Are there people who are born with inherent knowledge? If there is, how do they acquire them? Do they bring these knowledges with them from their previous lives?

One popular Superstar singer Teresa Teng passed away in Chiangmai, Thailand in the year 1995. In year 1999, Vanatsaya Viseskul, a girl with Chinese lineage was born in Thailand. Since she was a child, she had never learned Chinese. Though she could only speak Thai language, she could sing 20 Teresa Teng’s songs at a young age of 7. The songs she could sing are in Chinese, Minnan Dialect and Japanese. Hence people refer to her as Teresa Teng’s incarnation. Vanatsaya Viseskul said: “I cannot sing other Chinese songs. However, for Teresa Teng’s songs, I can sing them after listening to the songs 2-3 times.”

Let us listen to her, do you think there are similarities…..

I finally meet the Buddha! ?

I was chatting with a young internet friend a few days ago:

“Thank you, Master. I have finally meet the Buddha!”

“Oh? Did Buddha appear in front of you?” I asked curiously.

“Something like that. But it did not happen while I was meditating, neither did Buddha appear in the form of clouds. In fact, it happened in real life.

Since young, I have always visited temples with my grandmother who was a devout Buddhist. To the young boy that I was at that time, the tall Buddhist figures always seemed distant and imposing – untouchable up on the altars.

A few days ago, I was helping to place hot water bottles around my dad in bed when he reached out and caressed my head to show his appreciation. At that moment, I froze. It suddenly occurred to me how little I had done for him. Looking back, I realize now that the only thing I can do for my parents is by paying them occasional visits.

When I was growing up, whenever it became chilly, my parents would always place hot water bottles to keep me warm in bed. During the times that I was sick, I would wake up in the middle of the night to see them replacing the water in the bottles to ensure that I remain warm. They always did their best to get me what I wanted, no matter how far they had to travel.

I remember a time when my dad went out in heavy rain to search for a specific musical instrument that I needed for my music class the following day. He was thoroughly soaked when he came back.

My head was filled with images of all the things my parents had done for me…

As I looked at my dad’s face, I realized that the look of compassionate love on his face was as selfless as any Buddha or Bodhisattvas. It was the look of someone who is willing to sacrifice anything for me. In my mind, I felt as if I have been touched by the soft smiling gaze of Buddha, a gaze that is so identical to my dad’s.

I understood then why Master always told us that our parents are the Buddha and Bodhisattvas in our lives. They protect and care for us endlessly. How is their love any different from the Buddha’s or Bodhisattvas’? They are really the Buddha and Bodhisattvas in our lives!

Don’t you agree with me that I have finally met the Buddha in my life?”

I have mixed feelings after hearing this story. There will always be that few moments when we remember how good our parents have been to us, how they have nurtured us and brought us up. If you have yet to discover such a moment, take the time to return home often. That moment may just occur the next time that you are home.

My wish is for all children, young and old, to discover this moment and meet with the Buddha in their lives soon.

【Full version】The Gift Of A Bright Moon

In a small hut on the hill, there lived an accomplished old Zen master with many years of practice. One moonlit night, after a stroll in the woods, the Zen master returned to his little hut.

As he got to the door and pushed it, the old Zen master discovered a thief in his house.

The old Zen master was afraid that his sudden appearance might alarm the thief, so he stood outside the door waiting for the thief to go out. The thief did not find anything valuable in the house and had to leave reluctantly.

As the thief was leaving through the door, he sighted the old Zen master standing by the side smiling at him, and panicked instantly.

Seeing the frantic thief, the old Zen master spoke, “This mountain path is so remote, and since you have come so far to visit me, I can’t have you leave empty-handed! I don’t have anything valuable for you, but since it’s cold here at night, let me offer you this coat!” With that, the Zen master removed his coat and place it on the thief.

Draped in the Zen master’s coat, the thief slipped away in shame. Glancing at the departing thief, the old Zen master lamented, “Poor man! I wish I could give you a bright moon.”

Early next morning, when the old Zen master rose and opened his door, he was surprised to find the coat he had given the thief the night before neatly folded and placed on his doorway.

Seeing this sight, the old Zen master joyously exclaimed, “I had really given him a bright moon!”

The benevolence and compassion of the old Zen master had ‘awakened’ the thief’s innate goodness, causing him to repent and revert after regaining his life bearings.
In life, if we can also learn to be like the old Zen master – treat others with compassion and benevolence, and care sincerely – then it is likely that such good thoughts would enable many more people to embark on a illuminated path in life.

Forgiveness is like the mirror that reflects illumination!

Perhaps it is more difficult to ‘forgive’ someone than to love someone, as forgiving requires more courage.

Yet, ‘forgiveness’ not just relieves the other party’s suffering, it actually helps you to elevate spiritually.
Only through understanding how to forgive others, can we attain true happiness.
Then can everything become more perfect, more complete in our lives.

A Bright Full Moon_ Awaken the Buddha within!

According to Buddha: [All sentient beings possess Buddha nature] This applies to dogs, cats, jackals, tigers and even leopards.

On a bright full moon, an old Zen master awakened the innate goodness of a burglar using tolerance and compassion and this turned the burglar back from his wrong path. The old Zen master believed everyone possesses Buddha nature. He believed that even a burglar had an innate kind nature, it was just that his kindness was blinded by his desire and greed! By giving love and compassion to the burglar, the sleeping kindness in him can be awakened and he may become a Buddha.

This is viewing the world with a Buddha’s heart: Apparently, a Buddha lies in the hearts of all sentient beings!

When you refuse to give up on any sentient being and love the people in your life, your compassionate and kind thoughts will lead others towards an illuminated path and this may create thousands and millions of Buddha.

Set a higher expectation for yourself: [Be strict towards yourself and lenient towards others!]

Supposing you are the burglar and you receive compassion and tolerance from the old Zen master, how would you feel? What would you do?

May we use the compassionate and tolerant light of a bright full moon to illuminate every dark corner of the world.

May all be illuminated, auspicious, wise and happy!

Photographer found her own father when recording the life of homeless people.

A Korean American photographer in Hawaii, Diana Kim was abandoned by her own father at the age of 5. She had a hard time in her early life. Since college, she started to take photographs of the homeless and record their lives. 25 yeas had past. In 2012, by chance she took the photographs of her own father who had suffered from ill health and poor mental state. Her father rejected her several times for taking care of him. He kept wandering on the streets and refused medical treatment. One day, her father was hospitalized for a heart attack and Diana finally had the chance to take care of him. Her father gradually recovered with the help of medical treatment. His spirit returned to normal and his life was back on track under Diana’s care.

Diana said “Every day is a gift. Some days are more challenging than others, but seeing my father now is a constant reminder of the strength of the human spirit and how precious life is, I never had a relationship with my father growing up, and there was a lot he did and didn’t do that hurt me, but I have chosen to forgive him so we can move forward. It felt so good to see him so healthy, and standing so tall again. I feel grateful and cherish everything we have now. I hope those who have similar experiences can appreciate this joy as well.”

The following is Fanguai’s testimonial sharing.

Grandmaster JinBodhi said in one of the Dharma Events: “There is a reason for every thing that you have to do.” This sentence created a deep impression on me.

Looking back, the two years that I have spent as a volunteer have presented many challenges to me. I am a volunteer in the caring team. As a care group member, I need to have a lot of patience, love and compassion. In the early days, I did not have a good grasp of what compassion was.

During those days, whenever I was asked to perform certain tasks, I would feel a bit resentful, with thoughts like “Why do I have to be the one to do it, instead of others?” I would complete the tasks that I was assigned but, in my heart, I would be unwilling and resentful. My interactions with my fellow dharma practitioners suffered as a result of my poor attitude. Whenever friction arose between me and my fellow dharma practitioners, I had thoughts of dropping out.

From this particular dharma event, I came to understand causality. I understood the principle that “There must be a reason why you are asked to perform a certain task.” I felt that this was Master’s blessing for me. I also understood then that dharma practice requires us to overcome many tribulations and challenges. Since then, I no longer feel troubled in the course of volunteering.

Another instance of Master’s blessing that created a strong impression on me was Master’s “auspicious oracular words”.

I always had a wish that Master would bless me to be more diligent in my practice so that I can attain enlightenment in my current lifetime. My wish came true that day. Master read out my wish in class. For the rest of the class, I no longer felt drowsy. I could remember every word of Master’s dharma teachings. There was even a moment when I felt enlightened.

That very day, I went to visit my mother. As I saw her pushing her bicycle on the way out, I ran up to give her a big hug and said to her: “I love you, Mum!” Her smile lit up her face. I also gave her the bottle of water that had been blessed by Master. The look of happiness on her face moved me so much that I teared. I am very thankful to Master for giving me the strength and courage to express my love to my mother.

Grasp the fundamental point, all the rest will follow

When the body energy flows smoothly, the outcomes will naturally be different.
Meditation does not just improve our health. In fact, in the long run, it transforms our entire life!

A Bright Full Moon _ Part 2

I wish I could give you a bright full moon.”

Early next morning, when the old Zen master rose and opened his door, he was surprised to find the coat he had given the thief the night before neatly folded and placed on his doorway.

Seeing this sight, the old Zen master joyously exclaimed, “I had really given him a bright full moon!”

Moral of the story:
The benevolence and compassion of the old Zen master had ‘awakened’ the thief’s innate goodness, causing him to repent and revert after regaining his life bearings.

In life, if we can also learn to be like the old Zen master – treat others with compassion and benevolence, and care sincerely – then it is likely that such good thoughts would enable many more people to embark on a illuminated path in life.
