【八卦內功問答Q&A】什麼時候可以停止走八卦呢?

我的回答是:不一定。

修練貴在堅持,像這種修練方法,一天不要練太多的時間,但是最好不要停下來,如果能每天都練一會兒,功夫就能積累,身體才可能慢慢好起來,但不保證將來不會再犯病。

人體是個活的生物體,由無數個細胞組成。同時,我們每天都要吃不同的飯食,會不會得到感染?
.
此外,我們的喜怒哀樂等情緒波動,有時也可能引發一些不舒服、堵塞或是疾病,所以任何一種病能不能完全好,是不能保證的。這就是我之所以提醒大家別放下的原因,唯有一直堅持,身體才會更好一些。

有一次我在直播之中主講「八卦內功」,有人說:「師父,我走『八卦』之後,多年的花粉症好了!因為怕冷、怕風吹,過去一到冬天,人家穿兩件衣服,我要穿4件,夏天還得經常帶一件厚毛衣,現在好了,到春天遇到花粉,身體都沒有反應了。」我聽到後很開心。

他又問說:「是不是以後永遠沒有反應了?」我希望是這樣子,但更希望他每一天都要修,別放下。

形成疾病的原因太多了,吃飯、喝水、呼吸、情緒、工作,還有遺傳因素等等,都可能形成疾病。

其實每一個人的祖宗,累積起來幾百代、幾十萬年下來,我們每個人身上從聾、啞、癌症、心臟病,到身體殘疾等基因都有,所以我們得任何一種疾病的可能性都是有的。只是說在近3代到5代之中,如果某一種疾病的病症比較明顯,在後代身上表現出來的機率會較高。

疾病的來源這麼廣泛,很難抵制得了,只要多修一修,身體便能好起來,但是一旦放下不練了,身體可能還會變差,所以希望大家不要放下修練。

【Energy Bagua Q&A】 When can I stop practicing Energy Bagua?

Question: [After practicing Energy Bagua for half a year, my 10 years of backache disappeared- does this mean I have fully recovered?]

My reply: Maybe not.

The key to cultivation lies in perseverance. This cultivation method does not take up a lot of time each day. Therefore, it is best that you do not stop your practice. If you can practice every day, you will accumulate energy and skills over time and your body will start to show signs of improvement. However, that does not mean that your illness and discomfort is gone forever and will not relapse.

Our human body is a living organism made up of numerous living cells. As we need to consume different food every day, could we can get infected with diseases easily?

Besides, our emotional fluctuations may cause bodily discomfort, blockages or diseases. Hence, there is no guarantee that we have fully recovered and will not suffer a relapse. This is why I will advise everyone to continue with your practice. Through perseverance, our health will keep improving.

Once, when I was sharing about Energy Bagua during a live broadcast, someone said: “Master, after practicing Energy Bagua, I recovered from Hay fever, an illness which had afflicted me for many years! Because I was afraid of the cold, I used to have to wear 4 layers of clothes during winter when others only have to wear 2 layers. During summer, I even had to carry a thick sweater with me. Now, my body has improved. Even when I come into contact with pollen in spring, my body does not have any adverse reaction.” When I heard this, I felt very happy.

He continued to ask: “Does this mean that from now on, my body will not respond to pollen?” I hope this is the case, however, I hope he will continue with his practice.

An illness can be attributed to many reasons, for instance, through eating rice, drinking water, breathing, emotional changes and working environment. All these could potentially cause us to fall sick. In addition, some of our illness may be caused by genetic factors which we inherit from our ancestors. Therefore, do not joke and say things like: “He has a family history of liver cancer, I do not have.”

Actually, everyone’s ancestors go back a few hundred generations. Over tens of thousands of years, our body contains mute, deaf, cancer and heart attack genes. Hence, diseases can inflict us any time. It is just that if any of an illness afflicts our ancestors in the recent 3rd to 5th generations, the chances of us getting the same disease is much higher.

Since the sources of diseases are so diversified, it is very difficult for our body to defend against them. The only way for us to maintain our health is to spend some time each day to practice Energy Bagua. However, once we stop practicing, our health may deteriorate. Hence, I hope everybody will continue with your Energy Bagua practice.

修練「八卦內功」,最好的方法是一年四季都在戶外,所謂「夏練三暑、冬練三寒」,三九天、三伏天這兩個最嚴酷的季節都能夠堅持下來,才可能練出點功夫來,人也就會結實了。

這種感覺有點像古代人鍛造打仗用的兵器──劍,把鐵在爐火裡燒得紅紅的,紅到發亮之後拿出來,再用鐵錘打,它才會堅韌。之後燒紅一下,再猛地放進冷水裡頭,這叫「淬鋼」。忽熱忽冷,使得有些硬度還不夠的鐵,逐漸碳化、鋼化,它的刀口就會變得比較鋒利。好的刀甚至可以切棉花、切膠皮,它之所以如此鋒利,就是因為有這樣一個淬鍊的過程。

人體雖然不是鋼鐵,但大概的意思是一樣的,要經過自然界的極熱和極冷。如果在屋裡頭,夏天開冷氣,冬天開暖氣,溫度是平均的,那麼我們享受的將永遠是春天的溫度,沒有得到四季溫度的淬鍊。所以如果大家的身體可以承受,建議在戶外練。

【Energy Bagua Q&A】Practice 3 heats in summer and 3 colds in winter

?‍♀ Question: During the rainy season, can we practise Energy Bagua outdoors?

When practising Energy Bagua, it is most effective to do so outdoors all year round. As the saying goes, ‘Practice 3 heats in summer and 3 colds in winter’. Thus, if we can sustain our practice through the harshest of the days in summer and winter respectively, we would be able to master some skills in the process, and foster greater vitality.

An analogy is the forging of the weapon used in wars in ancient times – the sword. The sword is wrought from iron that had been subject to the furnace. As it turned blinding-white from the initial red-hot state, it is repeatedly hit with the hammer so that it will be toughened. Then, it is heated until red before plunging into cold water; a process called “quenching steel.” The successive hot-and-cold treatment is so that iron that is not hard enough initially, gradually become carbonized and tempered, enabling the blade to become sharper. A superior sword like this can even slice through cotton and rubber, its sharpness due to this process of ‘quenching’.

The human body may not be like steel, but the approach is similar – to sustain (our practice) through nature’s extreme heat and extreme cold. If we remain indoors, with air-conditioning in summer, and the heater in winter, the stable temperature means that we would always enjoy a temperature that of the spring. In this way, the training would not encompass the variations or ‘quenching’ of the four seasons.
Hence, where health permits, it is recommended that we practice outdoors.

Maintenance of practice through the hottest of the summers, and coldest of the winters thus helps to build strong physiques, provides great benefits to health, and is a superior practice approach. Such an approach offers the opportunity to enhance the practitioner’s constitution and skills. It is also a well-kept secret for health and wellness left behind by our forefathers.

Yet, in today’s increasingly urbanized societies, if one really do not have the convenience of practising Energy Bagua outdoors, you are welcome to join us at our respective Bodhi Meditation Centers or Energy Bagua centers.

我以前曾經放過一個水罐、一根棍子,當作樹來繞著走「八卦」。因為幫助我們的不僅僅是一棵樹,更重要的是這個方法。所以,如果條件不允許,偶爾中間圍著假樹或其他物品,都可以。

通常城市的生活中,哪怕比較寒冷的冬天,有些樹在屋裡也是可以養活的,可以買一棵盆栽的樹放在屋子裡,只是要注意這些樹上不要有尖刺。有同修問我:「我家有仙人掌長得挺大的,這是我家唯一的植物,我能不能放到中間走?」

我建議盡量少靠近它,因為一不小心碰它一下,弄得滿臉刺,或扎到眼睛,就不好了。一切都要以人的安全、健康和生命為主,即以人為本、安全為本。

Q7. Can a person who is not in good health and experiences hands and feet that are unusually hot, practice ‘Energy Bagua’?

I think it’s worth a try, as the rotational practice of alternating between clockwise and counterclockwise movements is a balanced approach. Thus, the replenished energy is not merely ‘yang’ or ‘hot’ energy, but a balanced and holistic blend of ‘qi’ or energy.

The feverish body condition that arises due to poor health can be alleviated through the practice of ‘Energy Bagua’, as the negative energy is transformed into positive energy, thereby improving the condition of hot hands and feet.
You are welcome to try this practice!

Q8. If we want to avoid the cold winter outside, can we put up an artificial tree in the house to practice ‘Energy Bagua’?

I have ever used a jug or a pole in place of the tree to practice ‘Energy Bagua’. It is not merely the tree, but the overall technique that is beneficial to us.
Therefore if conditions do not allow, we can occasionally replace the tree with artificial trees or other items to practice.

Some small trees can be cultivated indoors in our modern city living space, notwithstanding the chilly winter outside. So, one can purchase a potted tree to place in the house for use during practice. Just ensure that such trees do not have sharp thorns. A few fellow practitioners had asked me, “My family has a cactus plant that grows very big. As this is my family’s only plant, could I place it in the centre when practicing?”

I would suggest that we minimize close contact with the cactus, as we could get hurt by the thorns in the face, or even scratched our eyes.
In Energy Bagua practice, safety for all practitioners should come first. Our health and lives are foremost priorities.

其實,人類百分之八十的煩惱來自於情感。
而這些煩惱也源於人類複雜的智慧,如果智慧沒有一個選擇方向時,就容易精神錯亂。

那麼該如何面對和對治煩惱呢?
對於大多數人的精神煩惱,有一個特別好的方法:
「第一,知足,第二,感恩。」
.
當這樣的意念重複的時候,原本堅持的某些想法會漸漸變淡,當你不再堅持某些想法時,智慧自然就出來了,當問題解決了,煩惱自然也沒有了。

Recently a fellow practitioner asked me: “How can we resolve our problems?”
.
My reply: “Regardless of how accomplished a person is in his or her practice, there will always be problems.”
In fact, eighty percent of a human’s problems arise due to emotions. These problems also stem from the complex intelligence of mankind which, when bereft of a direction, will go into confused state thereby causing the person to become mentally disturbed.
.
So how do we face our troubles and resolve them? I have a very good way that can handle most people’s problems:
.
「First, be content. Second, be grateful. 」
When you keep repeating this thought to yourself, you will find that certain ideas and opinions which you held on very tightly previously will begin to fade. When you begin to let go of certain thoughts, wisdom will naturally arise; once problems get resolved using that wisdom, troubles will naturally disappear.

However, many marriages are also formed in baffling circumstances, and couples only start questioning their existence when they ponder over them later with clear minds.

Question :
I have questions with regards to what Master taught about relationships on Facebook some time back;
What is predestined affinity? Do you think any person you like should belong to you?
You mentioned,
“I think “fortuitous togetherness” is good enough, so long as the other party is of the opposite sex and of an acceptable age to you”
Master, I am confused and do not quite understand what “fortuitous togetherness” means.
Does it mean that if a person likes me or is nice to me, I should accept him/her as a potential partner?
Would that bring happiness to me?

Answer:
The phrase “fortuitous togetherness” (湊和) is a colloquial Northern Chinese expression. What I meant is one does not make high demands and expectations on the potential life partner or spouse. The higher the expectations, the more likely one will be disappointed.

So when I mentioned the concept of “fortuitous togetherness”, I meant one should set a reasonable expectation of the other person’s looks, income, occupation, height, family background, etc. Do not deliberate too much, just go along with the flow and be at ease.

When we meet a suitable person of the opposite sex at a suitable time and feel comfortable or even happy; thereafter understanding further his age, occupation, character, etc., which more or less meet our expectations, we may progress to the next stage of marriage to spend our life with that person.

After marriage, the concept of fortuitous togetherness may sound perfunctory or even irresponsible. But it actually means not to expect too much from the other person, not be too rigid that he/she feels suffocated. We need to relax and be at ease, and not be greedy and keep wanting more from the other person. In this way the relationship can progress naturally with ease. Fortuitous togetherness in Northern Chinese language also implies partnership and collaboration to achieve common goals.

Therefore, if we come together through fortuitous encounter, we work together to build the family by complementing each other. So even if we may not be perfect, we can still create a happy and perfect life together. Even though the child we produce may not be perfect in height, look and luck, or as pretty, but we will have true love and we can create a family which is more fortunate, spontaneous, more blissful, unpretentious, undemanding and realistic in expectations.

In fact, one reason why couple divorce is due to unrealistic expectations. For example, if the husband is in business, the wife hopes he will prosper. If the husband is still not wealthy after 10 years of marriage, the wife divorces and leaves him. Is this right?
Another example is when a lady hopes to marry someone who is in a high position. After 10 years of marriage and the partner is still not promoted, his wife leaves him.
Yet another example, a girl wishes to marry a tall and strong man, but after being married for 10 years, he is still not tall and strong, she leaves him.

Many couples with high expectations of each other end up being separated. What if they adopt the fortuitous togetherness attitude I mentioned?

To a lady, is it better to stay married than not?
To a man, is it better to be married than remain single?

With this attitude in mind, one would be more spontaneous and would love and cherish his family and manage the marriage with care.

So fortuitous togetherness is definitely not deceiving or perfunctory. It is a relaxed and blissful natural state. We can also call this a collaborative mental state. With fortuitous togetherness, the couple may live a hundred years together. With fortuitous togetherness, we can create the most natural, happiest and blessed families.
