【菩提養生素食教室】──數九寒天地,溫暖臘八粥。

佛教徒食臘八粥的由來,是來自牧羊女供養佛陀的故事。傳自中國後,民間也有一段有關臘八粥的故事。
.
明朝開國皇帝朱元璋,小時候家境貧寒,朱元璋就給地主家放牛維持生計。一年臘月,朱元璋牽著牛過一座獨木橋時,牛摔下了橋,腿折斷了。地主很生氣,把他關在後院,不給飯吃。朱元璋餓壞了,四處翻找食物,發現牆角有一個老鼠洞,扒開一看,有大米、花生、紅豆、大棗,好多食物——原來是老鼠的糧倉!他就把這些東西混在一起煮了一鍋粥,暖呼呼吃了個飽,覺得又香又甜、美味無比。後來朱元璋當了皇帝,想起這件事,就傳令御廚熬了這種雜糧粥,分發給群臣享用,這一天正是臘月初八,便賜名「臘八粥」。

按照民間習俗,臘八粥要先敬神、祭祖、分送窮人後,才能自己食用,一來感恩上天護佑、二來報答祖先蔭庇,還不忘周濟貧苦,為子孫積福。
.
臘八粥在製作時,會摻入許多五穀及堅果類養生食品。堅果性味偏熱,其他季節吃多了愛上火,唯有冬季則是「雪中送炭」。而且,堅果多數能補腎,按照中醫學說,冬季最適宜補腎,因此適量食用堅果,是冬季養生的竅門。另外,豆類食品富含蛋白質、胺基酸,有不錯的養生效果。到了年底大掃除的時候,把廚房裡剩餘的花生、核桃以及各種豆子,歸攏到一塊兒,煮成粥品,既暖胃暖心,又養生保健。所以,臘八粥真是這個時節應景、應季的營養美食。韓國安山禪堂的同修,做了一鍋熱騰騰的臘八粥,分享給大家,大家可以在家試做看看。

臘八時節,祝福大家豐衣足食,健康吉祥。

食材:糯米、黑米、花生、薏米、核桃仁、綠豆、紅豆、小米、紅棗、蓮子。

作法:
1.將食材倒入盆中洗淨。
2.再倒入鍋中煮40分鐘。
3.將完成的粥品盛盤後就完成了。

太神奇了!瀘沽湖「睡佛」!

世間無奇不有!瀘沽湖中王妃島的倒影與島形成了一尊睡佛像 !遠遠望去,睡佛神態端莊安詳,靜靜地側臥於湖光山色之中。這樣的景致需在陽光明媚,無風無波的天氣下才有機會拍到。
.
瀘沽湖位於中國四川和雲南的交界處,每當風和日麗時,就能看到一尊栩栩如生的大佛像靜靜地側臥在湖水中。這尊臥佛是由湖中的王妃島和倒印在湖中的影子所組成,惟妙惟肖,由半島的走勢及半島上石頭、涼亭和樹的天然紋路共同組成。

島山與湖水相映成趣,共同創造出這種「佛臥湖中」的奇景,真是巧奪天工,令人歎為觀止!這座大佛吸引了許多人前來朝聖。但這並不是每個人都能看到的,因為必須碰上晴天無風的天氣才能看得清楚,也就是需要跟祂「有緣」!

The world is simply filled with wonders! In China, an image of a Sleeping Buddha is formed by the combination of a section of Lake Lugu’s Wang-fei island (meaning Princess Island) and its own reflection! Viewed from afar, the Sleeping Buddha is regal and awe-inspiring, lying quietly in the midst of the serene beauty of the lake and mountains. This beautiful image can only be seen under specific weather conditions: The sun must be shining brightly, the winds must be silent and the water has to be still.

Lake Lugu is located at the border of Sichuan and Yunnan in China. Whenever the weather is good, visitors will be able to catch sight of a life-like image of Buddha lying peacefully on his side in the water. This image of the Sleeping Buddha is formed by a section of the Wang-fei island together with its reflection in the water. The tracks, rocks, trees and even the pavilion on the island form the lines that make up the image of the Sleeping Buddha.

It is truly unbelievable for the island and its reflection to form the amazing and awe-inspiring image of the “Buddha Sleeping on the lake”! The big Buddha has attracted many pilgrims to this area. Unfortunately though, not everyone is lucky enough to capture this view, as it is only visible when the weather is clear and the air is still. In other words, only those who have an affinity with the Sleeping Buddha will be fortunate enough to catch sight of him!

★.第三個原因,經常發火的人,可能是大腦部分被堵塞住了,所以很多事想不通,就靠發火來解決問題。

所以,容易發火的人特別適合來「禪修」,「禪修」之後,你的家庭就會幸福很多,如果你的家人經常和你吵架,你來「禪修」之後脾氣會變得好一些,你的家庭、事業、友情等就會越來越和諧、順利、幸福的。

是誰,一雙魔術的手?

前幾天,在溫哥華和英文同修們一起聊天,聊著聊著,一位高個子、很健壯的西人男士伸過頭來:「師父,請給我加持吧,幫我把所有的煩惱和壓力都去除!」
.
我說:「你是怎麼啦?為什麼這麼煩惱?」
.
他說:「我的工作帶給我太多的憤怒和鬱悶了!」
.
我說:「那乾脆把工作辭掉、不要幹了,這樣就可以永遠不用為工作上的事情而煩惱生氣,這樣多簡單!」(我是開他玩笑啦。)
.
他說:「因為我的工作是與救人、救火等相關的緊急事物,能夠幫助到很多人。常常工作時間很長、很累、有時還可能不被理解、甚至被斥責。我不能發火,於是就把火往心裡頭忍,長久忍下來,內心就越發憤怒、鬱悶、惱火了。我來學習禪修,就是希望能夠釋放這些負面情緒,讓自己清淨下來。
.
可是,當禪修的時候很清淨平和。但是一旦回到工作中,每日面臨著這些緊急,巨大壓力的工作、客戶的各種責難、不理解的時候,煩惱還是會不停地回來。您能不能加持我,讓我把內心這些怒火與煩惱通通一次去除?」
.
他望著我,大概希望我有一隻魔術手,能給他立即、永久地根除煩惱。
.
看他這樣難受,我告訴他:「禪修可以幫助我們消除煩惱,清淨身心,但是需要常修。加持也只是暫時讓我們忘掉一些煩惱,讓大腦清晰而已。
.
所以,更重要的是,我們要真正明白:
『其實我們的工作也是一種修行。』如何在高強度與壓力的工作狀態下,仍然保持一顆平和,慈悲的幫人之心,正是一個最大的修行課題。也才是根本的解決你煩惱的藥方。」
.
他聽了,睜大眼睛看著我:「工作也是在修行?」
.
我點點頭繼續說:
「說個網絡上的小趣聞,也許能幫助你理解!
曾經,有一個8歲的小朋友給911打電話,說她不喜歡上學,希望他們幫助她拆除學校,拆除的時候,還要確認老師們也一起被拆除掉。接到緊急電話的人也是哭笑不得,但他們並沒有因為小朋友無厘頭的要求而生氣,而是一直很耐心地寬慰引導她,告訴她老師們都是為她好,要努力地學習。」
.
他們工作的性質和你的其實差不多,都是在幫人解決問題,這本該是一個值得『高興和自豪』的工作啊!但如果你總是對工作中發生的不愉快,不順心的事情而介懷,把幫人當成一種『壓力和負擔』的時候,你就會失去幫人的快樂感。
.
當然你的工作,是救人救急的,要學習的是情緒分寸的掌握。就好像你的孩子正在玩火,很危險,你是要緊急制止的。所以,該急就要急,但不要讓這種急,成為我們內心的壓力和煩躁。如同大海一般,表面波濤洶湧,深海(內心)卻風平浪靜,深海的魚完全不受任何影響。
.
他聽了長出一口氣:「啊,我明白了!」
.
希望大家能夠用無限的「愛心」、「慈悲心」去面對工作,才能真正享受幫人的樂趣啊。

Who has a pair of magical hands?
.
A few days ago, I was chatting with some English-speaking fellow practitioners in Vancouver, when a tall and strong-looking Caucasian man suddenly stood in front and bowed his head to me: “Master! Please give me your blessings, and remove all my troubles and stress!”
.
I asked: “What happened to you? What is making you so troubled?”
.
He replied: “My job is making me angry and gloomy!”
.
I told him: “That is simple – just quit your job. Then you will never have to be troubled or angry over things that happen at work.” (I was joking with him.)
.
He said: “I get to help a lot of people in my job as I respond to crises – saving people’s lives and putting out fires. But the hours are long, the work is tiring, and sometimes I get misunderstood or even reprimanded by others. I cannot flare up at those people so I can only keep all the anger inside me. Over time, more and more anger and unhappiness accumulates in me. This is the reason that I come here to learn to meditate – I hope to be able to release these negative emotions and to achieve peace and tranquility.
.
But what I found was that I can be very peaceful and serene during meditation, but the moment I return to my workplace, the pressure at work, the reprimands of the clients and the lack of understanding from others all result in the troubles coming back with a vengeance. Master, can you give me your blessings and remove all the anger and troubles from my mind?”
.
He looked at me hopefully, probably hoping that I have a pair of magical hands that can help him exterminate his troubles immediately and permanently.
.
Seeing how unhappy he was, I told him: “Meditation can help remove our troubles and purify our mind, but you have to practice regularly. My blessing can only clear your mind and let you forget your troubles temporarily.
.
What is important is for us to fully understand that our work is also a form of practice. One of the biggest discussion topic in meditation practice is how do we keep a serene and compassionate heart, and remain always willing to help others, even in the face of immense pressure at work. The answer to that will also be the solution to your troubles.”
.
His eyes widened upon hearing that: “Work is also a form of practice?”
.
I nodded and continued: “Let me share an interesting story that I read on the internet. Perhaps that can help you understand! Emergency services 911 once received a call from an 8-year-old little girl. In the call, she said that she did not like going to school, and she hoped that they would help her tear down the school. She wanted them to remove her teachers at the same time. The person who answered the call did not know whether to laugh or to cry, but he did not get angry over the little girl’s unreasonable request. Instead, he consoled the little girl and explained patiently to her that the teachers have her best intentions at heart, and she should work hard in school.
.
The nature of his work is very similar to yours. Both of you are trying to help others to solve their problems. This is a job that you should be happy and proud of! But if you are always brooding over the unhappiness that crops up at work or the things that did not go well, and come to regard helping others as a burden and source of pressure, you will lose the sense of happiness that can be gained from helping others.
.
As your work requires you to save people and to respond to crises, it is very important for you to learn to manage your emotions well. For instance, if you find your own child playing with fire, you need to stop that immediately as it is very dangerous. Hence, you should react with urgency when the situation warrants it, but never let that sense of urgency give rise to stress and irritation in your heart. The analogy to that is the ocean – on the surface, the water is rough and the waves are strong, but in the depths of the ocean (like your mind), the water is calm, such that the fishes that reside in the deep ocean are not affected by the waves at the surface at all.”

After hearing what I said, he let out a loud exclamation: “Oh! I understand now!”
.
I hope that all of you can face your job with unlimited love and compassion. Only then can you truly experience the joy of helping others.

一腳踢倒虛妄

曾經,有一位百丈禪師,他要找尋一塊清靜地給更多人來修行,好不容易的看到「溈山」這個地方,覺得景色秀麗,是個非常適合修行的好地方,但是一間廟,還需要有個修養好的人來帶領。
.
百丈禪師座下有2位首席優秀弟子「華林」與「靈祐」!但百丈禪師認為,光憑他的一句話,尚且不能服眾,就說:「我出個題目,你們誰能說出一句直入印心的話,就能夠成為溈山的住持。」
.
百丈禪師指著座前的淨瓶說:「這個不得叫淨瓶,你們喚作什麼?」
.
華林說:「淨瓶非瓷也非泥。」
.
百丈禪師搖搖頭,顯然對這個回答並不滿意。
.
靈祐二話不說,走過來竟一腳踢倒了淨瓶。
.
大眾驚呼了一聲,百丈禪師卻笑著說:「住持就是你了(指靈祐)」。
.
故事說到這兒,請問大家:「華林為什麼輸呢?」
因為「淨瓶非瓷也非泥」還在文字、外貌、長相中打轉啊。而靈祐一腳踢倒了淨瓶,表示出他心無所執,唯有打破這個外相,就能夠重新捏塑成為嶄新的事物。
.
「淨瓶」不過是因緣所成,假名淨瓶,靈祐禪師以大氣魄把假相踢倒,正是成就新事物的開始啊。
.
「一切有為法,如夢幻泡影,如露亦如電,應作如是觀。—金剛經」

One kick removes false forms
.
Once, there was a meditator named Baizhang. He wanted to find a peaceful place for people to meditate and self-cultivate. After much effort, he finally found MountWei. With its beautiful scenery, Mount Wei was an ideal place for self-cultivation. However, Baizhang had another problem in hand- he needed a virtuous person to be the head of the monastery.
.
Meditator Baizhang had two outstanding disciples 「Hualin」 and 「Lingyou」! However, he felt that people would not be fully convinced if he decided on the abbot of the monastery himself without subjecting his two disciples to a fair test. Hence he told them: “I will come up with a question. Whoever is able to provide me with a satisfactory answer shall be the abbot of the new monastery.”
.
Meditator Baizhang pointed at the vase in front of him and asked: “What is this?”
.
Hualin replied: “The vase is neither porcelain nor clay.”
.
Meditator Baizhang shook his head. Apparently he was not satisfied with the answer.
.
Without a word, Lingyou walked towards the vase and gave it a kick. The vase shattered into pieces.
.
Everyone was caught by surprise and gasped in shock. However, Meditator Baizhang smilingly said to Lingyou: “You are the abbot of the new monastery.”
.
At this point in time, I would like to pause and ask: “Why did Hualin lose to Lingyou?” This was because the reply of Hualin that “vase is neither porcelain nor clay is still restricted to words, forms and appearances while Lingyou’s bold kick showed he was not attached to anything. Only by destroying the physical form of the vase can we start to mould something new.
.
By chance, the 「vase」 takes on its physical form as a vase. When meditator Lingyou kicks and breaks the physical form of the vase with boldness, it marks the commencement of something new.
.
「Everything in existence is like a dream, an illusion, like a tiny drop of dew or a flash of lightning.
This is how we should contemplate our conditioned existence. —The Diamond Sutra」

大寒時節吃「三冬」
.
大寒,在每年西曆1月20日左右,是全年的最後一個節氣,也意味著由冷轉暖的開始。由於天氣寒冷,心腦血管病患的發病率增加,感冒的機率也大大增加,因此專家推薦大寒時節吃「三冬」:冬瓜、冬棗、冬甘蔗。

冬瓜能消熱、利水,有助於降低血糖、血脂、膽固醇,預防動脈粥樣硬化。冬棗維生素C含量極高,每100克果肉維生素C含量高達380~600毫克,是蘋果的70倍、柑橘的16倍,加之冬棗中含有19種人體必需的氨基酸,因此能提高人體免疫力、預防感冒。中醫認為,甘蔗有清熱、補肺益胃等功效,此外甘蔗中含有豐富的鐵、磷、鈣、錳、鋅等微量元素,尤其鐵含量特別多,補血效果顯著。需要注意的是,「三冬」性偏寒涼,一次不可吃太多,適度為好。
