#業力、#念佛、#觀世音菩薩成道日法會直播rnrn【 Guanyin Bodhisattva: Inspirational Story】 The Inconceivable Benefits of Chanting

Chanting can bring inconceivable benefits, do you know that?
Let me share two stories with you :

There was a disciple who was of good character and also very kind. His father had passed away for more than three years. Since then, he had continued his chanting practice. Yet he experienced bodily aches in several places, including blockage at the heart and difficulty in breathing, causing him much torment!

As I recall, he chanted most fervently at one of the Medicine Buddha events. His thoughts were: He had chanted for over three years but why hadn’t his father been liberated? He cried as he chanted and even after the event, instead of leaving, he continued to chant.

Later, our practitioners asked me to take a look. I did so and saw him crying in despair. Coincidentally, the Buddha and Bodhisattvas allowed me to witness the sight of his father climbing out from his place of suffering and over the wall to a white and illuminating realm.

The gods had come to fetch the father, who then turned into a ray of white light and left with them. I described the appearance of his father. He said “Yes”, that’s his father! Suddenly, the disciple burst into tears and said, “Master, I feel unobstructed and comfortable! I’ve never been this blissful and happy, after having been miserable for years”.

There is another story:
Three years after her father passed away, she had repeated dreams about her father being punished in hell. Demons would use fire to burn his whole body, causing ruptures and bleeding. They continued until he was charred before throwing him into water. She came to asked me, “Master, can you tell me what is this dream of my father about?”

After listening to her, I said, “The issue with this ‘fire’ is due to past karma committed by your father; and the issue with the ‘water’ is due to water flooding his grave now.”

This disciple called her brother to check on the father’s tomb and found the tomb had collapsed and sunk. A gaping hole at the coffin’s corner had let water flood the tomb. Her father was really soaked in the water. They hurriedly called someone to repair the tomb.

A few days later, she dreamt her father was not soaked in water anymore, but the demons were still burning her father. She asked again, “Master, what can be done?”

I offered her this piece of advice, “..Recite and chant to Avalokitesvara for your father everyday..” She knelt and chanted for three days to Avalokitesvara for her father, three hours each day.

Three days later, she happily ran to me and said, “Master, I dreamt of my father again. The demons was still burning him. Then from the sky, water suddenly fell like crystalline beads of a waterfall pouring onto my father’s body. The wounds on his body automatically healed. I also saw my father’s face, and he had reverted to his healthy and happy 40-year-old appearance. I also saw the Bodhisattva waving her hand, and with it, my father drifted up and was fetched by a boy. Thereafter, I no longer dreamed about my father suffering in hell.”

Having listened to these two stories, why do you think different people need different time spans to achieve the results? One chanted for 3 years and 8 months while the other for three days in order to liberate their fathers from hell? This relates to the issue of negative karma that I had mentioned before; some karma are light, some are heavy. Karma is not visible to the naked eye, yet it exists and influences your spiritual, health, life, work, marriage, and family aspects. It is not the least bit absent or lacking.

If you take quantitative as a metaphor to measure merits from chanting against negative karma, it’s like the see-saw principle: the amount of karma has to be matched by similar amount of chanting to achieve a balance. Often, practitioners would compare why another’s disease has recovered, whereas it’s not the case for oneself – is it that Buddha takes better care of him/ her?

We have come to learn, to study the underlying essence on the nature of things. Once we understand the concept, we would not be misled by the appearance our eyes see. Having understood the truth, we also need to learn to accept, face up to it, and break free to transcend.

If we continue to drive a car that is faulty, it will eventually stop and not move. We may be stuck in a location where help is nowhere near.

Similarly, when we reach a certain age, we need to spend time on regular body check-ups to maintain our health. Do not wait till you are feeling very uncomfortable before you start to seek medical help. Do not say,” No! I need to make money to support my family!” You have to figure out which is more important – your health or making money.

There are many diseases for which we do not know the underlying causes. The healing process can be expensive and time consuming. Through meditation, however, our body can be recharged. If the illness is due to energy imbalance, meditation can help to rebalance the energy and enable us to regain our health.

So how can we improve our physical and mental health through meditation? Let us discuss this during this Saturday’s “Benefits of Meditation” session. Everyone is welcome to leave your message here for discussion. May all enjoy health, happiness and auspiciousness!

Beauty Secrets – Q & A

Q : How does meditation enhance beauty?
(Actual case: There was a class participant who was more than 60 years old. On the last day of her course, her daughter came to fetch her for dinner. At the entrance of the center, the daughter expressed in surprise upon seeing her mother, “Is that really you, mother? Why have you become so youthful, and beautiful?”
The elated mother replied, “ It’s me – your mother! I’m aware that I’ve “become” younger.”)

A :
In meditation, it is foremost that we learn to relax. When our body, brain, inner organs, and muscles are relaxed, the energy and blood circulations will be smooth. The meridians and blood vessels that were previously constricted would be restored naturally. With robust circulatory systems, our appearance – becomes beautiful; our brain – develops wisdom; our heart – gains a robust life-force. At the same time, with good physical circulations, we naturally experience health, happiness and beauty.

Thus, meditation can bring calm as well as benefits to our body, mind and spirit.

The most important reason for the beauty benefits of meditation lies in the development of compassion. As one practices, one gains compassion, and do not easily become angry and frustrated. With a gentler personality and stable temperament, one’s words and deeds naturally manifest kindness and serenity emanating from within – an innate sense of confidence and gracefulness – qualities that are beyond the benefits from cosmetic surgery.

Thus, meditation can enhance appearance, offering beauty.
Dear friends, if you wish to become beautiful, please come and learn meditation.

The beauty benefits of meditation are legendary. If you’d like to be beautiful, we welcome you to come and realize your dream.

#20170518、 #FB直播、 #不聽不知道rnrnThe heavenly law manifest justice; there is no way of escape.

Today is the 1st day of the lunar 7th month, an auspicious and friendly day.
Let me share with you a thought-provoking story!
It is a real life story from a Bodhi practitioner in New York.
—————————————————————

I live in New York—my name is Xiulan (a pseudonym). My family was very poor when we were growing up. My parents made a living from rearing pigs. Once, a female black pig gave birth to a litter of piglets. One of them looked very different from its other siblings. Its hair was all white except for some curly black hair at the belly area which seemed like the piglet was wearing a black belt around it’s belly. Subsequently, all the piglets were sold except for this white piglet. Xiulan’s family tried selling it multiple times but was unsuccessful. There was a rumor going around: “Never seen such a pig before, it symbolizes inauspiciousness!” As a result, no one dared to buy this white piglet.

Xiulan had two younger brothers and she was the eldest child. Her mother was then pregnant with her third younger brother who was due for birth soon. After the birth of Xiulan’s third younger brother, the mother thought of slaughtering the white pig for consumption since they were not able to sell it off and she was in her confinement and needed nourishment.

On that particular day, Xiulan’s mother sought the help of Xiulan’s uncle to slaughter the white pig to make stewed soup. As Xiulan’s uncle was preparing to slaughter the pig in the courtyard, her mother heard the pig wailing and screaming from the room where she was resting. She handed her baby, Xiulan’s younger brother, to Xiulan and proceed to help Xiulan’s uncle with the slaughtering of the pig. While Xiulan carried her new-born brother in her arms, she heard the wailing scream of the pig as it was being slaughtered and was so afraid that she hid in the room holding her brother tightly. Subsequently, there was only silence. When Xiulan recovered from the agony, she discovered that her baby brother was no longer moving and breathing in her arms!!

When her mother returned to take the baby from Xiulan, she was distraught to discover that her new-born had stopped breathing. Apparently, her baby died in his sister’s arms when the pig was being killed. This is such a tragic outcome…

As the saying goes, misfortune does not come in singles and blessings never come in doubles; hence, this is not the end yet……

When Xiulan’s second younger brother was seventeen years old, he was an extremely intelligent, considerate, filial and good-looking son. Every night, he would prepare water for his parents to soak and wash their feet, prepare dinner and helped with house chores. He was an all rounder in all areas. Hence, though Xiulan’s family was not very well off, her parents tried to save money to send her brother for studies in Japan, hoping he could have a bright future.

Xiulan’s family finally managed to save enough money to send her brother overseas for study. All the administrative work for university enrollment had been done and the entire family was just looking forward for her brother to leave for Japan in September. As he was leaving in a month’s time, it would be his last summer holiday spent with his parents at home. Being a very sensible boy, he went to help his uncle harvests watermelons in his plantation. However, her brother never return from the plantation alive.

Do you know what happened? Xiulan’s brother was electrocuted in the watermelon plantation. When her mother heard about the dire news, she lost her mind on the spot.

From then on, Xiulan’s mother could no longer take care of herself in her daily life. She behaved like a lunatic and would run to the Guanyin temple in their village regularly to chant the mantra of Guanyin Bodhisattva to repent on her past sins.

Therefore, this is the scary truth of the law of cause and effect. I hope that as you learn and practice Buddha dharma with me, it can help accelerate and increase your energy and wisdom, so you will not be lost in the cycle of karma (cause and effect). May you grow in wisdom and health, and enjoy joy and happiness!

Insights from visit to Myanmar countryside
After seeing the living conditions of the Myanmar countryman, I felt a sense of inexplicable sadness – children cannot even afford to attend school, visit the doctor for medical help, own a television, have their own beds and so on…
Many of them find it challenging meeting the basic needs in life. They can only place their hopes in the next life: wishing to be reborn to a rich family, having as much money as they desire, with car, love and whatever they wish for…

Famen Temple – The Buddha’s Finger Bone Relic

The Famen Temple is located in Shaanxi Province, China. It was founded during the Eastern Han Dynasty, and was formerly known as the King Ashoka Temple. With a more than 1,700-year history, the temple is venerated with its Buddha’s Finger Bone Relic.

When Sakyamuni Buddha ascended into parinirvana, he gifted 84,000 pieces of relics. In a bid to spread Buddhist teachings globally, India’s King Ashoka distributed the Buddha’s relics to different parts of the world, amid the constructions of pagodas as means of worship. One of the Buddha’s relics – the Finger Bone Relic – was gifted to the Famen Temple.

During the Tang Dynasty, with the reverence and faith in Buddhism by the monarchy, Emperor Gaozu personally renamed the Ashoka Temple as “Famen Temple.” During that period, there would be a ceremony held in honor of the relic every 30 years. Subsequently, the pagoda where the relic was consecrated became known as the “Protector of the Country’s Relic” pagoda.

As it progressed to the Xi Zong’s era, Emperor Tang Xizong safe-kept the relic together with a collection of thousands of rare treasures under the pagoda, which were then sealed at the entrances. A massive earthquake occurred during the Ming dynasty however, and buried the temple grounds. It was not until 1987 that the temple was re-discovered, and the Buddha’s finger bone relic, amongst countless treasures saw light finally, much to the awe of the world.

The underground palace at Famen Temple is currently the oldest, largest, and most revered of Buddhist stupa palaces with innumerable treasures, and no lack of legendary tales. Yet, the miracle of Fa Men Temple’s hidden treasures lies in Sakyamuni Buddha’s Finger Bone Relic that has to date prevailed for at least 2,500 years. The fact that the Finger Bone Relic is recognized as one of few remaining authentic relics of the Sakyamuni Buddha makes it invaluable! It further affirms the faith that Sakyamuni Buddha is genuinely omnipresent, validates the eternal compassion of the Dharma, and blesses the universe with the most auspicious energy.
