Harness the energy, you will be omnipotent

In the novel “Romance of Three Kingdoms”, the best General is not Zhang Fei but Zhu Ge Liang.

Why is that so? We are all well aware that Zhu is not armed with a formidable weapon. Instead, he holds only a large feathered fan. How is he able to achieve such greatness?

Zhu is a master of the world’s knowledge, ranging from astrology to geography. He understands that all the world’s subjects are filled with energy. If you can harness this energy, you can manipulate even the sky and the earth to be your warriors.

If we possess vast knowledge and we can apply it appropriately, that is what I call wisdom, an immense source of energy.

With this energy, you can feed and fulfill yourself and your family. Expand this energy further and you will be able to help the people around you, and even the whole world.

This limitless energy will be a reflection of your limitless wisdom.

Notice on Online Global Group Practice (Saturday, April 22, 2017)
The Virtuous, the Wise and the Capable
A few years ago, a disciple who was a restaurant owner, confided in me, “Master, it is so difficult to recruit chefs!” He was willing to pay a high salary, yet he had difficulties recruiting chefs. Knowing his meticulous personality, I asked him, “Are you being too picky?”

He shared with me his story…

One day, a chef who specialized in Sichuan cuisine, came for the job interview. My disciple asked the chef to prepare a simple dish of steamed Chinese cabbage with bean curd. The Sichuan chef, upon hearing my disciple’s request, immediately replied,“No, I do not know how to cook that. I only prepare Sichuan dishes.”

On another occasion, a chef who specialized in Beijing cuisine came and applied for the same position. My disciple asked the chef to prepare some handmade noodles. The chef answered,“Noodles are the specialty of pastry chefs and I only know how to prepare Beijing cuisine.” (Editor’s note: Pastry chef is a culinary terminology used in Mainland China to describe chef that specializes in handmade noodles, baked pancakes and dim-sum)

My disciple told him, “Not to worry, I am willing to pay you and it is easy to learn.” The chef responded, “I don’t know.” My disciple offered to teach him but the chef simply refused and insisted that he did not know how to do it.

An insightful person will understand the reasons behind.
Are you a virtuous, wise or capable person? If you want to be successful, who must you be?

We will explore the different attributes of the Virtuous, the Wise and the Capable during this Saturday’s group practice and how we can make use of these unique traits to create a meaningful and fulfilling life. I invite you to join me in this discussion and may you be blessed with wisdom, fortune and happiness!

Grain Rain
— The snow stops after the arrival of Ching Ming (Qingming); the frost stops after the arrival of the Grain Rain.

“Grain Rain” is the last solar term in spring and usually happens around April 20th, when the sun is at 30 degrees longitude. This year, Grain Rain falls exactly on April 20th. In the past, people believed that rainwater comes from heavens and possesses special energy that stimulates growth. There was an old saying, “The rain gives life to hundred types of grain”. That was how the term “Grain Rain” came about.

This is the best time for planting seeds and transplanting seedlings. Seedlings require lots of water for nourishment. It was believed that the reason why the first bout of heavy rainfall usually occurs around this period was because the heavens want to help the seedlings grow.

As the saying goes, “The snow stops after the arrival of Ching Ming; The frost stops after the arrival of the Grain Rain.” After the Grain Rain, temperatures normally start to rise and the weather starts to turn warm. Taking walks or practicing Energy Bagua are both good outdoor activities to undertake during this period. The breeze will blow our troubles and fatigue away; The rain will cleanse the dust off our bodies and minds; Our lives will be purified by nature.

#養生、#金銀花rnrnFood for healthy living in spring season- Honeysuckle or jinyinhua (金银花)

In spring, it is common that momentary warmth is followed by a return to the cold weather. As the weather changes frequently, it is easy for one to contract respiratory diseases due to infection. Honeysuckle tea brewed with honey helps to relieve diseases due to infection of the respiratory tract, which is common during the spring season, as well as tonsillitis, influenza and other diseases. It helps to “cool the blood” and stops dysentery. It also has a diuretic effect (increasing urine production) and nourishes the liver.

Honeysuckle is a Caprifoliaceae family of dicotyledonous flowering plants (some call it snowberry). The flower of this family of plants is a “cold food” by nature, according to Chinese Medicine tradition. It has a slightly bitter taste and a light fragrance. Honeysuckle is a precious Chinese medicine. The honeysuckle tea has a bright bluish-green color with a rich fragrance. It also has a sweet taste and refreshes the lungs when consumed, with benefits of alleviation of “internal heat” and detoxification. It also has an antibacterial and anti- inflammatory function, and helps to invigorate the circulation of blood and stimulate menstrual flows.

However, one needs to take precautions so that honeysuckle tea is suitable for use at initial stage of the respective symptoms, in order to reap the intended benefits. In addition, honeysuckle tea is “cold” by nature according to Chinese Medicine tradition. This means that those who have weak spleens and stomachs and those who are having their menstruation periods should refrain from taking this tea. Finally, as with all food and beverages, the tea should only be consumed in appropriate amount and not excessively.

The following is the recipe for brewing “honeysuckle tea with honey”:

Ingredients :
Honeysuckle (sun-dried) 5 grams
Honey 5 grams
Water (boiled) 500 ml

Method :
1. Pour the honeysuckle into the teapot;
2. Add boiled water at 90-100 degC;
3. Close the lid and boil for 10 to 15 minutes;
4. Add honey gradually and stir the tea to achieve evenness;
5. The tea is now light-golden in color;
6. Pour out the tea, which is ready for serving.

How did she break out of her loneliness?

Ai Chang lives in Malaysia. She was only 21 years old then but at such a youthful and blossoming age, she withdrew and isolated herself from others, due to severe skin allergy. She did not have friends and she did not communicate with her relatives; not even interacting with her younger sister who lives under the same roof.

Yet she was fortunate. After attending an 8.5-day Health & Happiness retreat at Bodhi Meditation, she was confident enough to share her feelings on stage. She embraces her relatives and friends again and was beaming happily!

#SkinAllergy, #Pimples, #Autism, #FeelingInferior, #BodhiMeditationAndHealthClass”
.
.
From the Video:
Ai Chang is the dharma name of Chen Yun-Wen, an ordinary girl from Kepong, Kuala-Lumpur in Malaysia. She used to wear a broad smile in the past, but due to her skin condition, she withdrew and isolated herself from the once glittering world.

(Ai Chang): Because of my skin allergy, I lost my confidence and retreated into solitude! I shunned talking to people especially strangers, for fear of being disliked! I felt unclean and tried to distant myself from others, the further, the better.
Whenever she recalled the strange look of others upon her, she would feel deep sadness. She became embarrassed by her facial skin disease….

(Ai Chang): My facial skin disease deteriorated after I graduated from Form 5 (High School). During the college orientation, I would collect my lunch and ate alone while other students would stare at me, ignored me or walked away. I knew I would be unable to make new friends, and knew they disliked me from their expressions. But this was only the beginning of the college years, and an important period of one’s life. I usually wear long pants and long sleeved blouse in school. When the allergy was severe, I would even wear a face mask and a hat. When queried by the teachers, I would lie that I was sick. After school, my classmates would normally had lunch together, but I would head for home directly.

She was easily upset by what her classmates and relatives said about her, even if they were merely expressing their concern for her, or were just joking.

(AiChang): We are quite close to one of my aunts. Whenever I visited her home, she would quip about my grumpy look. Actually I was not angry with anyone or in bad mood, that was just me, typically wearing an unhappy and disappointed expression…

(Aunty): Before Ai Chang participated in the Bodhi Meditation retreat, whenever she came to my place, she would sit on the sofa and fell sleep, or she would just play with her cell phone. She would not interact with anybody.

(Sister): I thought my elder sister prefers to do her own things and does not like to communicate with others! So, although we share the same room, we have our own separate bed and desk in there and she would do her own stuff and I attended to mine! We do not interact very much.

(AiChang): My uncle would advise me to take more fruits and vegetables. But he usually does this during meals, in the presence of relatives.

Because of her skin condition, Ai Chang’s mother introduced her to the 8.5-day Health & Happiness retreat, and hoped it would help resolve her problem.

(Ai Chang): I knew nothing about the retreat initially and my mother accompanied me. After half a day of class, I could not take it anymore, and told my mother I wanted to quit!

(Mother): When I registered Ai Chang for the course, I told her to accompany her father. At the same time, I told her father to attend for the sake of his daughter. This way, I got both of them to attend. She was reluctant on the first day and kept complaining that she was forced to attend the retreat and wondered what place this is.

The PJ meditation centre was huge and filled with people, particularly housewives and Ai Ching felt awkward.

(Mother): Surprisingly, she attended class on the second day. On the evening of the third day, she told me, ” Mum! I will definitely complete the remaining 8 days classes with you!”.

The sudden change in Ai Chang’s attitude surprised her mother. She was further surprised beyond expectation; for someone who is so reluctant to attend the retreat, Ai Chang volunteered to share her testimonial on stage on the last day of the course!

(Aunty): Initially she refused to participate and just laid down, being very stubborn! She said the course contents were extremely boring! Along the way, I could not recall exactly when and why, but I realized she has started to practice GI (Greater Illumination) along with us. I signaled to her mother! Great! When we started to chant, she joined us. She stopped lying down, and would practice diligently till the end of the 8-day retreat!

(Mother) On the last day, she raised her hand suddenly and wanted to go on stage to share her testimonial. Some teammates asked if I had prepared a script for her. I had not and I was not even expecting her to share! Her sharing was excellent and I was so surprised! As I recall the scene now, I am fighting back my tears!

(Aunty): Ai Chang walked to the front and told the whole class what truly changed her was the 8.5-day Health & Happiness retreat. She thanked her parents, and invited me on stage even though I had scolded her just a few days earlier. We were very touched when she invited me up the stage and hugged everyone of us. At that moment, we were really impressed by her transformation! An excellent change!

(Sister): Around the third or fourth day of the class, we noticed her face turning slightly reddish, but without the itch. Her pale face gradually vanished! Throughout the retreat, she has gradually learn to relax and would even smile to me!

(Ai Chang): I discovered during the 8.5 days class that my parents loved me too! I realized that I rebelled against my parents and they had no choice but became more stern. Their intention was to help me cultivate good behavior! Sometimes, to correct my attitude for my own good, they had to confront me directly despite my resistance.
During the 8.5 days, the improvement for Ai Chang is not just physical but extended to her relationship with her family and friends!

(Ai Chang): Kudos to Bodhi meditation and Grandmaster JinBodhi’s teachings!!! I improved my relationship with my family, particularly my sister. I also made new friends and more importantly, regained my confidence. With confidence, everything is not a problem to me anymore!

The 8.5-day Retreat allowed Ai Chang to regain her confidence. Because of Bodhi Meditation and Master, she found good health and happiness!

The secret to building great relationships

A wealthy man wanted to increase his wealth and went to a Zen master for help. With his eyes closed, the Zen master contemplated and said, “Sure, but please donate part of your wealth to some charitable organizations first.” Upon hearing this, the man mumbled something and left hurriedly without promising anything.

Not only did the man’s investments fail eventually, he also got into a lot of trouble and went bankrupt. The Zen master told his disciples: “His fortune at that time was like a bag that was already filled to the brim. If only he was content! He wanted to increase his wealth further, yet he is not willing to remove some of what was already in the bag. When you force things into a bag that is already full, the bag will break eventually.”

Dharma practice is all encompassing. The secret to building great relationships and riches lies in 5 words: Generous giving to abundance. (Give up to gain more. )
In the short span of life that we have, spend the limited time that we have in doing good deeds – compassionate deeds and deeds that help other people. In helping others, we help ourselves. This sacrificial spirit is the key to success.
