如何「念佛」可以幫助自己也利於子孫?(2017年9月2日)

問:「祖先應該要保祐後代子孫,家宅興旺、順利平安?但為何有些人年年祭拜祖先,卻還是家運不好,進而生病.破財.家庭失和呢...?」

我說個故事給大家參考,也許會對許多人有幫助。

有一天,一位母親帶她的孩子來見我。
母親說:「我的孩子生下來,全身都是一條一條像刀劃過的斑紋,我帶孩子看遍了所有中、西醫,都沒有辦法處理,也找不出原因?孩子還經常做惡夢,夢到自己全身鮮血淋漓、甚至更夢到自己全身就剩一堆白骨。求師父救救我的孩子吧!」我瞭解了一下才明白,原來女士的父親、爺爺祖輩們全都是廚師,祖傳最擅長的菜餚,就是烹活魚,在活魚身上劃出一道一道口子來烹飪,這就好像她孩子身上的痕跡。

我告訴這位母親說:「妳去佛前用真誠的心,為自己的父母、祖先懺悔、念佛,並且需要勤力去作一些善行,好比說「放生、供燈、發心建道場」吧,不然我也沒別的法子了。」她聽完回去做了這一系列事情的一個月後,她兒子身上的斑痕明顯地淡了一半。所以,做功德、懺悔的作用力太大了!因為我們的祖先、父母過去所做過的一切錯事都會遺傳下來,使子孫後代不安,造成種種的疾病和人生障礙。

「真心誦念一句佛號,勝過萬兩黃金。」我們通過為父母祖先念佛、供燈,祈請佛菩薩加持。當我們的祖宗能安寧、祥和、自在了,我們才會平安、吉祥、自在。

Chanting for parents and ancestors benefits descendants (September 2, 2017) Question: “Ancestors should bless the descendants with prosperity and peace. However, why are some people constantly suffering from bad luck, disease, financial woes and breakups? Let me share a story that may be of some help to many people. One day, a mother brought her child to see me. The mother said, “Since birth, my son’s whole body has knife-like stripes. I took him to see both Western doctors and Chinese physicians but to no avail as none could identify the cause of his problem. He constantly had nightmares of blood dripping from his body and body turning into a pile of bones. Master, please help save my son!” After further probing, I found out that the mother’s father and forefathers were all chefs. Their expertise was cooking live fishes. The cuts that they made on the fishes resembled those marks on his son’s body. I told the mother, “Go before the Buddha, chant and repent sincerely for your parents and ancestors. Not only that, you have to diligently carry out good deeds such as releasing captive animals, offering lights before the Buddha and contributing to the construction of dharma cultivation halls. Otherwise, I have no other way.” She followed my advice and did a series of good deeds. A month later, the marks on her son’s body cleared out almost half. Thus, the force of merits accumulation and sincere repentance is great! Past misdeeds of ancestors and parents would be passed on to the descendants in the form of uneasiness, illness, obstacles and hindrances in lives. There is a saying – Sincere chanting of Buddha’s name is worth more than a ton of gold. Through light offering and sincere chanting for our parents and ancestors, we seek blessings from the Buddha and bodhisattvas. Only when our ancestors attain freedom and peace will we be safe, auspicious and peaceful. So how do we “chant and repent” to eliminate karmic debts and obstacles transmitted to us by our ancestors? 如何補充能量、改善健康?(2017年8月26日)

有很多疾病,我們永遠也不知道患病的原因,想治好它,通常需要付出很多的時間。關鍵是,需要弄清楚身體健康和賺錢哪個更重要?
.
就像我們開車一樣,當發現車有兩三處壞了,許多人都抱持著「就湊合著開吧!」的心態,不去理會與修理,直到車子半路拋錨,沒有人來救援你的時候,才發現失去代步的雙腿,哪兒也走不了了,才懊悔自己當初沒有趁小問題時好好照顧車子。
.
同樣,我們要時常檢查自己,當發現小問題的時候就該去處理。
尤其是人到了一定年齡後,我們的身體更需要花時間去檢查、修理,不要等到所有零件都壞得差不多,想要去處理時,卻發現已藥石罔救。
.
而「禪修」,能讓我們的身體能量得到即時補充;又因為疾病的起因,很多是因為能量不平衡所引起的,通過「禪修」,可以使能量達到平衡,讓我們很快就能恢復往日的健康。

If we continue to drive a car that is faulty, it will eventually stop and not move. We may be stuck in a location where help is nowhere near.

Similarly, when we reach a certain age, we need to spend time on regular body check-ups to maintain our health. Do not wait till you are feeling very uncomfortable before you start to seek medical help. Do not say,” No! I need to make money to support my family!” You have to figure out which is more important – your health or making money.

There are many diseases for which we do not know the underlying causes. The healing process can be expensive and time consuming. Through meditation, however, our body can be recharged. If the illness is due to energy imbalance, meditation can help to rebalance the energy and enable us to regain our health.

【週六共修預告】如何改善人際關係(2017年8月19日)

生氣、痛苦、煩惱等負面情緒,對人身心的傷害有多大?
.
我曾經見過兩位女士在吵架,年齡大概都是五十多歲左右,其中一個女士吵架嘴特別快、特別狠。兩個人吵著利害,另一位女士當場氣到直挺挺地昏倒了!還住院了七八天。有時候對高手來說,光憑一張嘴就能當場把對方給氣死。所以,經過這個案例,我發現很多疾病是因為精神上的痛苦和壓力而導致的。

修習禪修之後,會讓我們的生命能量不斷增加,心理承受力會大大增強;同時,在禪修的過程中,因為心中常保持一份慈悲善念,就不容易產生情緒不穩而罵人,如此,減少了傷害他人、傷害自己的機會,對我們的身心靈健康將會有最直接的幫助。

每個人都活在這個群居的社會上,免不了需要和他人打交道。

Online Global Group Practice on Saturday: How do we improve our interpersonal relationships? (August 19, 2017)

Anger, agony, troubling thoughts and negative emotions- How do these affect our physical health and mind?

I once came across two women in their mid-fifties quarreling. One of them was very fast and harsh in her response and words. In the midst of their heated arguments, one of them suddenly fainted and was hospitalized for 7 days!

There are cases where a person can literally die from anger because of another person’s words. Hence, through this case, I realized a lot of physical illnesses come about because of mental stress and unhappiness.

Through meditation practice, our life energy and tolerance level will increase. Since meditators tend to harbor kind and compassionate thoughts, they will not lose control of their emotions easily and start to scold others. This reduces the probability of inflicting hurt onto themselves or others, which in turn helps to maintain a healthy body and mind.

We are all part of one big social network. Everyone has to interact and deal with people in their daily lives.

Improving interpersonal relationships and better life management are vital skills which we all need to acquire!!

對待叛逆期的孩子,我們身為家長該如何去引導呢?以我的經驗以及調查,孩子綜合表現比較好的家長,通常是順著孩子來,有機會就讓孩子嘗試。

比如,當孩子一口把檸檬塞到嘴裡頭時,有一種家長會說:「別吃!」直接制止孩子吃檸檬;另一種家長則會說:「你嚐一嚐吧?」只要沒危險,都讓孩子試一試,讓孩子從學習裡得到經驗。

How do you handle your rebellious teenage children? (5 Aug, 2017)

Parents with teenage children worry and suffer from headaches. They feel that their children undergo a dramatic transformation, no longer obey their parents and become more temperamental as they enter a rebellious stage. Many teenagers think they know best and do things their way. However, a lot of times what they do are inappropriate and parents find it hard to control them and this becomes a delicate problem for parents to handle.

How do parents handle and guide rebellious teenagers?
From my experience and finding, children with better behavior tend to have more accommodating parents who let them try new things when opportunity arises.

Say a child places a piece of lemon in his mouth. Some parents will immediately say, “Don’t eat it!” and immediately prevent the child for doing that. Another group of parents will instead say, “You can chew and try the taste!”. As long as there is no danger, let your child try so that he can learn for his own experiences.

Educating a child is like cooking. When there is a need to exert control, parents have to intervene. However, to what degree should parents intervene so that there is a balance? 如何開闊自己的心胸、減少不必要的煩惱?

在一個中國皇帝的故事裡:漢武帝的媽媽是一個心胸殘忍、又很狹小的一個女人,好不容易熬到她兒子當政、當皇帝之後,和自己的弟弟兩個一起合作,拿了很多農地圈在皇帝的名下。雖她貴為皇太后,但一聽底下的官員占了多少農地,就怕搶輸了人,也跟著占農地去了、還為她兒子占塊地,真是可笑之極。

皇帝說:「天下都是我的,我要那一塊兒小小農地有何用途啊?」
.
他媽媽說:「天下都是你的,好像你抓不住、也摸不著。只有咱列在自己名下這一塊,才感覺像是我自己的。」

心不夠開闊,是因為心不夠慈悲。心胸博大了,才能對很多原來計較的小事不再在意,不會受制於很多煩惱,才能成就大事業。

Compassion allows us to connect with the infinite energy of the universe (July 29, 2017)

How can we become more magnanimous and tolerant towards others so as to reduce unnecessary troubling thoughts?

A story about a Han Dynasty Chinese emperor: The Emperor of the Han, Han Wu-Ti’s mother was a cruel and narrow-minded woman. When her son finally ascended the throne and gained control of the country, she and her brother conspired to seize land from her son’s subjects on her son’s behalf and placed the land all under his name.

Though she was the Empress Dowager of the Han dynasty, she was petty-minded and fought with others to gain ownership of more land. Her actions were truly laughable!

The emperor told his mother: “The entire empire belongs to me, why do I want to bother myself with a small plot of land?”

His mother replied: “Though the empire belongs to you, it is not tangible. You are not able to touch it. We will feel secure only when the land is listed under our name since that proves our legal ownership.”

The emperor said: “Ridiculous! I run and control the country, what do you mean I cannot touch it? I can give you whatever you desire. What is the use of clinging on to a small plot of land?” However, the dowager empress remained unconvinced despite her son’s words. Why is that so? She is too narrow-minded!

A person’s heart is narrow because he is not compassionate enough. Only when he becomes magnanimous and broad-hearted, will he not get bogged down by daily trifling matters and is able to focus on the important things in life to achieve great accomplishments.

How do we apply compassion to improve our lives? Let us discuss in greater depth this coming Saturday “The Power of Compassion”! We welcome all to share your thoughts here.

獲得幸福生活的靈丹妙藥!!(2017年7月22日)

想要擁有幸福甜蜜的婚姻,應該如何做?
我先說個故事給大家思考一下……
.
有一對小夫妻一起來找我。太太說:「我要跟他離婚。」我問:「離婚怎麼跑我這兒來了?你們結婚證書也不是我發的。」這時,先生說:「她真要離,我也沒有辦法。到您這來問問您怎麼看?」其實,他們想離,但是心裡還是有點戀戀不捨,想找我給評評理。
.
太太說:「他經常不洗澡、不刷牙,特別髒。我一天刷四五遍牙呢。」
.
我說:「你每天閒著不工作,光刷牙?」
.
先生說:「其實我也不想離,我也想包容她。有一次她做好了飯,問我好不好吃。我說還可以,但是下次能不能放鹽進去啊(原來菜裡沒放鹽)。第二天我下班回家,太太就煮了一碗麵自己在那吃。我問:『我的飯呢?』她說:『你不是嫌我做得不好吃嗎?』 太太從此不給我做飯吃,這一僵持就是一個月,之後矛盾就更加激化起來了。」

我是覺得,第一、這個女弟子太挑剔了;第二、她太在乎自己了。請問:這樣的夫妻,能成為一對好夫妻嗎?做不成的,因為太在乎自己了,太我執了。遇上這樣的老婆或丈夫,生活一定是痛苦的。
.
其實是很小的事情,卻激化出很多問題和矛盾。兩個人每天吵啊、打啊,最後鬧離婚。
.
因此,想要擁有幸福甜蜜的婚姻,人與人之間是否應該多幾分寬容?
.

The elixir to a happily life!! (July 22, 2017)

How do we sustain a blissful and happy marriage?
Let me share with you a story to initiate some thoughts.

A young couple came to see me. The wife said: “I want to divorce him.” I asked: “What has it got to do with me? Your marriage certificate is not issued by me.” Hearing this, the husband said: ”If she really wanted a divorce, there is nothing I can do. So we came to seek your advice.” Although both of them wanted a divorce, deep in their hearts, they still have strong feelings for one another. They wanted me to evaluate who is right and who is wrong.

The wife complained: “He does not bother to bathe and brush his teeth regularly. He is so dirty. I brush my teeth four to five times a day.”

I retorted: “You have so much free time? Otherwise, how could you brush your teeth so often?”

The husband continued: “ Actually I do not want a divorce, I tried to accommodate her. Once, she cooked a meal and sought my comments. I merely told her the food was not too bad, and suggested that she add a little salt into the dish next time (apparently, she forgot to add salt). When I reached home after work next day, my wife was eating a bowl of noodles she had cooked for herself. When I asked her: “Where is my share?” She replied: “I thought you complained on my cooking?” Since that fateful day, she stopped cooking for me entirely. This cold war lasted for a month and subsequently the conflicts worsened.”

Personally, I felt this female disciple was too picky; secondly, she loved herself too much. What do you think? Can this couple get along well and enjoy a blissful marriage? Not likely since they cared too much about themselves and are too self-centered. With such spouse, life is bound to be torturous and full of suffering.

In reality, what started as a very small matter got blown out of proportion, which created problems and conflicts. They argued and quarreled daily and now they are contemplating a divorce.

If we want to enjoy a sweet and happy marriage, shouldn’t we show greater consideration towards our spouse and learn to be more tolerant?

I welcome you to join me this Saturday to discuss how can we transform daily squabbles at home into a symphony orchestra so that we enjoy a happier life! Feel free to share your personal experiences so that we can all learn from each other and progress together.

(2017年7月15日)
傳說慈悲能使人無所不能?
還能給人帶來一切財富?
.
曾經在中國,有個小夥子想發財,跟嶗山的一個老師父學習穿牆過壁。師父為了磨他的心,先讓他幹三年苦活。
.
三年期滿,小夥子實在忍不住了:「師父,我就沖這一招來的,您就教給我吧。」
師父說:「好吧,那我就教給你。」

師父臨走前再三叮囑小夥子:「不能用這個功夫做壞事,否則功夫會失靈。」小夥子答應了。
結果他回家之後想,熬了三年,我好不容易學到這功夫,不想發財才是呆子呢,到大戶人家偷錢去吧!

結果,因為有了偷盜的行為,穿牆過壁的法術就失靈,出不來了,小夥子叫人給抓個正著,不僅沒發財,還吃了幾年牢飯。

所以,真正的財富雖然也包含錢財,但是,僅僅留下錢財就等於留下了禍害。
.
想想,我們將來留給子女,後代最大的福分究竟是什麼?

According to legend, compassion makes one omnipotence?
And may even brings forth wealth?

There was a young man in China who wanted to become rich, hence he learnt from a Master on Mount Lao the skill of going through walls. The Master instructed him to do 3 years of laborious work as part of his training.

After 3 years, the young man could not endure further and thus asked his Master: “Master, I came here just for this skill of going through walls, please teach me.” His master agreed.
Before he left, his Master repeatedly remind the young man: ” Do not use the skill to do bad deeds, otherwise the skill will be lost.” The young man agreed.
After he reached home, he thought to himself, I went through 3 years of hardship in order to learn the skill. I will be an idiot if I do not use this skill to acquire some wealth. I shall break into a rich man’s house and steal from him!”

Since he applied his skill to perform bad deeds, he lost his skill and was trapped inside the house. As a result, he was caught in the act. Not only did he not get rich, he was jailed.

Therefore, real wealth encompasses money, however if we only go after money, that will ultimately lead to our own downfall.

傳說慈悲能使人無所不能?
還能給人帶來一切財富?

曾經在中國,有個小夥子想發財,跟嶗山的一個老師父學習穿牆過壁。師父為了磨他的心,先讓他幹三年苦活。
.
三年期滿,小夥子實在忍不住了:「師父,我就沖這一招來的,您就教給我吧。」
師父說:「好吧,那我就教給你。」

師父臨走前再三叮囑小夥子:「不能用這個功夫做壞事,否則功夫會失靈。」小夥子答應了。
結果他回家之後想,熬了三年,我好不容易學到這功夫,不想發財才是呆子呢,到大戶人家偷錢去吧!

結果,因為有了偷盜的行為,穿牆過壁的法術就失靈,出不來了,小夥子叫人給抓個正著,不僅沒發財,還吃了幾年牢飯。

所以,真正的財富雖然也包含錢財,但是,僅僅留下錢財就等於留下了禍害。
.
想想,我們將來留給子女,後代最大的福分究竟是什麼?

According to legend, compassion makes one omnipotence?
And may even brings forth wealth?

There was a young man in China who wanted to become rich, hence he learnt from a Master on Mount Lao the skill of going through walls. The Master instructed him to do 3 years of laborious work as part of his training.

After 3 years, the young man could not endure further and thus asked his Master: “Master, I came here just for this skill of going through walls, please teach me.” His master agreed.
Before he left, his Master repeatedly remind the young man: ” Do not use the skill to do bad deeds, otherwise the skill will be lost.” The young man agreed.
After he reached home, he thought to himself, I went through 3 years of hardship in order to learn the skill. I will be an idiot if I do not use this skill to acquire some wealth. I shall break into a rich man’s house and steal from him!”

Since he applied his skill to perform bad deeds, he lost his skill and was trapped inside the house. As a result, he was caught in the act. Not only did he not get rich, he was jailed.

Therefore, real wealth encompasses money, however if we only go after money, that will ultimately lead to our own downfall.

So what do you think is the greatest wealth to leave your children?

你想讓你的感情、工作、事業更順利?
或你有解決不了的事情正煩惱,不知所措?

再過幾天,就是觀世音菩薩成道的吉祥日子,在這一天,這個磁場也是非常強大的。舉凡佛菩薩誕辰、成道,都是大吉祥的日子。如果我們能夠在這一天去供奉、誦念,或者是發願、禮敬菩薩的話,我們會得到很多意想不到的好處。

比如有的母親擔心孩子不聽話,將來不學好,求觀世音菩薩:「我把我的孩子交給您了,請您幫我看管,讓他走光明的路,不要入邪道、黑道。希望您的智慧、您的慈悲能成為孩子精神世界中一盞巨大的明燈,一直指引著他,別讓他糊塗;在關鍵的時候,別讓他走錯了道。」菩薩就會去幫助他。

因此,如果你有一個願望,無論是你自己的願望,還是親人的願望,都可以借這個吉祥的日子,這個大好時光,在菩薩面前真心誦念,為自己、為父母、或為親人去誦念。

Embrace in the warmth of Bodhisattva (July 8, 2017)
Do you want your child to become more intelligent and get enrolled in a top school?
Do you hope to enjoy good interpersonal relationship with people and have a smooth career path?
Or is there something that is currently troubling you?

The good news is Guanyin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day is just a few days away. On this auspicious day, and other Buddha or Bodhisattva’s Birthday or Enlightenment day, the energy field is extremely strong. We will gain unexpected rewards if we sincerely chant, pray and make offerings to them.
For instance, some mothers are worried about their children and seek blessings from Guanyin Bodhisattva: “I leave my child in your good hands. May you guide him with your compassionate light and wisdom so that he will never go astray and possess the wisdom to choose the right path at critical moments.”
If you and your loved ones hope to have your wishes fulfilled, do make use of this good opportunity to chant sincerely before Guanyin Bodhisattva. Chant for yourself, your parents and you love ones.

《New release》 Understanding how Meditation leads to good health (July 1, 2017)

Is it easy to stay healthy?
Some would say: “One’s mood and emotion is dependent on the general well-being of one’s health.”
Others feel: “The hereditary genetics from our ancestors play a vital role in determining the state of our health!”

There are many reasons why people fall sick.
The key to a healthy physical and mental body is to strike a proper “balance”.

If we were to compare our body to a car, the analogy is similar. New cars are less prone to problems. Cars which have been in use for a long time tend to break down easily and require constant maintenance. At times, we need to replace their faulty spare parts in order to keep them functioning.

How about our bodies which have been working non-stop for the last 40 years from the day we were born. Have we maintained ourselves properly? Some of us only visit the doctor when we are extremely sick only to discover our internal organs have suffered irreparable damages.

How then do we maintain a state of “balance” in our mind and body?

I welcome everyone to join me this coming Saturday in my discussion on the key to maintaining good health. You may gain some tips and inspiration to a better health. May all be blessed with longevity, good health and happiness!!
