The center’s smooth operation is due to the concerted efforts of everyone; your generous dedication and contributions to cater for a larger and warmer home for people living in this area, to provide a more comfortable place to practice, help more people who are suffering from illnesses, and provide a sense of hope, a ray of light.

“Auspicious opening, blessed with Buddha’s illumination; help those in peril, and benefit sentient beings; (may) Bodhi practitioners accumulate merits universally; practice the Bodhi path, and gain complete enlightenment.”

吃肉=吃毒? . 我的學員中有從事「畜牧…

吃肉=吃毒?

我的學員中有從事「畜牧業」的,他們說有些飼養者會在飼料中添加很多合成的配方,或者是不符合自然規律的添加物,這些成分對動物造成了很大的傷害,人們長期食用也會危害身體健康。下面我提出幾個看法給大家參考看看。。 。
.
第一、2015年10月26日,世界衛生組織正式發布消息,將加工肉列為「一級致癌物」,而紅肉也是2A級致癌物,並指有研究發現進食加工肉和紅肉與大腸癌、胰臟癌及前列腺癌等疾病有關連。
.
第二、在一九六一年「美國醫藥學會」會刊就曾報導:「素食至少可以預防百分之九十到九十七的心臟病。」
.
第三、除了人類健康之外,少吃肉還能减少一半温室氣體排放。
牛津大學統計了英國5萬多人的飲食資料,並計算出相應的飲食碳足跡,結果發現:如果每天吃超過100克肉的肉食主義者改做素食,他們飲食碳足跡將減少60%,相當於每年減少1.5噸二氧化碳排放。即便不選擇完全素食,碳排放也將減少三分之一,相當於每年減少近1噸的二氧化碳。(以上請參考下方原始連結)

綜合以上提出的問題告訴我們:
「多吃蔬菜、水果、穀物的草食型飲食習慣者」,健康情況比肉食型飲食習慣者好得太多。
.
所以,「少吃肉」,既健康又環保,「健康蔬食」,不僅能拯救你的健康,還可以拯救地球。

Consuming meat product = taking poison?

I have students who are engaged in “animal husbandry”. They said that some breeders will add a lot of synthetic formula in the feed, some do not meet the additives regulations. These ingredients caused harm not only to animals, but humans as well. The long term effects to our health after consuming them is detrimental. Here I put forward a few opinions for everyone to ponder.

1. In October 26, 2015, the World Health Organization officially released news that processed meat is listed as a “first-class carcinogens”, and red meat is grade 2A carcinogens. The study found that having large intestine cancer, pancreatic cancer, prostate cancer and other diseases are related to eating processed and red meat.

2. In the 1961 issue of the American Medical Association’s journal, it was reported that “vegetarianism can prevent at least ninety to ninety-seven percent of heart diseases.”

3. Not only does vegetarianism improve our health, it can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by half.
Statistics done by Oxford University on dietary habits of more than 50,000 people in Britain and their corresponding carbon footprint showed that: If a person who eats more than 100 grams of meat daily were to convert to vegetarianism, their dietary carbon footprint will be reduced by 60%, resulting in an annual reduction of 1.5 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Even if you do not choose to be a complete vegetarian, carbon emission will be reduced by one third, equivalent to an annual reduction of nearly 1 ton of carbon dioxide. We can conclude from the above that:

The benefits of a vegetarian diet of mainly vegetables, fruits, cereals, far outweighs a meat diet.
Therefore, not only is being a vegetarian healthier, it is also environmentally friendly because we are helping to save both ourselves and our planet Earth.

Those with strong energy field tend to be leaders and attract success in all aspects of life.

For ladies, such energy will manifest through their natural grace and elegance.
To be a lady of grace and elegance is the wish of every woman and also the dream of every man for his future wife. If a man marries a virtuous and elegant wife, his family will thrive and prosper. How can we nurture grace and elegance? Is it possible to change for those who are already married?

不再讓情緒綁架你的生活

我的家鄉有一位老先生,是一位修行很好的人,他是捉神弄鬼的傳統門派,挺厲害的。
.
有一天,一個太太牙痛去找他,我正好到他家去,太太說:「我吃了兩顆止痛藥都沒用,你這麼厲害,能不能幫幫我?」

老先生卻問:「你這兩天是不是生氣了?」
太太說:「是啊,三天前我生氣了。」
.
因為老先生有天眼通,能夠看到牙痛的真正原因。原來這個太太大發雷霆,把先生給趕跑了,因為生氣,整個火氣都跑到嘴巴裡,又痛又腫的。
.
老先生看出端倪後,要她盡情地宣洩一下心中的怒氣,於是她就講自己有多好,但是先生卻不愛她、不管她、不顧她之類的事情。嘮叨完了之後,老先生說:「好了,現在你到河邊去泡泡腳,唱兩首歌。」
.
太太說:「這……這樣就能好了嗎?」
老先生說:「是啊!你照做就是了,你必須在那兒泡一段時間,唱幾首歌後才可以回家。」這位太太照做了,牙痛也真的就好了。
.
之後我也問了這個太太,她說:「這方法真的很有用。」
你們想想,這究竟是什麼道理呢?
.
其實,老先生是用最道地、傳統的方法,第一個是發洩情緒,再加上河水;水為陰、為涼,他用水來撲滅火,腳上如果冰涼的話,是最容易退火的。
.
我們都知道荔枝、龍眼這些水果很容易上火,我到廣東時,當地人告訴我,最好的方法就是一邊把腳泡在小河裡,一邊吃荔枝。我真的試過,也真的有效。情緒的好壞會導致很多問題。
.
事實上,很多致命的疾病,譬如癌症、腦血管破裂、中風、心臟病等等,都和情緒有關,一生氣一激動,血壓就上升,疾病也跟著浮現了。
.
我們回憶一下《紅樓夢》中的林黛玉是怎麼死的?她是抑鬱而死的,也就是內在經絡全部都封閉了,她能不死嗎?
.
所以,如果內在不健康,外在也健康不起來。

Don’t let your emotions destroy your life

There was a well-mannered and knowledgeable old man in my village, known to solve problems with ingenious methods.

One day when I was in his house, an old lady came to see him with a toothache. The old lady said: “I took two painkiller pills but my tooth is still aching. Since you’re so capable, can you help me?”

Old man asked: “Have you been having bad temper lately?”
Old lady replied: “Yes, I’ve been angry in the last three days.”

As the old man had the gifted ability to see the actual cause of the ache, he knew that the old lady had a row with her husband and chased her husband out of the house. She was so angry that her temper had caused her the toothache, which no pain-killer could cure.

As the old man knew the actual cause of the toothache, he first tried to relieve the old lady’s pain by letting her vent her frustration about how her husband had stopped loving her even though she was such a good wife. When the old lady finally finished, the old man told her to soak her legs in the river and also sing two songs.

“Is that all it takes to cure me?” the old lady asked with much curiosity.
“Yes, that is all. I want you to take your time soaking your legs in the river, and sing a few songs before you head home.” the old man advised with confidence.

The old lady did what the old man told her to do and soon she was relieved of her toothache.

When I chanced to meet the old lady, she told me: “The old man’s method was effective!”

So how did it work?

Actually, the old man merely used the most authentic, traditional way of first allowing one to vent his emotions and then, using water to ameliorate unwanted internal heat. If your legs are soaked in water and hence become cooler, it can ward off or counter-balance the internal heat in the body.

The fruits Lychees and Longan are popular in Guangzhou but are known to cause internal heat in the body. When I went to Guangzhou, the locals shared that we can still enjoy the fruits if we have our legs soaked in water to counter the internal heat when consuming them. I tried and it was really effective. Emotions, either positive or negative, can have negative consequences on our health.

In fact, many deadly diseases such as cancer, hemorrhage, heart attack and stroke are closely linked to emotions. Once we get angry, our blood pressure increases, triggering the beginning of many illnesses.

This was how Lin DaiYu, the famous character in Chinese classics “Dream of the Red Chamber” died, owing to her emotions – depression. All her internal meridian are closed, how can she live?

Hence, we should learn to manage our emotions, and not let bad temper destroy our health and life.

我的家鄉有一位老先生,是一位修行很好的人,他是捉神弄鬼的傳統門派,挺厲害的。

有一天,一個太太牙痛去找他,我正好到他家去,太太說:「我吃了兩顆止痛藥都沒用,你這麼厲害,能不能幫幫我?」

老先生卻問:「你這兩天是不是生氣了?」
太太說:「是啊,三天前我生氣了。」
.
因為老先生有天眼通,能夠看到牙痛的真正原因。原來這個太太大發雷霆,把先生給趕跑了,因為生氣,整個火氣都跑到嘴巴裡,又痛又腫的。
.
老先生看出端倪後,要她盡情地宣洩一下心中的怒氣,於是她就講自己有多好,但是先生卻不愛她、不管她、不顧她之類的事情。嘮叨完了之後,老先生說:「好了,現在你到河邊去泡泡腳,唱兩首歌。」
.
太太說:「這……這樣就能好了嗎?」
老先生說:「是啊!你照做就是了,你必須在那兒泡一段時間,唱幾首歌後才可以回家。」這位太太照做了,牙痛也真的就好了。
.
之後我也問了這個太太,她說:「這方法真的很有用。」
你們想想,這究竟是什麼道理呢?
.
其實,老先生是用最道地、傳統的方法,第一個是發洩情緒,再加上河水;水為陰、為涼,他用水來撲滅火,腳上如果冰涼的話,是最容易退火的。
.
我們都知道荔枝、龍眼這些水果很容易上火,我到廣東時,當地人告訴我,最好的方法就是一邊把腳泡在小河裡,一邊吃荔枝。我真的試過,也真的有效。情緒的好壞會導致很多問題。
.
事實上,很多致命的疾病,譬如癌症、腦血管破裂、中風、心臟病等等,都和情緒有關,一生氣一激動,血壓就上升,疾病也跟著浮現了。
.
我們回憶一下《紅樓夢》中的林黛玉是怎麼死的?她是抑鬱而死的,也就是內在經絡全部都封閉了,她能不死嗎?
.
所以,如果內在不健康,外在也健康不起來。

Don’t let your emotions destroy your life

There was a well-mannered and knowledgeable old man in my village, known to solve problems with ingenious methods.

One day when I was in his house, an old lady came to see him with a toothache. The old lady said: “I took two painkiller pills but my tooth is still aching. Since you’re so capable, can you help me?”

Old man asked: “Have you been having bad temper lately?”
Old lady replied: “Yes, I’ve been angry in the last three days.”

As the old man had the gifted ability to see the actual cause of the ache, he knew that the old lady had a row with her husband and chased her husband out of the house. She was so angry that her temper had caused her the toothache, which no pain-killer could cure.

As the old man knew the actual cause of the toothache, he first tried to relieve the old lady’s pain by letting her vent her frustration about how her husband had stopped loving her even though she was such a good wife. When the old lady finally finished, the old man told her to soak her legs in the river and also sing two songs.

“Is that all it takes to cure me?” the old lady asked with much curiosity.

Often, we may find it difficult to face our family members, friends and even colleagues at work to the extent that we begin to dislike ourselves and feel helpless to get on with life.
Through meditation, such inter-personal issues will slowly diminish. As you become wiser and more awakened, you will realize that your circle of friends grow wider.

隨著社會壓力的不斷增加,伴隨現代生活節奏的不斷加快,越來越多的人處於亞健康的狀態。而人體活力不足的潛在原因之一,是由於身體「能量」不足所導致。

有一種修行健身的方法,是我從小就在研究的—-「八卦內功」。

Stay Healthy through Regular Energy Bagua Practice

As the pressure of the society increases and the pace of modern life accelerated, many people these days are in a state of sub-health. A reason for this is the lack of energy in the body.
I have learnt a practice method while I was young and that is “Energy Bagua”. Energy Bagua harmonizes Nature and man. It allows the body to return to its natural state, improve immunity and enhance vitality. It is an effective way to improve health.
This practice also positively benefits the heart, brain, blood vessels and kidneys. When the heart and kidneys are healthy, the liver, spleen and stomach will be healthy too. Many older practitioners with weak legs actually find that their leg’s strength improve with the practice. Those with pot-belly will find this method useful too.
If a woman of child-bearing age has hands colder than usual, she may find it hard to conceive. However with regular Energy Bagua practice, her chance of conceiving may increase due to better peripheral circulations, thus warming up her hands and feet.
Remember this: a half hour daily session of Energy Bagua will greatly enhance the health of those who suffer from high blood pressure, fatty liver, stressed-related illnesses and cold hands and feet.

能勞動是件幸福的事

能勞動、能工作是件幸福的事,但一些人並不喜歡多付出、多做事。在公司裡,覺得工作是為了老闆而做的,只要老闆不盯著,就會開始混水摸魚。這種觀念並不正確,工作是因為生活需要,無論什麼樣的工作,老闆花錢雇用你,換個角度說,都算是你的衣食父母,讓你的老婆孩子生活無憂。雖然工作很辛苦,但是如果沒人雇用你的話,一家的生計就有問題了。

我在美國有個弟子,是個年輕小夥子,他說老闆什麼雜事都叫他做,連家裡的芝麻小事都要找他,他問我:「我要不要辭職呢?」我說:「再等一下,如果我沒有要你辭職,你千萬別亂來。」不到兩個月,老闆因為產品賣得太差而裁員了三分之一,卻把他留了下來。而且現在他還成為部門經理,薪資漲了一倍,每天都很快樂,而且每天都提早半小時上班,先打掃公司環境。他做這些事的目的,並不是希望老闆幫他加薪,而是完全出於自覺,想多做點事,而且是為了自己而做,做得也快樂。

有能力服務別人,是件值得高興的事,代表你是一個有價值的人。尤其如果能抱持著開心的態度來工作,不僅工作時特別有效率,幸福感也會油然而生。

其實熱愛勞動的人,就是熱愛生活的人,無論對工作還是家庭,多承擔、多付出、多勞動,這樣,不僅可以找到快樂,生活也會越來越精彩。

Being Able to Work is a Blessed Thing

Having the ability to work is a very fortunate thing, but some people do not like to contribute or do more than others. They think that they are working for the benefit of their bosses. The moment the boss is not watching over them, they would begin to slack off and take advantage of the company. Such an attitude is wrong. We are working for our own benefit, to meet our own needs in life. Regardless of what kind of job it is, as long as your boss is paying you to do it, he is paying for the bread and butter in your life and he is the reason why your wife and children are able to lead carefree lives. The work might be hard, but if nobody is willing to employ you, you will have trouble making ends meet.

A young disciple of mine in United States once told me that his boss made him do all sorts of trivial tasks, including running personal errands for him. He asked me whether he should resign. I told him: “Wait for a while more. If I don’t tell you to resign, do not do anything rash.” Fewer than two months later, the company had to retrench one-third of the staff due to poor product sales. However, not only was this disciple of mine retained in the company, he was promoted to the position of a departmental manager and his salary was doubled. He became very happy at work, and even turned up half an hour early to clean the office. He did all this not because he hoped to get a pay raise from it. It was all done on his own initiative, out of a desire to do more, for his own sake. He has found happiness.

Having the ability to be of service to other people is something to be happy about as it means that you are a person with value. If you can maintain a happy attitude at work, not only will you be especially efficient, you will also feel immensely happy and fortunate.

A person who loves to work is someone who appreciates life. Someone who is willing to shoulder more responsibilities, to give and to work more will find happiness and lead a more fulfilling life.

來自溫哥華的李小妹:
過去我與父親之間有些不愉快,心中對父親有過埋怨。身體也因為常常積累情緒而變得不好,有些內出血的症狀。
一次的機會,我來報名禪修課程,聽到了師父說:「對父母知恩不圖報會有惡業伴隨你的。」我很震驚,才驚覺到自己這些日子對父母的態度,從小我的父母親非常疼愛我,他們千辛萬苦把我養育成人,並將我培養成一個醫學博士,而我不但沒感恩父母,還對父親心懷成見,常與父親頂撞。現在想想,簡直就是一個小人。

後來又聽到師父說:「我就是來幫人的,要幫小人變成大人,幫大人變成聖人。」我想師父沒有放棄我,我要改正,要好好修行。
一回到家,我就給遠隔重洋的父親打了個問候的電話,父親非常欣慰,感動得熱淚盈眶,我的淚水也止不住的流,父女倆多年的心結終於解開了。

心結解開了,心情也隨之改變了,每天出門,我看到的天空是份外的藍,份外的潔淨與清新,花兒是如此的美艷,小鳥的叫聲也是格外的悅耳動聽。

最重要的是,通過「念佛」和修練「大光明」,我的大出血好了。原來身上被包裹著的一層硬殼,也一層層地剝落了,渾身輕鬆柔軟了。
感動、感恩,與輕鬆,這樣的狀態是我從未有過的體驗,我也要學習將這份喜悅繼續傳下去,引領更多正受著身心疾病折磨的人,也與我一樣變得快樂又健康。

Practice being happy in order to be healthy!
“What we know about karma is that’s its an accumulation of all the mistakes we have made in the past. The moment karma manifests, there will be a lot of obstacles obstructing our way forward. However, we can easily overcome these obstacles if we have accumulated sufficient merits and virtues.”

Life is never easy. Not only do we have to toil to feed ourselves, we also have to worry about the challenges faced during the four stages of life – birth, old age, sickness and death. Practicing dharma and meditation brings us the wisdom and energy to liberate ourselves and to face those challenges with a positive mindset.

We only have one chance at this life. We should use this opportunity to learn to be happy, which will help us become healthy and blissful! Let us listen to the touching story of how Xiaomei Li found her happiness…

Xiaomei Li from Vancouver:
I used to bear resentment towards my father due to the quarrels we had in the past. The accumulation of negative emotions in my body caused my health to take a turn for the worse some time back and I began to show symptoms of internal hemorrhage.

One day, when I was at the center to register for meditation class, I happened to hear Master say: “Ingratitude towards your parents will cause bad karma to befall you.” This astounded me and made me realize how poor my attitude has been towards my parents. They love me a lot. They have gone through a lot of hardship to bring me up and put me through school to get my medical doctorate. Yet I have never felt gratitude towards them. I even harbored prejudices against my own father, and rebutted him frequently. Come to think about it, I have been really petty.

Not long after that, I also heard Master say: “I am here to help people; to help petty people become magnanimous, and to help magnanimous people become saints.” Knowing that Master will not give up on me gave me the determination to correct my wrongdoings and to persevere in my practice.

The moment I reached home that day, I made a long distance call to my father. He was gratified by my concern, and was so touched that tears filled his eyes. I couldn’t stop my own tears too. The unhappiness that has lived in my heart for so many years melted away in that instant.

From then on, my mood improved. Whenever I am out, I cannot help but admire the sky that is so blue. The air smelled especially clean and fresh. The flowers are so vibrantly beautiful. Even the birds’ songs are especially pleasant to the ears.

Through chanting and practicing the Meditation of Greater Illumination, my internal hemorrhage was cured. The hard shell that has wrapped around me felt off layer by layer and I became more relaxed and at peace.

I have never felt so touched, grateful and relaxed in my life. I realized there are many other people who are suffering from mental and physical ailments in this world. I would like to learn to spread this joy to them and help them achieve happier and healthier lives.

根據中醫理論,人的五臟與四季對應。四季之中,春天屬木;而人體的五臟之中,肝臟也是木性。因此春季易使肝火旺盛,春天肝病也極易復發。所以,春天養肝恰好是順應氣候變化養生的選擇。

菊花,具有養肝、清肝、明目的功效;枸杞、山楂,均能滋養肝腎 。菊花,加上枸杞、山楂、冰糖一起泡來飲用,可以起到清熱排毒、明目養顏的作用。
.
需要注意的是菊花茶性偏苦寒,體虛之人不宜多飲用;胃寒胃虛的人也要少用菊花茶。孕婦也不宜喝。

在選材上,因菊花的種類很多,不懂門道的人會選擇花朵白晰且大的菊花,其實又小又醜且顏色泛黃的菊花反而是上選。「養生枸杞菊花茶」的材料與作法如下。

材料:
菊花20朵、乾枸杞10粒、山楂3片、冰糖150克、水1000ml。

作法:
1. 將菊花、枸杞、山楂、冰糖倒入茶壺;
2. 沖入90-100℃沸水;
3. 加蓋燜泡10分鐘左右;
4. 倒出即可飲用。

【Spring Health Series ─ ─ Chrysanthemum wolf-berry tea】

According to Traditional Chinese Medicine, the five internal organs correspond to the four seasons. Among them, spring is categorized under the wood element, same as the liver in the human body. Thus, in spring, liver-fire is strong and so spring is also the season for frequent recurrence of liver illnesses. Therefore, to nourish the liver in spring, we need to adapt to seasonal changes to keep it in good health.

Chrysanthemum has the effect of nourishing and cleansing the liver as well as improving eyesight; both wolf-berries and hawthorn help to nourish the liver and kidney. Chrysanthemum, with wolf-berry, hawthorn, and rock sugar can be steeped into a drink which has cooling and detoxifying effect. It also helps to improve eyesight and promote younger-looking skin.

It should be noted that chrysanthemum tea is of bitter-cold nature, thus unsuitable for people with weak physical conditions. Those with stomach problems should limit the intake of chrysanthemum tea. Due to the large varieties of chrysanthemum available, many people do not know how to choose them. They tend to pick the big, white flowers. In fact, the small, unsightly yellowish chrysanthemum flowers are the best choice. The ingredients and process for making healthy wolf-berry chrysanthemum tea are as follows.

Ingredients:
Chrysanthemum, 20 pieces
Dried wolf-berries, 10 pieces
Hawthorn 3 pieces
Rock sugar 150 grams
Water 1000ml.

Methods:
1. Put chrysanthemum, wolf-berry, hawthorn and rock sugar into a teapot;
2. Pour 90-100 ℃ boiling water to it.
3. Cover and steep for about 10 minutes;
4. Enjoy.
