.
作法:
1、土豆(馬鈴薯)去皮切絲,能切多細就切多細,蔥花切碎(食全素者可用改用薑末);
2、土豆絲(馬鈴薯絲)入盆,灑入麵粉,量以土豆絲都能黏到、但土豆絲(馬鈴薯絲)仍保持根根分離狀為宜;
3、放入蔥花、鹽、胡椒調味,用筷子將土豆絲(馬鈴薯絲)與調味料抖落均勻;
4、平底煎鍋倒油適量,將拌好的土豆絲(馬鈴薯絲)入鍋,以鏟子壓平;

Bodhi Healthy Vegetarian classroom – Rösti (Grated Potato Pancake)

People in modern cities typically dine outside for convenience due to their busy schedules and do not cook at home. Nonetheless, I urge everyone to have home cooked meals as much as possible for your health, because you’d tend to pay attention to your ingredients as well as their cleanliness in the preparation. That way, you can rest assure and consume with ease.

A netizen recommended a simple dish that can be enjoyed by adults and children alike. We can try out the recipe at home.

Ingredients:
Potatoes, flour (amount as preferred), green onions (alternatively, ginger for vegans), salt, and pepper in moderation.

Preparation:
1. Peel and cut the potatoes in strips; the finer the better. Chop the onions (or alternatively, ginger for vegans);
2. place the grated potatoes into a basin, lightly coat them by sprinkling sufficient flour, making sure the potato pieces remain well separated;
3. add onion (or ginger), salt, and pepper as seasoning, mixing them well using a pair of chopsticks;
4. pan-fry the ingredients including the grated potatoes with appropriate oil, and flatten into pancake with a frying spatula;
5. turn the pancake over from time to time to ensure even cooking until both sides are golden before serving.

【To “see through” illusion is wisdom, to “let go” is liberation】

We all longed to be healthy, serene, happy and free; with no worries and stress. But how do we break free from the mire of worries to attain peace, tranquility, purity and ease?

Whether we live our life blissfully or not is not dependent on the amount of money we have but whether we go with the flow. Many situations are in a flux, changing between truth and delusion, what brings you happiness may be poisonous. It may allow you to enjoy the present moment but this feeling of bliss may be hell. In this case, happiness becomes a bad thing. Often, when we struggle through a trying situation, we feel excruciating pain. But once we pass the test, we can taste the sweet fruit of success. The pain is only momentary, part of the journey towards success, If we do not see through this truth, we will not be liberated from all situations and that is how worries arise.

See the truth and be liberated. We can only let go of things that we are especially obsessed with by seeing clearly the truth of this world. We have to let go of all things, the bad ones and the ones that look good and wonderful.

By letting go, we follow the flow of things and we are not trapped by our stress or worries. Only then can we attain a tranquil repose and a liberated soul.

Meditation allows us to achieve the ultimate liberation and being at ease.

“Flower and Zen” – Chrysanthemum

Borne during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, poet Tao Yuanming’s fifth poem in a series of masterpieces named “Drink” expresses it superlatively, “picking the chrysanthemums under the eastern hedge, leisurely taking in the sights of the southern hills.” “These two phrases have garnered very high accolades in articulating the essence of “serenity”, and “abstraction” in contemplating life in its pure simplicity. When we calm down, moderate our pace so as to feel the real essence of nature, we can appreciate the beauty of the blooming flowers of every season, and discover the nuances in the ever-changing universe.rnrn【花與禪】──菊

《New release》 Understanding how Meditation leads to good health (July 1, 2017)

Is it easy to stay healthy?
Some would say: “One’s mood and emotion is dependent on the general well-being of one’s health.”
Others feel: “The hereditary genetics from our ancestors play a vital role in determining the state of our health!”

There are many reasons why people fall sick.
The key to a healthy physical and mental body is to strike a proper “balance”.

If we were to compare our body to a car, the analogy is similar. New cars are less prone to problems. Cars which have been in use for a long time tend to break down easily and require constant maintenance. At times, we need to replace their faulty spare parts in order to keep them functioning.

How about our bodies which have been working non-stop for the last 40 years from the day we were born. Have we maintained ourselves properly? Some of us only visit the doctor when we are extremely sick only to discover our internal organs have suffered irreparable damages.

How then do we maintain a state of “balance” in our mind and body?

I welcome everyone to join me this coming Saturday in my discussion on the key to maintaining good health. You may gain some tips and inspiration to a better health. May all be blessed with longevity, good health and happiness!!

.
.
Everyone can become a Bodhisattva!
As long as we allow our Bodhicitta to grow, to benefit all and practice Buddhadharma with the spirit of a Bodhisattva, everyone can obtain enlightenment and brings good fortune to all sentient beings, gain happiness and avoid sufferings just like a Bodhisattva.

As the Guanyin Bodhisattva’s Enlightenment Day approaches, the days are filled with great auspiciousness. The energy field is extremely strong as the Buddha and Bodhisattvas shower compassionate blessings on all sentient beings.

I encourage all of you to chant the mantra of Guanyin Bodhisattva for at least 30 minutes each day. Pray to the omnipresent Guanyin Bodhisattva who has a thousand hands and thousand eyes – who bear infinite wisdom and compassion – to help us overcome the difficulties and obstacles that we encounter in our lives. As we chant, make offerings, make vows and prostrate to the Bodhisattva with great sincerity during this period of time, we will be blessed with great fortune, great wisdom and strong energy.

As we chant with sincerity everyday, I also wish for the mantra to spread throughout the world, showering illumination and auspiciousness on everybody. May all enjoy good health and happiness.

Bye-bye ….

Bye-bye
.
.

Regained health & bided farewell to my wheelchair of 5 years

For most of us who can walk normally, it is impossible to understand those who spend their days on the wheelchair. For 5 years, she could only rely on the wheelchair for mobility. Luckily there was a miracle, and within a short span of 3 weeks, she overcame her immobility and no longer relied upon the wheelchair. What is this amazing and true story about? Let us hear her story..
————————————————————
Testimonial from Malaysia

In May 2012, I suddenly could not walk. The doctor’s examination revealed that I was stricken with lumbar cartilage necrosis in 2 vertebrae, and compression of the sciatic nerves. This resulted in weakness in both legs. I could not stand, much less walk, and had to rely on the wheelchair to move about! At times when the backache acted up, even injections were useless in relieving the pain, and I could not shift from my bed.

Over the next two years, western medicine, physiotherapy, acupuncture, and orthopedics; I tried them all, but none was of use to my condition. Surgery was recommended by western doctors, but the risk was high, with disability or death as high as 50%. Having discussed with my family, I decided not to undergo surgery. Despite exhausting my lifetime savings, cure was not in sight, and my confidence eroded. Since 2014, I’d abandoned all treatments.

I used to be active, but due to the illness I had to rely on the wheelchair, and on the all-round support to move around. I lost interest in going out. I began to dislike myself, as I felt that I was a burden to the family. I felt I was repulsive, and became short-tempered. One day, I came across the website by Bodhi Meditation on the internet. I read various testimonials and was inspired. Thus, I registered for the Qing Ming Festival Chanting and Light Offering event at Cheras Bodhi Meditation Center that was held around March 28th this year.

On the first day of the chanting class, I arrived at the center in my wheelchair. I was blessed with the warm assistance by the volunteers, who helped me in and out of the wheelchair. They also accompanied me in all activities throughout the week. It was a warm feeling. My fellow brothers and sisters constantly encouraged me to persevere and not give up, selflessly shared their experiences and testimonials, allowing me to build my courage and confidence. These volunteers also urged me to attempt to stop using the wheelchair; supporting me in my bids to take slow steps, one at a time.

After the Qing Ming Festival worship activities, I would proceed daily to the Bodhi Meditation Center between 9.30am to 12.30pm in the afternoon for the Meditation of Greater Illumination as well as for chanting. By the second week, I felt my legs were stronger than before, and I could walk slowly to the meditation centre with the support of my wheelchair! What was more miraculous was, by the third week, I could finally and completely leave the wheelchair days behind! Since then, I have walked to the meditation centre by myself, and with steady strides!

I’m finally able to move about by myself! In a short span of 3 weeks, I regained the ability to walk, and can finally leave the days with the wheelchair of 5 years behind. I was elated! It was beyond my wildest dreams that me, Long Biyun could have my legs recovered! I’m also thankful for the utmost care and concern of my family over the past 5 years! Special thanks to all volunteers at the Cheras Bodhi Meditation Center for the familial care and encouragements! Most grateful to Master Jin Bodhi!

May those who are afflicted with illness and pain find solace in Bodhi Meditation and swiftly regain health and happiness.

(Note: The benefits of meditation can vary from person to person)
*Bodhi Meditation does not advocate to stop or reduce any meditation, please consult your doctor.

Winter melon tea – refreshing and helps to relieve heat

In summer, we tend to perspire more, feel thirsty, frustrated, as well as hot tempered. During this time, most people cannot resist the temptation of iced milk tea or juice, which can be detrimental to our health due to the high sugar content, as it can affect our stomach and pancreas. Why not try this healthy drink, ideal for the summer season – winter melon tea!

Winter melon can be used to prepare a nice dish, it can also be used to boil as winter melon tea.
According to the Chinese Compendium of Materia Medica, winter melon has a cooling nature, is diuretic, helps reduces swelling, removes heat and toxin, clears stomach heat, amongst other benefits. Adding a small amount of ginger when preparing winter melon tea can help to neutralize the “coolness” of the winter melon, thus making it a very refreshing drink suitable for summer season.
The ingredients and preparation method for the tea are mentioned below.

Ingredients:
Winter melon 1000g (1 kg), ginger a few slices

Method:
1. Remove the skin of the winter melon, remove the seeds and rinse, cut to cubes
2. In a pot of boiling water, add a few slices of ginger and the winter melon cubes, simmer for 40 minutes
3. Turn off the fire and put on the pot lid, let it continue to simmer for another 20 minutes, then it’s ready to be served.

Are the Heavens Fair or Unfair?

During the Song Dynasty, there was an upright official known as Justice Bao. One day while he was patrolling his county, he was surrounded by a group of villagers who blocked his path and knelt in front of him. “Justice Bao, there is something which we do not understand! There is a young man in the village who was born with a disability and his parents passed away when he was very young. He had such a tough life, but had a good heart. Yet he was killed by lightning. Why were all the good deeds he did not enough to transform his tragic life?”

Feeling that something was amiss, Justice Bao asked the villagers: “Can you share with me the story of this young man?”

The villagers continued: “This child was born with a kind heart. Due to the lack of a bridge in our village, crossing the river was a treacherous affair and many of the villagers lost their lives doing it. He saw this and he had a wish to build a bridge to allow the villagers to cross the river safely. He started to pick small rocks using his little hands from a young age. By the time he was in his teens, he had accumulated a lot of rocks. His actions touched the villagers and everybody came to help him build the bridge. Sadly though, in the midst of building the bridge, he became blind in both eyes in an unfortunate accident.

But that did not dampen the child’s aspirations. Without any complaints, he insisted on completing the bridge. Very soon, the bridge was completed. But not long after that, the village was hit by a storm and the young man was struck and killed by a bolt of lightning next to the bridge! How unfair are the heavens! Justice Bao, you have to help give us a judgment!”

After listening to the story, Justice Bao exclaimed: “This is really unfair! Let me inscribe the words ‘The Heavens are unfair’ in memory of this young man!”

Not long after that, Justice Bao completed his patrols and returned to the palace where he met with the emperor. Upon seeing him, the emperor exclaimed: “My dear Justice Bao! Do I have good news to share with you! I just had a newborn son, let me show him to you.” When Justice Bao reached out to carry the little prince, the baby stretched his hands out towards Justice Bao, with the palms facing upwards. With shock, Justice Bao saw the words “The Heavens are unfair” inscribed on the baby’s tiny hands.
Upon seeing this, Justice Bao decided to use his heavenly sight to check on the baby’s past lives. He discovered that the little prince was actually the reincarnation of the young man who was killed by lightning in the village not long ago. He went back in time to check on the young man’s previous life and found that he was a bad person who had done many evil deeds in that lifetime. Due to these evil deeds, he had accumulated karmic debt that was to be repaid over three lifetimes. In his first lifetime, he would be born as an orphan, disabled and alone; in his second lifetime he would be born blind, living in darkness his whole life; in his third lifetime, he would be struck and killed by lightning at a young age. Only then would his karmic debt be fully repaid.

But because the young man had a kind heart and persevered in building the bridge to help all the villagers, the heavens allowed him to pay off his debt in one lifetime instead of three. In a span of a few decades, he repaid all his debt and managed to be reincarnated as the prince. Three lifetimes of bad karmic debt was compressed into one instead – how good a deal is that!
The moral of the story is that the justice of the heavens will be manifested slowly but surely. As long as you perform good deeds and have kind thoughts, you will get good recompense in return.

If you like this story, please share it out. The more you share, the more fortune you will receive!
