.
Many diseases arise due to our unhealthy diet
.
Illnesses can arise due to poor food choices or our unhealthy diet which includes indiscriminate consumption of tonics, supplement, seafood etc…
.
People who thinks they love themselves actually don’t. They become victims to their cravings of taste.
.
It is the poverty of the mind that causes such craving for taste and indiscriminate eating, to the extent of eating for the sake of eating. In the end, they are the ones who suffer.

.

.
I suffered from fatty liver for 20 years, medication did not help the situation and there was no improvement during the yearly medical check-ups. My doctor said he has no solution.
.
I started meditation in January 2016 and participated in the 8.5 days Health and Happiness Retreat and the chanting class at Bodhi Meditation Centre. In February 2017 this year, I went back to the hospital for a check-up again and my doctor actually told me that my liver had recovered and is normal now!
.
I also experienced another miracle. Last November, my head was hit by a metal plate at a shopping mall entrance. At that time, I felt vibration in my head and some pressure on the spine at the neck for a while. The next day, I had a very bad headache. The doctor said we had to wait for 3 months to see if my memory is affected or felt weird before deciding to have an x-ray taken. After this, my scalp started tingling and the back of the head felt like it did not stick to the skull. I felt my scalp was empty and my brain was blank frequently. My spine also felt more and more painful, more and more tight, as if something was pulling it. This feeling slowly extended to the shoulder, to the chest. I felt painful and had no strength to raise my head. When I lie down, I could not even raise my head.
.
When I practiced the Meditation of Greater Illumination, my head felt hot and it was comfortable. At that time my daughter-in-law obtained a bunch of beads from the meditation center and gave it to me. I like to beautify myself and would wear the bunch of beads on my hands and neck. Unexpectedly, on the second day of wearing the beads, my spine felt unobstructed, without pain, I felt very relaxed.
.
After 2 months of practice, I don’t feel empty or have any tingling feelings anymore; my brain also does not go blank. It’s unbelievable that at 65 years old, I am still able to lead a healthier and happier life. All thanks to me meeting Bodhi Meditation and meeting Grandmaster JinBodhi.
.
I wish to share my gratitude and touching story with all of you. May you persevere on with life like me, not giving up but growing in confidence. To help ourselves and others in life.

.
Many parents feel troubled when they see their children playing with computers and have sought my advice to resolve the problem. Among them was a Taiwanese secondary school teacher who asked me with a face full of sorrow: “My child sits in front of the computer every day from morning till night. Though I earnestly talk to him and ask him not to, he refuses to listen. I am troubled over this!”
.
I asked her: “How did your child fare in his school examination?”
Secondary school teacher: “Average.”
I asked: “Does he have physical disability?”
Secondary school teacher: “ No.”
I told her: “Congratulations!”
Secondary school teacher: “ Why did you congratulate me? He is so disobedient.”
.
I replied: “Congratulations on having a good child! At least his mental development and physical health is normal. You have to feel grateful for this mere fact. Do you know a lot of women desire to have children but cannot conceive? These women must be very envious of you! Besides, your child is healthy and able-bodied. What else do you have to grumble about?”
.
Moreover, in this modern age, people use computers to earn a living. Every job requires the use of computers. If a child does not know how to use computers, he would not be able to find a job in the future; when he fails to find a job, you would regret it then and blame yourself for not letting him play with computers! We only need to worry if a child shows no interest in computers!
.
As to how we can hone his computer literacy skill, that is dependent on parental guidance. For instance, ask your child to take photos of you and then modify them to how he thinks you looked like when you were 18 years old. That is what I would call guiding him properly. In this way, you are developing his computer skills over time.
.
After listening to my words, she acknowledged the truth of my words and adopted an understanding and accommodating mindset to think from her child’s perspective. Her relationship with her child is now no longer opposing and strained. She does not look sorrowful now whenever she sees her child playing with computers.

The most beautiful offering — A Poor Woman’s Light Offering
Aspiration gives strength and is the driving force; it’s magnitude can gives unfathomable results.

Aspiration can resist karmic force, eliminate all resentment and illuminate all.
During the Buddha’s time, in the city of Sravasti, there lived a impoverished lonely woman. As she was poor, she lived a vagrant life begging for food or spare change and there was no hope for her future.
However, a predestined relationship changes her life.
One day in the midst of a fiercely cold wind, using her weak and trembling hands, she begged for an entire day, finally receiving one small coin. With this coin she could only afford to buy a small morsel of food to support her life.
However, the news of offering light to the Buddha inspired her. Seeing everyone in the city, including the royal family, officials, and commoners using all kinds of valuable oil and exquisite decorated lamps to make light offerings to Buddha with devotion and sincerity, she couldn’t help but joyously praised all the devotees; the wish to make an offering to the Buddha also arose in her mind.
She thought, “The manifestation of the Buddha in this world is so rare and precious. I should really make use of this opportunity to make an offering to the Buddha”.

Such a desire resembles a young seeding quickly growing in her heart. “What a shame, because in my past I did not cultivate any merit, so in this life I am poor and miserable. Even if I would really like to make an offering, I don’t have anything special to offer!”

As she looked at the lone coin sitting in her hand, she knew that if she didn’t spend it on food for herself she would have to pass another long, endless night in hunger and cold. And yet, her vow to make a light offering to the Buddha remained strong and resolute.

Using that one small coin, she could only afford to buy the smallest amount of the crudest oil. However, her sincerity was much brighter than the light emitting from any lamps.

When the shopkeeper who was selling the oil saw how she was willing to suffer through another long and cold night in order to make an offering to the Buddha, he became so moved that he could not resist giving her several times more oil than what she had paid for, so as to help her achieve her dream.

As darkness descended upon the city, all the townsfolk, from the lords up in the imperial palace down to the commoners on the streets, with their hearts full of sincerity, illuminated their lamps for the Buddha. The lamps dazzled like a sparkling river and lit up the entire city of Sravasti. The penniless women was in the midst of that crowd, respectfully lighting her oil lamp.
When the very ordinary oil lamp of hers lighted up in the middle of the night, it was as if her own low and insignificant life was also being lit up. At that moment, she experienced an extraordinary feeling of richness and happiness. In her heart, she made a great vow: “I wish that this light may pervade through the ten directions, guiding every sentient beings out of the miserable sea of birth and death to the path of supreme peace and happiness.”
With the arrival of dawn, an unimaginable thing happened! All the oil lamps, no matter how precious, had already been extinguished from burning throughout the night or were blown out by Maudgalyayana, who was in charge of keeping watch on the lamps. However, the lamp offered by the penniless woman was still shining brightly. Even after exhausting every type of method for extinguishing the light, Maudgalyayana, who had the greatest supernatural powers out of all Buddha’s disciples, still could not put it out. He was astonished: “Whose lamp is this that is still burning? Even with my supernatural powers, I cannot put it out!”

The Buddha, who was present at the time said: “Maudgalyayana, the person who offered this lamp made a great vow to save all sentient beings. Even if you used all the water in the four great oceans, you would still not be able to extinguish this lamp. This lamp was lit using a great, compassionate vow, and because she was full of sincerity, the light radiating from this lamp is inexhaustible.”

In Autumn, a good way to maintain health is to focus on strengthening the lungs by consuming more white color food such as white radish, white fungus, bulbus lilii, lotus root etc. We like to share a recipe of lotus root glutinous rice, a dish which is commonly found in restaurants as a sweetened dish. Today, we shall have a sugar-free recipe of lotus root glutinous rice
Ingredients:
lotus root (2 segments), glutinous rice(half a bowl), red dates( 5)
Method:
1. Wash the glutinous rice and soak in water for about 3 hours.
2. Wash the lotus root and peel the skin.
3. Cut off a 3cm portion at the head of lotus root and put aside.
4. Fill the holes of the lotus root with glutinous rice and push the rice down the holes with chopsticks.
5. Attach the 3cm cut portion to cover holes of the lotus root and secure with a toothpick.
6. Put the lotus root glutinous rice into a pot of water, making sure that the water covers the lotus root, and then add red dates into the water.
7. Boil on high heat and turn to medium mode to cook for further 40 minutes.
8. Drain dry, cool it and then slice before serving.
This dish is suitable for maintaining good health in Autumn. If you are not used to the sugar-free version, some honey can be added after slicing. It may be clumsy to slice the lotus root glutinous rice while hot, yet it is not tasty when taken cold. To consume it warm, it is better to slice it when it is not too hot
