Empower Your Dreams

Everyone hopes to succeed in life, especially youth with dreams and goals. They wish to become leaders in their own lives and be victorious from the beginning.

However, the more anxious one is, the more irresolute and helpless one becomes. So, what kind of life is considered successful? I feel that to achieve our goals in life, we need a good plan. Be persistent and persevere on towards your goals. Believe in yourself and proceed with courage to realize your dreams.

My dream is to be a good medical doctor. Four years ago, my beloved father passed away from an illness that the Canadian and Taiwanese doctors could not diagnose. I promised my father that I will diligently pursue my studies and become a famous medical doctor to identify his cause of death. I soon realized that it is not easy to become a good medical doctor, and I began to fear that I was unable to keep my promise to my father.
Unknowingly, I started to feel the pressure and felt lost and helpless.

During the summer of 2017, my mother registered me for an International Bodhi Meditation Youth Camp in Malaysia.
Initially, I was doubtful and was very skeptical about this camp, thinking that it must be very boring. To my surprise, it turned out to be fun and rich in content with deep learning.

During the camp, Grandmaster JinBodhi shared with us about the plight of the Myanmar people; lack of educational facilities, poor economic environment, and severe lack of medical care and infrastructure. The lack of public healthcare and basic nutrition has resulted in an average of 40% mortality rate amongst the population. I wept and am determined to be a good doctor so that I can organize medical teams to help the Myanmar people.

Whilst previously I was determined to fulfill my promise to my father to be a good doctor, now I am more determined to be a good doctor to help more people. I feel more confidence to achieve my dream to become a good doctor after the Youth Camp. I decided to start saving to make a trip to Myanmar at the end of my first year at university, so that I can personally experience the plight of the Myanmar people and strengthen my resolve to achieve my dream to be a doctor and be compassionate.

I would like to thank all the members of the Youth Camp for being with me and learnt together. I would also like to especially appreciate our Korean team members who befriended me and widened my horizons despite language barriers. Many thanks to our Youth camp leaders and teachers who worked hard for 12 days. And a very special thank you to Grandmaster JinBodhi for your very thoughtful, humorous and profoundly helpful guidance and teaching that has refocussed my life direction.
