Those with strong energy field tend to be leaders and attract success in all aspects of life.

To be a lady of grace and elegance is the wish of every woman and also the dream of every man for his future wife. If a man marries a virtuous and elegant wife, his family will thrive and prosper. How can we nurture grace and elegance? Is it possible to change for those who are already married?

Human is part of the social construct where we need to live together as a social group. When we do not get along well with people, we feel troubled. Often, we may find it difficult to face our family members, friends and even colleagues at work to the extent that we begin to dislike ourselves and feel helpless to get on with life.
Through meditation, such inter-personal issues will slowly diminish. As you become wiser and more awakened, you will realize that your circle of friends grow wider.

Generally, people without friends tend to feel more troubled; on the contrary, those with more friends feel happier.

I welcome you to join me this Saturday to discuss how to relief yourself from such life disturbances, and gain more wisdom, health and happiness.

「時尚禪修」—流行、健康、快樂。

快節奏的現代生活常讓都市人疲憊不堪…
而有一種清新、健康的養生方法因此正在流行,成為一種新風尚,那就是──「禪修」。

「禪修」使人快樂??
美國威斯康辛大學_麥迪森分校_心理學和精神病學教授_大衛遜(同時也是位於Waisman中心的「精神健康研究中心」的創建者和主席),他在美國國家科學院院刊(PNAS)上發表了論文。
.
他們認為:「禪修可以改變我們的情緒,可能讓我們更快樂。」
.
緊張、疲憊,使現代人尋求很多方法來放鬆,像出去打球、或者到戶外運動等等。 但這些方法都不如在那兒靜靜地去坐上一個鐘頭,能夠使你的疲勞很快消失,快樂、正面、健康的能量就會充滿全身。

「禪修」的過程,就像是我們到河裡頭舀了一桶水上來,起先是渾濁的,然後泥沙、樹葉那些重的就會沉到桶底,中間這一段相對來說比較乾淨,透明、透澈,雜質越少水也就越透澈。

而禪修,也是借由人們靜下來,使重的能量沉下去,通過各種通道,呼吸、出汗、排泄、大小便,都慢慢排出體外。而輕的呢,就浮上來了,浮到哪兒呢?浮到意識之外了。

一旦,我們的身心進入清淨狀態之後,你會將很多原來不應該去執著的煩惱,自然地過濾掉,容易將事物的真相理解得透徹,這點是很奇妙的,這也是佛法中不可思議的現象。

「禪修」會讓我們的心變得平靜而清澈,此時快樂感就會從心底自然升起,所以經常禪修的人,通常比不禪修的人較為「快樂」和「幸福」。

There is a new, healthy approach to physical well-being that is increasingly popular and trendy….. “Meditation”.

Can “meditating” brings happiness?
Davidson, Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry of University of Wisconsin’s Madison School (also Founder and President of Waisman Center’s Mental Health Research Center) has published relevant papers in the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) on this.
The research shows, “meditation can transform our mood, and make us happier.”

Stress and exhaustion drives today’s man to search for ways to relax, activities like ball games or outdoor exercises, and so on. However, such efforts pale in comparison to an hour of quiet meditation that rapidly dissipates one’s fatigue and brings about bliss, positivity, and abundant healthy energy to the whole body.

“Meditation” is like when one draws a bucket of water from the river; initially muddy, then the sediment, leaves, and heavier particles sink to the bottom, leaving the centre section relatively clearer, transparent and permeated. With less impurities, the water becomes more transparent.
Thus, people practice meditation as a means to calm down, allowing stale energy to sink and gradually be removed from the body through various channels such as respiration, perspiration, and excretion. The subtle energy rises from within; where does it elevate to? It elevates to our consciousness.

Once the body and mind enter into this calm meditative state, one can naturally filter out the many unnecessary anxieties that are caused by one’s attachment, and come to comprehend the underlying truth in matters easily. This is the miraculous aspect and phenomenon of the Dharma.

“Meditation” transforms our mind, making it calm and clear, allowing bliss to elevate naturally from within. Thus, a conscientious practitioner usually experiences more bliss and happiness than a non-practitioner.

Far too often, we spend a lot of time pointing out other people’s faults when we should instead focus on improving ourselves.

When we learn to see the good in people, that leads us on the path towards self improvement. When you are able to develop kindness within yourself, you will then be able to experience happiness and bliss regardless of the person, situation or object in front of you. You will then experience happiness in every aspect of your life.

「貪」會引發傷害。。 。
有同修問我:「怎樣讓我的股票不跌呢?」 

我說:
「就像海水,你坐在海岸邊上,海水隨時漲起來,隨時消下去。這個就叫做自然規律。股票市場也是這樣,因為那麼多人參與的本身,它就形成了個人無法操控的一個現象。就像海一樣,它已經脫離了某一個人的操控,所以它隨時起起落落。
因此,要想不在股票市場上輸,就不要買。

所以我們做事情要能『不貪』,不貪就會贏,貪就會虧。舍才能得。見好趕快收,很簡單的道理。那為什麼會虧呢?貪心太大。」

A practitioner asked me: “ How do I ensure my stock prices do not fall?”

I replied:
“Just like the tides, when you sit on a coast near the ocean, you will notice constant tidal fluctuations. This is the law of nature. The same applies to the stock market. Many people participate in the stock market and there are many different factors affecting stock prices. Stock prices are definitely not within anyone’s control, just like the tides. Hence, do not buy any stock if you do not wish to suffer losses in the stock market.

When we are doing things, do not let our greed get the better of us. We will not suffer a loss if we are not greedy. Excessive greed eventually destroys us. In order to gain, we must be willing to give.

We must have the wisdom to know when to stop pursuing for more gains when we are still in a winning position and not continue to let ourselves be pushed by our greed into a pit. Though this is a simple principle that is easily understood, many people still continue to suffer losses. Why is that so? Because of greed; the desire to gain more.”

「就像海水,你坐在海岸邊上,海水隨時漲起來,隨時消下去。這個就叫做自然規律。股票市場也是這樣,因為那麼多人參與的本身,它就形成了個人無法操控的一個現象。就像海一樣,它已經脫離了某一個人的操控,所以它隨時起起落落。
因此,要想不在股票市場上輸,就不要買。

所以我們做事情要能『不貪』,不貪就會贏,貪就會虧。舍才能得。見好趕快收,很簡單的道理。那為什麼會虧呢?貪心太大。」

A practitioner asked me: “ How do I ensure my stock prices do not fall?”

I replied:
“Just like the tides, when you sit on a coast near the ocean, you will notice constant tidal fluctuations. This is the law of nature. The same applies to the stock market. 來自溫哥華的李小妹:
過去我與父親之間有些不愉快,心中對父親有過埋怨。身體也因為常常積累情緒而變得不好,有些內出血的症狀。
一次的機會,我來報名禪修課程,聽到了師父說:「對父母知恩不圖報會有惡業伴隨你的。」我很震驚,才驚覺到自己這些日子對父母的態度,從小我的父母親非常疼愛我,他們千辛萬苦把我養育成人,並將我培養成一個醫學博士,而我不但沒感恩父母,還對父親心懷成見,常與父親頂撞。現在想想,簡直就是一個小人。

後來又聽到師父說:「我就是來幫人的,要幫小人變成大人,幫大人變成聖人。」我想師父沒有放棄我,我要改正,要好好修行。
一回到家,我就給遠隔重洋的父親打了個問候的電話,父親非常欣慰,感動得熱淚盈眶,我的淚水也止不住的流,父女倆多年的心結終於解開了。

心結解開了,心情也隨之改變了,每天出門,我看到的天空是份外的藍,份外的潔淨與清新,花兒是如此的美艷,小鳥的叫聲也是格外的悅耳動聽。

最重要的是,通過「念佛」和修練「大光明」,我的大出血好了。原來身上被包裹著的一層硬殼,也一層層地剝落了,渾身輕鬆柔軟了。
感動、感恩,與輕鬆,這樣的狀態是我從未有過的體驗,我也要學習將這份喜悅繼續傳下去,引領更多正受著身心疾病折磨的人,也與我一樣變得快樂又健康。

Practice being happy in order to be healthy!
“What we know about karma is that’s its an accumulation of all the mistakes we have made in the past. The moment karma manifests, there will be a lot of obstacles obstructing our way forward. However, we can easily overcome these obstacles if we have accumulated sufficient merits and virtues.”

Life is never easy. Not only do we have to toil to feed ourselves, we also have to worry about the challenges faced during the four stages of life – birth, old age, sickness and death. Practicing dharma and meditation brings us the wisdom and energy to liberate ourselves and to face those challenges with a positive mindset.

We only have one chance at this life. We should use this opportunity to learn to be happy, which will help us become healthy and blissful! Let us listen to the touching story of how Xiaomei Li found her happiness…

Xiaomei Li from Vancouver:
I used to bear resentment towards my father due to the quarrels we had in the past. The accumulation of negative emotions in my body caused my health to take a turn for the worse some time back and I began to show symptoms of internal hemorrhage.

One day, when I was at the center to register for meditation class, I happened to hear Master say: “Ingratitude towards your parents will cause bad karma to befall you.” This astounded me and made me realize how poor my attitude has been towards my parents. They love me a lot. They have gone through a lot of hardship to bring me up and put me through school to get my medical doctorate. Yet I have never felt gratitude towards them. I even harbored prejudices against my own father, and rebutted him frequently. Come to think about it, I have been really petty.

Not long after that, I also heard Master say: “I am here to help people; to help petty people become magnanimous, and to help magnanimous people become saints.” Knowing that Master will not give up on me gave me the determination to correct my wrongdoings and to persevere in my practice.

The moment I reached home that day, I made a long distance call to my father. He was gratified by my concern, and was so touched that tears filled his eyes. I couldn’t stop my own tears too. The unhappiness that has lived in my heart for so many years melted away in that instant.

From then on, my mood improved. Whenever I am out, I cannot help but admire the sky that is so blue. The air smelled especially clean and fresh. The flowers are so vibrantly beautiful. Even the birds’ songs are especially pleasant to the ears.

Through chanting and practicing the Meditation of Greater Illumination, my internal hemorrhage was cured. The hard shell that has wrapped around me felt off layer by layer and I became more relaxed and at peace.

I have never felt so touched, grateful and relaxed in my life. I realized there are many other people who are suffering from mental and physical ailments in this world. I would like to learn to spread this joy to them and help them achieve happier and healthier lives.

Today, Feb 14, is Valentine’s Day. It is a day of romance and to cherish love. On this day, we cherish our partners who accompany us faithfully in our life, whom we may often have differences with and yet, they relieve us from loneliness.

However, many marriages are also formed in baffling circumstances, and couples only start questioning their existence when they ponder over them later with clear minds.

Actually, the “fortuitous togetherness” is also a form of happiness!

Question :
I have questions with regards to what Master taught about relationships on Facebook some time back;
What is predestined affinity? Do you think any person you like should belong to you?
You mentioned,
“I think “fortuitous togetherness” is good enough, so long as the other party is of the opposite sex and of an acceptable age to you”
Master, I am confused and do not quite understand what “fortuitous togetherness” means.
Does it mean that if a person likes me or is nice to me, I should accept him/her as a potential partner?
Would that bring happiness to me?

Answer:
The phrase “fortuitous togetherness” (湊和) is a colloquial Northern Chinese expression. What I meant is one does not make high demands and expectations on the potential life partner or spouse. The higher the expectations, the more likely one will be disappointed.

So when I mentioned the concept of “fortuitous togetherness”, I meant one should set a reasonable expectation of the other person’s looks, income, occupation, height, family background, etc. Do not deliberate too much, just go along with the flow and be at ease.

When we meet a suitable person of the opposite sex at a suitable time and feel comfortable or even happy; thereafter understanding further his age, occupation, character, etc., which more or less meet our expectations, we may progress to the next stage of marriage to spend our life with that person.

After marriage, the concept of fortuitous togetherness may sound perfunctory or even irresponsible. But it actually means not to expect too much from the other person, not be too rigid that he/she feels suffocated. We need to relax and be at ease, and not be greedy and keep wanting more from the other person. In this way the relationship can progress naturally with ease. Fortuitous togetherness in Northern Chinese language also implies partnership and collaboration to achieve common goals.

Therefore, if we come together through fortuitous encounter, we work together to build the family by complementing each other. So even if we may not be perfect, we can still create a happy and perfect life together. Even though the child we produce may not be perfect in height, look and luck, or as pretty, but we will have true love and we can create a family which is more fortunate, spontaneous, more blissful, unpretentious, undemanding and realistic in expectations.

In fact, one reason why couple divorce is due to unrealistic expectations. For example, if the husband is in business, the wife hopes he will prosper. If the husband is still not wealthy after 10 years of marriage, the wife divorces and leaves him. Is this right?
Another example is when a lady hopes to marry someone who is in a high position. After 10 years of marriage and the partner is still not promoted, his wife leaves him.
Yet another example, a girl wishes to marry a tall and strong man, but after being married for 10 years, he is still not tall and strong, she leaves him.

Many couples with high expectations of each other end up being separated. What if they adopt the fortuitous togetherness attitude I mentioned?

To a lady, is it better to stay married than not?
To a man, is it better to be married than remain single?

With this attitude in mind, one would be more spontaneous and would love and cherish his family and manage the marriage with care.

So fortuitous togetherness is definitely not deceiving or perfunctory. It is a relaxed and blissful natural state. We can also call this a collaborative mental state. With fortuitous togetherness, the couple may live a hundred years together. With fortuitous togetherness, we can create the most natural, happiest and blessed families.
