中國有一個神話故事是這樣的:
一次大戰,有一位「黃帝」,他和南方的大首領(蚩尤)打仗的時候,各自帶了很多人馬。(蚩尤)布下了百里大霧,「黃帝」的軍隊被籠罩在一片迷茫的霧中,辨不清東南西北,三日三夜不散。

這時,有個叫「風後」的大臣,他突來「靈感」,創制出了一種「指南車」,這種車上立著一個小金屬人,不管車子轉向什麼方向,小金屬人伸出的一隻手總是指向「南方」。「黃帝」因為有了這輛「指南車」,軍隊就能辨明方向,終於,戰勝了蚩尤。

在古代,沒有任何現代科技的專業設備技術可談,憑的全是「靈性」的指引,這種「靈性」的能力足以應用於整個生活、軍事、農業、醫療、天氣、天文等方面,我們所知道的孔子、老子、莊子等這些有成就的人,都擁有這種特殊的「靈性」,而他們的特點都是有修行的人,可見「禪修」能帶給人很多靈性的東西。

How do you make yourself more spiritual?
.
According to legend in China, there was once a major war between the Emperor and the southern leader, Chi You. As part of his war strategy, Chi You staged an extensive range of fog to confuse and ambush the Emperor’s army. The Emperor’s army was trapped for three entire days by the fog.
.
At that moment, a minister, Feng Hou, had an inspiration. He created a type of “compass” car with a tiny metal man on it to point direction. No matter what direction the car turned, the outstretched hand of the tiny metal man’s would always point to the south. Because of the “compass”, the Emperor and his army could identify direction and finally defeated Chi You.
.
In ancient times, there was no modern technology or technical expertise. A lot was based on spiritual guidance and it was extended to all aspects of life, including military, agriculture, medicine, weather, astronomy and so forth. Many great sages such as Confucius, Laozi and Zhuangzi possessed such spirituality. What is special about them is that all of them were great cultivators. Thus, we can see how meditation can help to enhance our spirituality.

This week, we are going to talk about how mediation is a way to develop greater spirituality and overall ability.

把對孩子的期望,化做最深的祝福!

一般,父母對孩子最初的期許,是「健康、快樂、平安」的長大。並且,對自己的孩子寄予厚望,盼他們成龍成鳳;身為父母,家庭是孩子成長的第一大關,父母如何能給孩子最好的成長環境,也是給他們一生最好的禮物呢?

記得,在2010年,英國肯特郡湯布裡奇(Tonbridge)中學正式開設了「禪修」課程,這一課程由牛津大學和劍橋大學心理學家設計。事實證明,學生們通過學習「禪修」,更容易?集中注意力、?降低焦慮、?減少「破壞性」心態,?提升學業成績。

十幾年前,我也和一些中學、大學老師,配合做過一些試驗,播放一些菩提禪修的修練音樂給孩子們聽,有很多精力不集中、容易恍神的孩子,通過一段短期的「禪修」之後,他們的記憶力真的提高了很多,專注力、思考力都明顯提升,還可以激發青少年的想像力和創造力,開發智慧,尤其更改善了孩子們青春期肥胖等健康問題。???

Generally, parents’ initial wish of their children is for them to grow up healthy, happy and safely. They also tend to place high hope for their children to succeed later in life. As parents, family background plays an important part in determining how children will turn out when they grow up. How can parents provide their children the best growing environment, which is also their best gift in life?

In 2010 mindfulness meditation was introduced into the classrooms of Tonbridge School, Kent, England. The course was developed in conjunction with the psychologists from Cambridge University and Oxford University. It turns out that students are more likely to focus, reduce anxiety, decrease their “destructive” mentality and improve their grades by learning meditation.
.
Ten over years ago, I worked with some middle school and college teachers to do some experiments. We played some Bodhi Meditation’s practice music for the children to listen. Through a short period of mediation, many easily distracted children were able to improve their memory, concentration, imagination, creativity and wisdom. It also helps to alleviate adolescent obesity and other health related problems.

問:「禪修為什麼能帶來健康的效果呢?」(2017年9月16日)

十幾年前,我剛開始在溫哥華傳授禪修的時候,不同文化、種族的人也都問過我這個問題。當時我用了一個很簡單、很粗淺的方法做了一個提示:「用一個透明的桶,到河流裡盛一桶水上來,注意觀察,通常過了兩個小時之後,泥沙等重的東西會沉到水底、輕的東西會漂到水面、而中間的那一層水則相對比較乾淨,我們只要擷取中間的部分,就能得到相對乾淨的水了。」
.
而禪修的最初過程也是如此,因為,咱們大腦的清淨與否,與我們的身體健康有著絕對的關係。但是該如何通過「禪修」,讓身體調整成平衡的狀態,讓身體方方面面都能恢復健康呢?

Ten years ago, when I first started teaching meditation in Vancouver, I was often asked this question by people of different cultures and ethnic groups. I used a very simplistic way to illustrate: “Fill a transparent pail with a bucket of water from the river and observe. Usually after two hours, the heavier particles like mud and sand will sink to the bottom while lighter particles will float to the water surface, leaving the middle layer of water relatively clean and clear.”

The same is true for meditation. When our mind is tranquil, our physical health will improve. So how can we gain health and balance in life through meditation?

有同修問我:「怎樣讓我的股票不跌呢?」 

我說:
「就像海水,你坐在海岸邊上,海水隨時漲起來,隨時消下去。這個就叫做自然規律。股票市場也是這樣,因為那麼多人參與的本身,它就形成了個人無法操控的一個現象。就像海一樣,它已經脫離了某一個人的操控,所以它隨時起起落落。
因此,要想不在股票市場上輸,就不要買。

所以我們做事情要能『不貪』,不貪就會贏,貪就會虧。舍才能得。見好趕快收,很簡單的道理。那為什麼會虧呢?貪心太大。」

(Greed) can be detrimental…

A practitioner asked me: “ How do I ensure my stock prices do not fall?”

I replied:
“Just like the tides, when you sit on a coast near the ocean, you will notice constant tidal fluctuations. This is the law of nature. The same applies to the stock market. Many people participate in the stock market and there are many different factors affecting stock prices. Stock prices are definitely not within anyone’s control, just like the tides. Hence, do not buy any stock if you do not wish to suffer losses in the stock market.

When we are doing things, do not let our greed get the better of us. We will not suffer a loss if we are not greedy. Excessive greed eventually destroys us. In order to gain, we must be willing to give.

We must have the wisdom to know when to stop pursuing for more gains when we are still in a winning position and not continue to let ourselves be pushed by our greed into a pit. Though this is a simple principle that is easily understood, many people still continue to suffer losses. Why is that so? Because of greed; the desire to gain more.”

身體要健康,先學會放鬆。
我們每天辛勤的工作,到了晚上都需要徹底的休息。藉由休息和放鬆,讓我們的細胞透過充足的休息,啟動身體的自動「修復功能」,自行修復有問題的地方,恢復精神與健康,我們才能夠繼續努力嶄新的一天。

然而除了睡眠與休息外,你也許不知道還有另一種方法,那就是「禪修」。

「禪修」能幫助我們更有效的放鬆,讓能量快速充滿全身,甚至讓我們擁有超靈感的準確預知能力,增強我們在各種決策判斷中更精準,更有效率的去執行。因為我們的身體隨時都在進行「重建」與「破壞」兩種模式。當我們放鬆的時候,腦波是α波,細胞會進行修補與再生;若我們長時間處在緊張狀態中,身體的各大免疫系統就容易出錯,使老化加速,嚴重的話細胞會壞死變質,產生疾病。

也許有人會問:「禪修的目的,僅僅只是為了放鬆嗎?」
事實上,禪修的目的遠不止於此。一個人如果懂得放鬆,就能有顆寧靜的心與清澈的頭腦。所以,唯有身心放鬆了,我們才能達到身心的平和,清淨自在了,我們才能接收到最高的能量,達到更全方位的身心健康。

「禪修」是所有強身的方法中,給予我們最全方位的幫助,俗話說「吃飯皇帝大」,但我認為「禪修皇帝大」,也許沒有親身體驗過的你(妳),還真無法理解這個概念。

所以,與其每天聽我嘮嘮叨叨的說,不如你自個兒親身來體驗體驗吧!

[ Understanding Meditation ] .
To be healthy, we must first learn to relax.
We work hard every day and a thorough rest at night is essential. Through resting and relaxing, our cells enter a “self-recovery process,” healing problematic areas of our body and revitalizing our spirit and health. This enables us to continue working hard for the next brand new day.
.
Besides sleeping and resting to rejuvenate, another way is [ Meditation ].
.
Meditation helps us to relax more effectively, lets our body gain energy quickly, allows us to develop better predictive ability, and enhances our decision-making and implementations skills. Our body is always either in a “reconstruction” or “destruction” mode. When we relax, the brain waves are in alpha mode and the body cells will self-repair and regenerate. If we are in a constant state of tension, the body’s immune system will be easily weaken, accelerating our aging, and in severe cases developing diseases.
.
Some may ask, “Is the purpose of Meditation solely for relaxation?” In actually fact, its purpose goes far beyond that. A relaxed person has a quiet heart and a clear mind. With peace, purity and ease can then one receive the highest energy and attain physical and mental health.
.
Meditation is one of the comprehensive ways to help us stay healthy. There is a saying: “When eating, I am the emperor”. I think it would be better to say: “When meditating, I am the emperor.” For those yet to personally experience Meditation may find this concept difficult to understand. Hence, instead of just listening to me, experience Meditation yourself.
.

人為什麼會生病?
很多的疾病,是因為不通暢所造成的,所以中國的醫學就講到,人體如果通暢,就不會有疼痛;疼痛,就可能是因為某部分堵塞住了,就是所謂的「痛則不通,通則不痛」。
.
其實,很多人的疾病,都是因為不良的生活飲食,和各種不良習慣所造成的。例如有的人心臟不舒服,卻還要去賭博,賭贏了,高興也可能會心臟病發作,因為心臟不好的人經不起大悲大喜。尤其是輸了很多錢之後,心臟病最容易發作,即使沒有心臟病的人去賭博,都容易落下心臟的疾病!所以,有好多健康的問題,是因為生活中不良的行為而造成,若想要真正好起來,需要去培養健康的生活習慣,迴避或改掉不健康的習慣,才能使身體更健康。

而想改掉不良的習慣,就好比要將一盆混濁的水變得清澈、乾淨,這個過程也叫水的淨化,與過濾的過程。也就是我們必須改掉積累已久的毛病、脾氣,淨化身心靈的過程,當身心清淨了,健康自然就獲得了。

本週五我將與您一起,認識淨化身心的過程與方法,願大家都能得到健康,獲得幸福與快樂,然後讓我們一起大喊:「健康,就是勝利!!!」

Why do we fall sick?
Many illnesses are caused by blockages in the body. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, it affirms that if our body are cleared of blockages, we will not experience bodily pains and aches. It is common saying that ‘pain means blockages; removing blockages means removing pain’.
.
Actually, many illnesses are caused by bad choices of diet and lifestyle habits. For example, some people may have a weak heart, yet they choose to gamble. If they win, it may trigger a heart attack as people with weak hearts are unable to withstand extremities of emotions. Should they lose, they may get a heart attack. Even if you do not have a heart condition, it is easy to trigger a heart-related illness due to extreme anxieties when gambling..
As many health issues are caused by unfavourable lifestyle habits, we can become healthier if we cultivate a healthy lifestyle and avoid or change our unhealthy habits.
.
Changing ill habits is akin to cleaning a bowl of dirty water, turning it into clear and clean water. Changing bad old habits and temper can clean our body and soul. When our body and soul are pure, we will naturally achieve good health.

This Friday, we shall understand the methods to purify our body and mind together.
