In the vast ocean, tides rise and fall, just like life. At times, we enjoy success and sometimes setbacks and failures. We may never be able to walk out from some failures and setbacks.

Fear

Is fear holding you back from trying new things?
“Previously, I lacked self-confidence. Whenever people looked at me, I would quiver with fear.”

Suffering caused by physical pain and sickness

Do you fear causing inconvenience to your family members because of your physical illness and pain?
Are at your wit’s end when you witness the suffering of your family members?

Everyone who face difficulties crave for transformation.

Haoru Chen, 18 years old

Due to lack of self-confidence, she would shiver with anxiety whenever she exchanged glances with people.
She overcame her own psychological obstacle and bravely walks up the stage.

Huangsi Li (wife), 55 years old

She suffered from severe water retention after undergoing an operation. She also had breathing difficulties and was overweight. For more than 10 years, she tried different medical treatments but nothing could cure her.
After attending an elementary retreat, she recovered from sickness and pain. She no longer suffers from water retention and lost 11 Kg. Her breathing has also became smoother.

Yamei Liao, 80 years old

Due to deterioration of her knee joint, she could not walk. For the past two years, she had been relying heavily on wheel chairs.

On the second day of her retreat, she left her wheel chair and walked with the help of others.

Fu Jincheng Fu, 73 years old

He suffered from Parkinson’s disease and had difficulty coordinating his limbs. Friends referred to him as a vintage car since he was slow in moving around. His family member prayed for blessings every day hoping that dharma brother Jincheng could regain his health and mobility.

Subsequently, he was able to walk faster, just like a car with new engine.

Grandmaster JinBodhi:

During my advanced stage of self-cultivation, I discovered my own health and happiness couldn’t bring me happiness. My aspiration is for everyone to gain health and happiness.

Hence I made a vow to dedicate my entire life to helping others by imparting my meditation techniques, dharma teachings and wisdom to everyone who has an affinity with me. I hope that all can enjoy good health, prosperity and happiness.

清晨,我睜開眼睛看了看鬧鐘,五點二十分,「耶,太棒了! 」 我的心裡湧起一陣陣舒暢的喜悅。每天早上起床後,看到鬧鐘的時針指向五點,我就感到無比的開心和滿足。

讀到這裡,您一定會覺得,我是一個充滿幸福感的人。但從前的我根本不是這樣。從前的我,抑鬱、煩躁、失眠、悲傷,彷彿被困在一個極痛苦的漩渦裡,怎麼都逃不出來…..。
.
未接觸菩提禪修之前,失眠曾經困擾了我很久。那時候,每天晚上睡下之後,凌晨三點就會醒來,醒來後再也無法入睡。早上五點半,我需要起床準備上班,從凌晨三點到五點的這段時間,我就在床上翻來覆去、輾轉難眠。失眠讓我很痛苦,我不知道我為什麼會失眠,我只知道這種痛苦的感覺讓人窒息、讓人絶望。

對我來說,人生的痛苦遠遠不止是失眠。打小,抑鬱的情緒一直糾纏著我,最痛苦的時候,我曾經用刀割自己的手臂。那個時候,我不知道自己為什麼會那麼做,只是覺得內心很痛苦。長大後,我知道我患有輕度抑鬱症,儘管我不再有極端的行為了,但是痛苦仍然伴隨著我。我不知道該怎樣向別人傾訴我的苦,也不知道該怎樣給自己的痛苦找一條出路。而唯一的出路和解決方法,就是讓自己忙碌起來。所以我總是讓自己處於忙碌的狀態。我忙於工作、忙於交朋友、健身、跳舞、旅行……

我的確能夠從這些娛樂中獲得快樂。
但是快樂非常短暫,當我結束旅行,再回到現實生活中時,我發現我的生活又回到了原來的軌道,我經常一個人哭泣,我覺得自己沒救了,沒有希望了,快樂根本就不屬於我,我已經無能為力了……

3月10日的早上,我的心情糟透了,在開車去上班的路上,我覺得呼吸都非常困難,我又陷入跟往常一樣的痛苦之中無法自拔……我已經沒有辦法再繼續這樣的生活,甚至無法忍受這樣的折磨了!我告訴自己,我受夠了,我一定要找個辦法讓自己快樂起來!可是誰又能來救我呢?

也許是我內心的呼喚得到了回應,就在那一天的下午,我沒有目標的在街上游走,突然看到一個標語吸引住我:「菩提禪修帶給你健康、快樂。」 「健康、快樂!」,這不就是我一直在尋求的嗎?於是我走進菩提禪堂,並報名了菩提禪修健身班。

當上課到了第四天,我覺得自己的眼前變亮了,回到家,更不再像從前那樣總是莫明的想哭。原來,大光明把我的憂鬱症帶走了,我開心得不得了。「健身班」第五天,在修練大光明時,我感覺自己擁抱到了大光明的能量。那天回到家,我把自己所有恨過的人,將她們的照片找了出來,看著那些曾經傷害過自己的人,我發現自己竟然不再恨他們了。看著照片中他們的笑臉,我甚至回憶起跟大伙兒一起時,曾經的快樂時光。

當我決定原諒她們的時候,我發現自己真正放下了,我的心變得好輕鬆,歡喜從內心深處升起,一股暖流就這樣將我的憂鬱症給沖散了。

現在的我,每天晚上睡得像個嬰兒一樣,很沉,很香甜。
我的睡眠問題奇蹟般的好轉了。自從健身班後,我開始重新面對自己,接受生活給予我的一切,我的心態、心情、想法、以及看問題的角度也都得到了改變,心打開了,我開始發掘生活的意義和美好,學著愛生活,愛自己。我學會了接受和放下,學會了原諒和感恩,也學會了堅強和慈悲。

快樂其實很簡單,感謝禪修讓我學會了感恩,師父的開示,讓我身心受益,我學會了用一種新的態度,看待人生。」

Finding back her forgotten self and also happiness in the process

This is the story of Nattalia from New York Meditation Centre. Despite only being in her twenties, she has long suffered from an extreme case of insomnia, which affected her life greatly. I am extremely happy that she has managed to regain her happiness, confidence and health through Bodhi Meditation and I sincerely hope that others like her can find happiness in their lives too.

At the ring of the alarm clock, I woke up and it was 5.20am. “Great! Great!” I exclaimed inside me with joy. When I wake up every morning and see that the hour hand of the clock points at 5, I will be overjoyed and my heart is filled with a sense of satisfaction and achievement.

At this point of reading, you must be thinking that I am and have been a very happy and blessed person. However, it was not like this before. In the past, I suffered from depression, worries, insomnia, so much sadness that one cannot imagine and I was not able to get myself out of it….

Prior to Bodhi Meditation, I had insomnia for a long time. Every night I would fall asleep till 3 am and thereafter I would toss in bed for almost 2 hours or more and many times not able to get back to sleep. I would stay wide awake till 5.30am where I would need to get ready for work. I was so troubled by insomnia and had the least idea or clue as to why I had to suffer from the pain of inability to sleep. I became depressed and felt helpless as well as hopeless about the state I was in.

My insomnia led to depression. The pain of suffering went beyond imagination that I started to use a blade to cut my wrist. The extreme manifestation of pain and frustration was not something anyone can comprehend and I found no one to confide to. I decided to keep myself busy at all times, may it be at work, social, exercise, dancing, traveling ……..

In the hope that I find happiness through these activities

However the results were not lasting. For instance when traveling was over, reality returned and I went back to my old self where I felt hopeless and would cry for no reasons. Happiness did not belong to me and I was totally helpless…

On the morning of March 10, I was feeling extremely rock bottom and was having difficulty in catching a decent breath. I almost gave up as the pain of suffering was unbearable. At that very moment, I was determined to find a solution to stop the prolonged suffering and I wondered who could really help me?

Maybe my internal calling got me a respond. On that very afternoon, I was drawn to a signage “Bodhi Meditation brings Health and Happiness”
It immediately attracted me to walk towards the Bodhi Meditation Centre to register for the class as I knew Health and Happiness is something I am in search of desperately.

On the 4th day of the class, I felt that my eyes sparkled and brightened. When home, I no longer cry or tear without reason. It came to my realization that the Great Illumination Meditation had helped to remove the depressed feeling and frustration I used to experience for a long period of time. On the 5th day of class, I felt that I have gotten the powerful energy of the Greater Illumination during the practice in class and it overwhelmed me. Upon reaching home that day, I went through the photographs of those people whom I had hurt or been hurt or even once hated, I realized that I no longer had that anger or hatred towards them anymore. In fact, looking at the smiles of their faces in the photographs brought back happy memories of moments I shared with them.

Once I decided to forgive and let bygones be bygones, My heart felt lighter and relaxes. The warmth that followed magically wiped out all feelings of depression bottled all these years in me. I felt relieved instantly and happiness filled my heart.

Now I could sleep soundly like a baby every night with sweet dreams.

The quality of my sleep improved tremendously. After attending the class, I am renewed. I accepted challenges in life with positive strife. My outlook in life, my mood, my thoughts changed for the better and I could be more receptive towards what life presents itself. I learnt to be positive, forgiving, thankful and handled situations and people with more compassion. I love myself and my life.
Being happy is simple. I begin to adopt a new perspective in life. I am thankful to benefit from the teachings of Master Jin.

有同修問我:「怎樣讓我的股票不跌呢?」 

我說:
「就像海水,你坐在海岸邊上,海水隨時漲起來,隨時消下去。這個就叫做自然規律。股票市場也是這樣,因為那麼多人參與的本身,它就形成了個人無法操控的一個現象。就像海一樣,它已經脫離了某一個人的操控,所以它隨時起起落落。
因此,要想不在股票市場上輸,就不要買。

所以我們做事情要能『不貪』,不貪就會贏,貪就會虧。舍才能得。見好趕快收,很簡單的道理。那為什麼會虧呢?貪心太大。」

Do not be caught up in our own greed and fall into a pit

(Greed) can be detrimental…

A practitioner asked me: “ How do I ensure my stock prices do not fall?”

I replied:
“Just like the tides, when you sit on a coast near the ocean, you will notice constant tidal fluctuations. This is the law of nature. The same applies to the stock market. Many people participate in the stock market and there are many different factors affecting stock prices. Stock prices are definitely not within anyone’s control, just like the tides. Hence, do not buy any stock if you do not wish to suffer losses in the stock market.

When we are doing things, do not let our greed get the better of us. We will not suffer a loss if we are not greedy. Excessive greed eventually destroys us. In order to gain, we must be willing to give.

We must have the wisdom to know when to stop pursuing for more gains when we are still in a winning position and not continue to let ourselves be pushed by our greed into a pit. Though this is a simple principle that is easily understood, many people still continue to suffer losses. Why is that so? Because of greed; the desire to gain more.”

──改善文明病的最佳良方

久坐在辦公桌前的上班族,身體長期維持一個姿勢,肌肉時時處於繃緊的狀態。尤其是,長時間握著滑鼠或者寫字,手臂特別容易感到不舒服。還有髖關節,也就是大腿和臀部連接的部位,也容易因為久坐而呈現疲勞的狀態。當夏天來臨時,大家長時間坐在有風的空調屋裡,疲勞加上受風,時間久了,就很容易出現疼痛。

對於這種情況,解決的辦法有很多種,比如調整坐姿,每隔一段時間起來活動一下身體等等,都是很好的方式。除了這些以及前段時間提到的打滾放鬆法,還有一個方法——大禮拜。

大禮拜也是菩提禪修的主要修持方法之一。當我們在做大禮拜時,五體投地,全身貼到地面,我們的身體從手臂到整個脊柱就得到了舒展和放鬆,不僅骨骼得到了放鬆,還能夠疏通經絡,對於消除久坐產生的小肚腩也很有效,所以說上班族很適合做大禮拜。

德來:做大禮拜比做復健效果好太多了!

我的頸椎經電腦斷層確定第三椎跟第四椎已變形,醫生建議我不能再工作,要求做復健,否則當二節碰到一起,後果很嚴重。在經過復健一段時間後,效果並不明顯,改善很慢。
在念佛班第二天唱誦觀世音菩薩聖號時,我一個人靜靜地來到旁邊,真誠恭敬地做大禮拜。做完一小時後,渾身流汗,好舒服,站起來準備收工時,發現我的頸椎可以輕鬆的轉動了,好輕,沒有了以前的緊繃、僵直感,而且從手臂一直到指尖都是麻麻的。當下好興奮,回去後迫不及待跟太太講這個好消息,「做大禮拜比做複健效果好太多了,大禮拜太神奇了!」從那天起我只要一有空就做大禮拜,我的頸椎也沒有再出現以前的緊繃、僵直感。

Do you feel fatigued?
─ ─ the best ways to alleviate illnesses due to our way of life.
White-collar workers who sit in offices are used to maintaining the same posture for long periods of time. Their muscles and nervous system are constantly in a tight state. In particular, the arms tend to feel especially stiff or tense due to long hours of typing on the keyboard and holding a computer mouse. The hip area, together with the thighs and bum area, can also show signs of fatigue easily due to sitting in the same position for too long. During the hot summer, office workers may be sitting for long hours in air-conditioned rooms; joints are prone to arthritis pain as they are exposed to the cold air.
There are many solutions in such situations, such as moving the body or adjusting your sitting position from time to time. I have also mentioned previously about the “wallowing on the ground” (rolling on the ground) method. Other than these methods, there is another very effective way, that is, doing prostration.
Prostration is one of the main teachings in Bodhi Meditation. When we prostrate, our face and body is flat on the ground, stretched out and relaxed; the stretching is from our fingertips to our arms and the entire spine down to the toes.
When we prostrate, not only are our bodies relaxed, our meridians (acupuncture points) are cleared and this allows vital energy to flow through the body effectively. Prostration is also very effective at eliminating protruding belly fat arising from a sedentary lifestyle. Hence, it is very suitable for people who work in offices.

De-lai : Doing prostration is way more effective than physical rehabilitation …
During a computer tomography, it was revealed that there was deformation in my third and fourth spinal vertebrae. The doctor recommended that I should not work and should go for rehabilitation. Otherwise, the consequences could be dire if the two vertebrae braced against each other. After a period of rehabilitation, the effect was still not obvious with very slow improvement.
On day two of the prostration class, while the music of Guanyin Bodhisattva was being played, I sincerely and respectfully did my prostration. After an hour of prostration, my body felt so comfortable and relaxed even though I perspired a lot. While I was standing up to do the closing exercise, I realized my spine could easily bend and was no longer as stiff and tight as before. I felt some numbness from the arm to the fingertips. I couldn’t conceal my excitement when I went back to tell my wife the good news:” Practicing prostration is indeed better than rehabilitation. The effect is amazing!”. From that day onwards, I practiced prostration as and when time permits. My spinal problems are now resolved, and my spine is no longer as stiff and tense as before.

在一個農村裡,有一位平凡的母親,家裡很貧窮,她的兒子後來很爭氣的考上了狀元,兒子做了官,又被皇帝大臣家的小姐看上,日子過得風光又舒服,但他卻沒有返鄉接母親一起去城裡享福。

這位母親因為思子心切,就到城裡去找兒子,因為兒子是高官,母親一下就找著了,兒子看到自己的母親又醜又髒,穿得破破爛爛,覺得實在臉上無光,所以就不認自己的母親。富家小姐是個知書達禮的人,知道為人子女必須孝養父母的道理,便勸說夫婿,告知父母恩重難報的偉大恩德。狀元本性是善良的,最後悔改了,他知道自己錯了,不該貪那一面虛榮,連基本善良的人性都失去了,因此與美麗賢慧的夫人迎回母親,共同孝養天年。正所謂:「兒不嫌母醜,狗不嫌家貧。」

我們每天在母親無微不至的關懷下,往往感受不到這份濃濃的愛,反而不如一個跟你沒有血緣關係的人,給過你的一次幫助那麼清晰,對於母親給我們的「愛」僅剩嘮叨。其實,有些人生中的障礙,有些疾病,是因為你無德、不孝、無情、無義的行為而引發的。

所以,我們今天生命的好壞,與我們的祖宗有著直接的關係,與我們的父母有著直接的關係。要想做一個有福氣的人,就要懂得知恩圖報。今天在母親節的偉大日子裡,我希望大家一起來為母親祝福、祈福、用一顆感恩的心,誦念得再真誠一些。

Notice on Online Global Group Practice (Saturday, May 13, 2017)

In a remote village, there lived an ordinary mother and her son. They were very poor but the son was very diligent. During one of the state examinations, he performed really well and earned himself the top scholar position and was subsequently offered a high ranking official role with the court. With luck on his side, he even married the daughter of a wealthy and powerful court official. Though he led a comfortable life, he did not return to his village to fetch his elderly mother to the city.

As his mother missed her son dearly, she decided to search for him in the city. Given his position in the court, she managed to locate him without much effort. The son, upon seeing his shabbily dressed mother, felt ashamed and refused to acknowledge her. The daughter-in-law was a virtuous lady with good upbringing. Upon seeing this, she reminded her husband on the importance of filial piety and persuaded him to take care of his mother. The son, a kind person by nature, finally realized his mistake and regretted his earlier reaction. Together with his wife, they brought the mother home to live with them for the rest of her life.

We tend to take our mother’s endless love for granted but remember clearly the little helps rendered by others. In fact many of our life’s obstacles and diseases are due to our lack of virtues, kindness or filial piety.
Our destiny today is closely linked to our ancestors and parents. If we want to enjoy good fortune, we must know how to repay our parents for their kindness.

With Mother’s day approaching, I hope everyone will join me this coming Saturday to chant for our mother. Let us chant with sincerity and gratitude. May they be blessed with health, auspiciousness and happiness!
