長年輪椅的日子,成了愛美的她,噩夢的開始!

因為一份緣,她遇見了翻轉生命的一本書-《禪修與健康》雜誌!
因為一份信心和勇氣,禪修精勤不懈,從此翻轉了她的輪椅人生。

我是護童,年齡64歲,我的工作是退休貨物校對員。
.
2010年6月,我在工作地點校對出貨的時候,被一輛堆高機撞擊,導致左腿的兩根大骨──脛骨和腓骨折斷。第2天,醫生為我做了小腿外側手術,清理小腿裡面的瘀血和碎骨。11天後又做了小腿內側手術,植入輔助骨骼復位的兩條鐵片和12粒螺絲,歷時6個小時。
.
由於我的骨折有別於普通的骨傷,手術過後,醫生讓我24小時穿著「保護鞋」。在這期間,我只能坐在輪椅上,而且一坐就是整整1年!
.
熬過了1年的輪椅生活,我開始遵從醫生的建議,借助柺杖學走路。長時間缺乏鍛鍊,使我的左腿虛弱無力,走起路來寸步難行,左腿就像廢腿一樣,只能勉強靠右腿的力量來支撐。
.
2013年1月,我先生送我去理髮時途經一間健康飲食店,順手拿了擺在店外的《禪修與健康》雜誌。回家閱讀後,我被裡面的內容深深吸引了,尤其是大禮拜減肥法,正是我夢寐以求的減肥資訊!我在家待了兩年多,因為缺乏運動,體型不斷地橫向發展,如今有了減肥法寶,我還等什麼呢?
.
去新加坡菩提禪堂學習大禮拜之後,我開始在家裡練習。剛開始做大禮拜時,我渾身痠痛,只能做15分鐘,後來能慢慢堅持到半小時,只是胃酸會不時跑出來,有些難受。但為了減肥夢,我繼續堅持下去。
.
3個月後,效果真的很顯著,我的體重成功從68公斤減到了60公斤!
.
2015年5月,我參加了「八卦內功」百日築基課程。我知道這對我的左腿是個很大的挑戰。開始走「八卦」時,我因為左腿無力,無法掌握平衡,整個身體搖搖晃晃。堅持了約3個月後,我的左腿變得有力了!百日築基完成時,我的腿傷基本上好了,走路很穩,也很快,與常人無異。
.
經過不斷地禪修,我不但腿傷迅速好起來,行動自如,而且還神采奕奕,充滿了活力,照看孫子、煮飯完全不覺得累。如今,我仍然在努力地禪修,並且成為了禪堂的志工,每一天都過得很充實、很幸福!我知道,這些福氣都來源於菩提禪修!

Her dreams crumbled when she met with an accident. Life on a wheelchair was a nightmare for the health and beauty conscious. She chanced upon the magazine that transformed her life – Meditation & Health magazine!

She turned over her life bound to a wheelchair with confidence, courage and perseverance in practicing Bodhi meditation.

Lets see HuTong’s journey to health.

I am HuTong, 64 years old. I was a cargo checker before I retire.

It was in June 2010 when I was knocked down by a forklift while checking the cargo. Two main bones of my shin and calf of my left leg were broken. On the second day after the accident, the doctor performed a surgery to clean the clotted blood and bone fragments on the surface of my left calf bone. Eleven days later, I was operated on for 6 hours to implant 2 iron plates and 12 screws to restore the bone position. As my bone fracture was very serious, the doctor required me to wear “protective shoes” 24 hours everyday. I was bound to the wheelchair for a year during this period of time.

After an agonizing year of life on the wheelchair, I took the doctor’s suggestion to practice walking with crutches. Due to lack of use of my leg muscles, it was weak and had no strength. Every step I took was difficult. My left leg was not functioning and I could only rely on my right leg.

In January 2013, my husband drove passed a health restaurant when sending me to the hairdresser. I randomly picked up a Meditation & Health magazine outside the shop. I brought It home, read it and was deeply absorbed in the contents within, especially the article on losing weight with prostration which was exactly what I needed. I had been staying home for the past 2 years without any exercise. I grew fat and huge in size. Prostration seemed like a good method to lose weight and I could not wait to practice it.

I learnt Prostration at the Bodhi Meditation Center in Singapore and begun practicing at home. Initially, I could only practice 15 minutes and my whole body was sore and painful. Later, I progressed to half hour practice. Sometimes, acid reflux makes me uncomfortable. But to realize my dream of losing weight, I persevered.

After 3 months of prostration practice, my weight dropped from 68 to 60 kilograms!

In May 2015, I joined the 100-day foundation retreat for Energy Bagua. I knew it would be a challenge for my left leg. My entire body was shaking and I could not balance with my frail left leg when practicing Energy Bagua. However, after 3 months of practice, I felt my leg was stronger and on completion of the 100 days, my leg injuries recovered. I could walk steadily and fast like normal.

Through the meditation practice, my legs recovered quickly and I was able to move freely and easily. I became vibrant and energetic. Taking care of my grandchild and cooking chores are not tiring anymore. Now, I continue to practice meditation and volunteer at the center. I am contented and happy everyday. I know all my good fortune comes from Bodhi Meditation!

After an agonizing year of life on the wheelchair, I took the doctor's  suggestion to practice walking with crutches.  Due to lack of use of my leg muscles, it was weak and had no strength.  Every step I took was difficult.  My left leg was not functioning and I could only rely on my right leg.
 
In January 2013, my husband drove passed a health restaurant when sending me to the hairdresser.  I randomly picked up a Meditation & Health magazine outside the shop.  I brought It home, read it and was deeply absorbed in the contents within, especially the article on losing weight with prostration which was exactly what I needed.  I had been staying home for the past 2 years without any exercise.  I grew fat and huge in size.  Prostration seemed like a good method to lose weight and I could not wait to practice it.
 
I learnt Prostration at the Bodhi Meditation Center in Singapore and begun practicing at home.  Initially, I could only practice 15 minutes and my whole body was sore and painful. Later, I progressed to half hour practice. Sometimes, acid reflux makes me uncomfortable. But to realize  my dream of losing weight, I persevered.
  
After 3 months of prostration practice, my weight dropped from 68 to 60 kilograms!
 
In May 2015, I joined the 100-day foundation retreat for Energy Bagua.  I knew it would be a challenge for my left leg.  My entire body was shaking and I could not balance with my frail left leg when practicing Energy Bagua.  However, after 3 months of practice, I felt my leg was stronger and on completion of the 100 days, my leg injuries recovered.  I could walk steadily and fast like normal.
  
Through the meditation practice, my legs recovered quickly and I was able to move freely and easily. I became vibrant and energetic.  Taking care of my grandchild and cooking chores are not tiring anymore.  Now, I continue to practice meditation and volunteer at the center. I am contented and happy everyday.  I know all my good fortune comes from Bodhi Meditation!

Do you know the art of gilding repousse craft? What are its outstanding characteristics?
The ‘Gilded Buddha Statue’ began production in the Han Dynasty, gained prominence during the Sui and Tang Dynasties, and endured its legacy through to the Ming and Qing Dynasties, spanning a history of more than 2,000 years.

‘Gilded Bronze Buddha’ refers to a Buddha statue that was first cast in copper or bronze and then gilded on its surface.
‘Gilt’ is a process that uses gold in heated mercury, so that it melts and is then applied to the surface of the bronze Buddha statue. After the hi-temperature heated mercury evaporates, the gold is firmly plated onto the surface of the bronze Buddha statue.

The Buddha statue that has been gilded radiates with a lustrous golden body, illuminates with exceptional nobility, and glitters in brilliant hues.
The gilt provides anti-oxidation protection, does not rust over a century, and encompasses other preservation qualities and outstanding characteristics.

有一個傻小子拜師學武藝,每天在城牆上苦練一指禪。
.
三年之後,有一個人向他的師父挑戰,三拳兩腳就把師父給打傷了,幾個師兄弟上,都打不過這個挑戰者,徒弟都被挑戰者打敗了。結果這個傻徒弟一上去,就往挑戰者的腦門點了一下,結果點出一個洞來。
.
從此這個傻小子就以大力金剛指出名了,很多人都跑去跟他學武。
.
他鄰居的孩子就說:「他從前是個草包,是個笨蛋!小時候我老把他打得鼻青臉腫,沒想到他練出大力金剛指來,我要超過他。」
.
於是,鄰居的孩子去拜傻小子為師,想學功夫超越他。
傻小子:「你每天在城牆上每個磚點一下,但記住了,每個磚一天只能點一下。」
.
但這個鄰居的孩子為了快速出功夫,每個磚一天點十下。
半年後,他的指頭竟然斷了。
.
看完上面的故事,大家有沒有明白甚麼道理?
有時候求好心切的結果,反而會造成反效果。所以我們平時要督促自己保持清淨、無所執著的這種思維方式,因為當過分執著時,不但無功,反而還會有錯。
.
所以,修行不在於真正快速得法,而在於一份堅持、恆心與真誠的意念,自然就能出功夫。

The secret of the powerful Vajra Finger

There was once a simple-minded boy who learned martial arts from a master. Every day, he would use his finger to poke the city wall once. One fine day three years later, somebody came to challenge his master to a duel. The master as well as the rest of his disciples were all beaten and injured by this challenger. When it came to this simple-minded boy’s turn, he simply used his finger to poke the challenger’s skull and the skull broke, killing the challenger.

From then on, the simple-minded boy became famous for his powerful Vajra finger. Many people came to learn from him.

One of his neighbor’s kids exclaimed: “He’s a dummy, a stupid boy! When we were young, I always managed to beat him until his face was all bruised and swollen. How can he master the powerful Vajra finger? I must surpass him!”

Hence, he went to seek the simple-minded boy and asked him to be his teacher. He asked the boy for guidance on how to master the skill. The boy replied: “Go and poke at the tiles on the walls of the city every day. Remember that every tile should be poked only once in a day.”

However, in his eagerness to master the skill, the kid poked each tile ten times every day. Within half a year, he broke his finger.

After reading the above story, have you gain any insight?
Sometimes, impatience and eagerness to achieve something will often work towards the contrary and impede our progress. Hence, we need to maintain a clear mind and remind ourselves not to get too attached to an outcome. Obsession with an outcome will often hinder rather than help us.

Therefore dharma cultivation does not focused only on speed, it is about being persistent and sincere in your practice. The skills will naturally come to you.

【穀雨】花仙子傳奇
.
4月20日是春天的最後一個節氣「榖雨」。
穀雨代表著寒冷的天氣即將要結束、夏天就要到了。這個時節雨水漸漸增多,大地雨水豐沛,有利於各種作物的生長,是一年當中,農作最重要的春雨期。
.
「穀雨」還有個非常感人的傳說!
.
民諺:「穀雨過三天,園裡看牡丹!」
.
傳說,在唐代高宗年間,有位叫穀雨的年輕人,水性很好,有一次他的家鄉突然發大水,他憑著這個本領救出了所有的村民,當時還冒著生命危險救出了一株牡丹花,並拜託一位花匠師傅好好地栽養著。
.
幾年後,穀雨的母親生了重病,穀雨一邊要照料母親,一邊忙著掙錢給母親養病,非常辛苦。這時有位美麗的女子,突然出現在他的家裡,並且每天都來幫忙照顧他的母親,穀雨與這位女子日久生情,就在穀雨想與這位姑娘提親的時候,才發現美麗的姑娘原來是位牡丹仙子,而且是幾年前那一場水災,他救出來的那株牡丹花。
.
牡丹仙女和穀雨相約:「待到明年四月八,奴到谷門去安家。」
.
但是,四月八的約定時間到了,卻沒見到牡丹姑娘。穀雨到處找尋,才發現牡丹花仙的仇人「禿鷹」,逼迫牡丹花仙們為其釀酒。花仙們不願取自己身上的血,釀酒供惡賊,被禿鷹抓走了。穀雨為了搭救牡丹姑娘與眾花仙們,闖入魔洞大戰禿鷹,終於戰勝了禿鷹。但是「穀雨」雖然成功救出了眾花仙,卻也同時命喪此戰役中。

從此,在穀雨死的那一天,天空就會下起雨水,所有的牡丹花盛開綻放,以此來紀念穀雨。
.
所以在穀雨這個時節,除了牡丹花會盛開綻放,同時百花盛開,共同歌頌穀雨這個感人的故事。

【Guyu, the 6th solar term】The Legend of Floral Fairy

Guyu, the last solar term in spring falls on April 20th this year. It represents the end of cold weather and the coming of summer. At this time, the rain gradually increases and this abundant rainfall is conducive to the growth of various crops. Hence, Guyu is also the most important time of the year for farming.

There is a touching legend to this solar term!

The saying has it “You can see the peony flowers after three days of Guyu.”

The legend is about a young man named Guyu in the Tang Dynasty. Guyu was a good swimmer. Once, when his hometown was flooded, he saved all the villagers with his talent in swimming. Besides the villagers, Guyu risked his life and saved a pretty peony flower. He asked a floriculturist to take good care of the flower.

Years later, Guyu’s mother had a serious illness. The busy son had to take care of his mother and worked hard to pay for the medical expenses. One day, a pretty maiden suddenly appeared in Guyu’s house. She helped take care of his mother every day. As time passes, the relationship between Guyu and this maiden grew. Just when Guyu wanted to propose to her, he found that she was the fairy of the peony flower which he saved years ago in the flood.

The fairy promised Guyu, “I’ll settle down with the Gu’s family on April 8th next year.”

However, when that time arrives, the fairy did not show up. Guyu searched for her everywhere. He realised that the vulture–the natural enemy of the fairies of peony flowers, was forcing the fairies to brew medicine wine for him. The fairies didn’t want to use their own blood to brew wine for the villain, so the vulture took them away. To save his beloved and other fairies, Guyu broke into the cave and fought with the vulture. He successfully saved the fairies but lost his life in this fight.

Since then, on the day of Guyu’s death every year, it rains and all the peonies along with many kinds of flowers bloom in memory of Guyu and his brave story.
