Generally, the first impression of plastic straws: 「Convenient since we can discard after use.」 Very few people are aware that something as small as straws can cause great environmental pollution.

According to a research conducted by Western environmental groups, the harmful effects caused by straws on marine organisms is on the rise in recent years. As straws are created by non-biodegradable plastic, when straws drifted into the ocean together with other rubbish, marine organisms mistakenly treated them as food and ingested them. Not long ago, Costa Rica rescuers extracted straws from sea turtles’ noses which resulted from their wrong feeding. In reality, humans’ desire for convenience have created an ecological catastrophe, which can be avoided.

Recently, many people in the European Union, England, India etc. have noted this problem and came up with alternative remedies, for instance, exploring straws made from different materials- paper straws, glass straws, what is even more creative is Italian penne straws, bamboo straws etc. To conserve our environment, we can make a conscious and simple effort by reducing the use of plastic straws in our daily lives!
