Sit firm on golden lotus and unmoved by wind from eight directions?

Su Dongpo was a great scholar and renowned literature writer of the Song Dynasty. But his career was bumpy with many ups and downs. During his demotion to Jianbei, Guazhou, he became a good friend to a Buddhist monk whose temple was just across the river from where he was based.
One day, Su Dongpo experienced good feeling after his meditation. He immediately penned down a poem as he felt his body was emitting golden light. He wrote: “Like an awaken one, unmoved by wind from eight directions, sit firmly on a golden lotus and emit brilliant rays from the sky.”
He felt pleased with his masterpiece and sent it to the Buddhist monk for his comment.

Unexpectedly, he received a faint note “Nonsense!” from the monk.

He was furious and immediately rowed a boat across the river to confront the monk.

When he arrived at the temple, he was told not to disturb the monk as the monk had given prior instruction to be left alone. Su Dongpo became more agitated and decided to barge directly into the abbot’s room. When he approached the room and was about to knock the door, he spotted a note on the door. It said – “Unmoved by wind from eight directions but a “nonsense” is enough for you to charged across the river”.

Su Dongpo immediately understood and felt deeply ashamed. His meditation skill and spirituality pale in comparison with the monk.

Meditation is a form of cultivation to develop fortitude. Without such unmoved mental strength, we will not be firm and we will not accomplish much in life.

Today, we shall learn about “The Six Perfections – Part 1”. Let’s explore how we can nurture our fortitude.

Wishing all a fruitful cultivation, health, happiness, prosperity and auspiciousness!

.
People are always accustomed to understand others in their own way. This often causes misunderstandings and even hatred and dislike for one another. They can also get hurt in the process.
.
Let me share a story that took place in Qinghai province, China:
Once, on my way to Qinghai, I saw a moving truck with one of its tires turning abnormally. From experience, I knew that the screws of the wheel had loosened and if it comes off, it could hurt someone else.
I waved to the driver, pointing to his rear tire and signaling him to look at it. The man gave me a stare and scolded me, “Why, you want a free ride?” Apparently, he thought I wanted to take advantage of him. I frowned and shouted, “It’s serious!” He ignored me and drove driving away.
.
Shortly after, the wheel came off and flew towards the hillside. He had to run almost a kilometer to get the wheel from the hillside that was at least 50 meters in height. By the time he climbed down to pick up the heavy tire that weight almost 50 kg, he was too tired to get up. Eventually, I helped him to fit the tire. I said, “Friend, didn’t I try to remind you of your wheel?”
Some people always assume that they are always right when they make judgement or decision. They are not open to other’s opinion. Such mentality and attitude could cloud one’s objectivity and ultimately lead to a bias decision. In more serious case, such wrong decision might even cause harm to them or others.
.
Today, let’s talk about “The Six Perfections – Part 1” and explore how we can break away from accustomed thinking so that it does not affect our objective judgement, thus allowing us to lead a wiser, happier and more harmonious life.
.
Finally, bless all with auspiciousness and peace!

How to keep blessing and fortune for future generations?
.
Once, I met a young man less than thirty of age in the United States. He was very smart and had good upbringing. His father left him a sizable fortune and he managed a large organization in the United States with yearly profits exceeding ten million dollars.
.
But this fellow led a tough life. He worn patched shoes and only patronized cheap food outlets. His watch was an old Shanghai watch his father left him. I could literally see sweat in his watch. Later on, I discovered this young man actually did a great deal of absurd things — visiting casino once every three months. He was a company boss, but he was so poor that he came to me.
.
He asked, “Master, can you give some advice?”
I wrote him Chinese calligraphy, “Working hard to earn money for casino” and said to him, “You are very loyal to the casino!”
He cried and asked me, “How do I hold on to my fortune?”
I said to him, “You need to stop gambling and stop being greedy. Try to accumulate merit for yourself so that you can enjoy longer fortune. Otherwise, your wealth will not last beyond three generations!”
.
Perhaps many people do not gamble. But in their busy life, merit is lost unknowingly through their inappropriate actions and words. Though it is important for us to earn money, it is even more important for us to retain wealth. Only then will fortune truly belong to us!
.
So what can be done to keep this fortune?
.
In this Saturday, we will discuss “The Keys to Buddhist Practice” and explore how we can pass on such fortune to our descendants and future generations.
Finally, I wish all my friends — luck, health, happiness and peace!
.
Like is a form of encouragement, share is the best support.

.Do you have any of these emotional problems? .“I always think too much, indecisive and full of troubling thoughts.” – Sad Kitty“When people around me conduct themselves in a dishonest way, I always get angry and my entire day will be spoilt by such emotion.” –Righteous Calf “Why is my emotion so difficult to manage? I know it’s wrong to blow up but I am unable to control myself. I always regret after losing my temper. What should I do?” –Grumpy Lion.Happiness is indispensable in people’s lives. Yet, with a fast pace of modern life, more people are facing various physical and emotional pressure and annoyance. Are people becoming increasingly unhappy? .I conclude there are several reasons:★. First, people who lose temper tend to have more energy.★.Second, do not eat chili and food that can replenish Qi. For example, egg, meat etc. There will be less internal heat if you consume less of such food. (In addition, try to drink some cooling herbal tea) ★.Third, people who have partial brain blockage tend to lose temper easily. Because of the mental block, they are not able to see things in the right perspective. .Thus meditation is very suitable for bad-tempered people. You will find that through meditation, your relationship with your family members will improve. You will have a harmonious relationship with your colleagues and friends. Now, I welcome you to join me in our discussion on how to create happiness through meditation!.Wishing everyone good luck and happiness!..#SaturdayOnlineGlobalGroupPractice, #LearnToBeHappy, #Meditation, #EmotionalProblem, #InternalHeat, #MasterJinBodhiTeachings

How to overcome troubling thoughts and illnesses?
.
Guided by compassion, our heart broadens to become more magnanimous, just like the sea. Regardless of how dirty the water is, the sea will never stop water from flowing into it. This acceptance and tolerance is similar to Buddha’s great compassion.
.
A lot of illnesses stem from one’s heart, subconscious mind and judgement. A person of compassion will not get hurt easily. For instance, if one is being scolded: “You are as stupid as a pig”, some may think: “Pigs are actually very adorable animals”. With a smile, these people turn around and forget about the incident. On the contrary, some may become furious and even get into a fight.
.
We must use a compassionate and magnanimous heart to tolerate and accept everything. Even though we may not really be compassionate to start with, we can overcome mental obstacles and troubles if we always harbour kind thoughts. When we are free from worries, we will not fall sick. Most of our body’s tumors stem from worries and troubling thoughts.
.
Anger and greed are the greatest causes of tumors in women’s breast. Tumors are actually external growth that result from oppressed emotions. One will only be free from troubling thoughts, sufferings and illnesses when one’s heart is broad and open. Once the door of longevity is opened, all illnesses will disappear.
.
Therefore (compassion) coupled with (Self-cultivation and positive karmic merits) will enable us to lead a healthy, peaceful and happy life.
.
Today let us discuss in (Guide to Meditation )- Part 3 how we can trigger and open the door to happiness and good health.
.
May all gain compassion, health, auspiciousness and happiness!

(Learn to accept graciously and happily)
.
As a popular Chinese saying goes: (A bitter medicine cures the disease. Honest advices may be unpleasant for the ears but they are beneficial to our general well-being.)
.
Humans love to listen to nice words and eat tasty food. The moment they hear honest opinions about their flaws, they get angry and may even have the urge to beat the other person up. As a result when people see you, they will only say pleasantries and words that flatter you. You will no longer be able to hear sincere and honest words. When you cannot see yourself clearly, what will be the outcome? Let me share a story!
.
During warring states period, there was a highly skilled doctor. His name was Bianque.
One day, Bianque went to see Cai Huangong and said: “Your majesty, you have some minor skin diseases, please allow me to treat you.”
Huangong said in displeasure: “I am not ill, please leave.”
After Bianque left, Huangong said to himself: “Doctors like to treat people who are not ill so as to gain credits for themselves!”
.
After ten days, Bianque told Huangong: “Your illness had spread to your muscles. If you do not seek for treatment, it will get worse.”
Again, Huangong ignored Bianque’s words. After another ten days, Bianque continued to warn Huangong when he saw him: “Your illness had spread to your stomach, why do you not trust me, your Majesty?” With these words, Bianque sighed and walked away. Huangong continued to remain indifferent to Bianque’s words.
.
Ten days later, the moment Bianque spotted Huangong from a distance, he immediately started running. Bianque said: “Huangong’s illness had spread to his bone marrow, there is nothing I can do to cure him now. To avoid being beheaded, I can only flee.”
.
Not long after, Huangong started to feel aching in his whole body. He sent his guards to look for Bianque but failed to locate hm. Bianque had run to neighboring Qin country to hide. As Huangong was beyond cure, he eventually passed on.
.
Hence when we hear words that are unpleasant to our ears, we must learn to accept graciously and contemplate whether there is truth in them. Sincere, honest advices are beneficial to us and we must learn to face our problems bravely. Only then would we be able to resolve them.
.
Today let us discuss in Guide to Meditation- Part 3 how we can learn to accept happily and graciously. Only then would we be able to rectify and correct our problems. We will only gain happiness when we are compassionate and brings happiness to people around us.
.
If you like this post, please share. May all lead an auspicious, happy and healthy life!

The essence of good fengshui lies within one’s heart
.
There is such a story:
During ancient times, there was an emperor named Shun. Before he became an emperor, he was known for his virtue, kindness and capability. To test his capability, the emperor then, Yao, ordered Shun to make his way independently out of a jungle within half a year.
.
At that time, jungles were known to be dangerous since they were filled with ferocious animals. Not to mention that Shun had the arduous task to make his way out of the jungle alone. Even an entire team of people may not be able to make their way out of the jungle alive. Moreover, Shun had no weapon to fend for himself. Neither did he have any food with him.
.
Unexpectedly, Shun managed to make his way out of the jungle unscathed within three months. In fact, he was escorted by a lion, the king of the forest and came out together with a group of deers, horses, goats and cows. Shun’s universal love managed to communicate with nature and the Universe.
.
His aura of kindness attracted and brought countless beings together. Yao was satisfied with Shun’s miraculous achievements and decided to marry two of his daughters to Shun and made him his successor.
.
(The greatest fengshui lies within one’s heart, in the form of compassion!)
.
Therefore if you are kind-hearted, your kindness can transform even the most difficult situation into a geomantic treasured site within a few years.
.
Nowadays a lot of people like to engage fengshui master to transform life destiny through fengshui enhancements. In reality, enhancements to fengshui cannot change life’s fundamentals by way of better luck and life destiny. A person can become more auspicious only through accumulating karmic merits by performing charitable deeds and exuding compassionate energy.
.
Today, let us discuss in (Guide to Meditation)- Part 2 how we can learn to be more compassionate and kind in our daily lives through meditation so as to change our fengshui and welcome better life destiny.
.
Please share if you like this post. May all be blessed with good luck and auspiciousness!

Why Sima Yi’s 150 thousand troops lost to Zhuge Liang’s 2,500 soldiers?
.
There is a well-known story “The Strategy of an Empty City” in the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms:
.
During the period of the Three Kingdoms, Sima Yi, the general of Wei’s troops led 150 thousand troops on a battle against Shu’s territory of Xi City. Unfortunately Zhuge Liang had earlier sent his army away and was only left with a handful of weak soldiers. Knowing Shima Yi’s suspicious nature, Zhuge Liang promptly plotted a plan to play against Shima Yi’s weakness.
.
Zhuge Liang ordered his soldiers to remove all flags on the city wall and open the four main gates. He also arranged some soldiers to disguise as civilians to sweep the streets. As for him, he went to the top of the city wall, draped on a crane cloak, lit incense and leisurely played his musical instrument gu-zhen with only two child servants by his side.
.
When Sima Yi reached the city gate, he became suspicious when he saw the gate wide open with some ordinary folks sweeping the floor and Zhuge Liang seated relaxingly at the top of the city wall enjoying his music and incense. He thought, “The opponents must have backup plan!” Hence, he dare not invade the city rashly. Instead, he retreated twenty miles to observe the situation. When he finally realized the truth and returned to the city, General Zhao Yun already led his army back to the city to assist Zhuge Liang. It was then that Sima Yi realized he had been tricked by Zhuge Liang’s strategy of an empty city.
.
As evident, what we see and hear may not be the truth. Be it true or false, we are often misguided by our five senses and may end up making wrong judgements and decisions.
.
Hence, only if we can move beyond our physical senses to make judgement can we see things in their natural form. So how do we have better judgement and be sure that we are on the right path? Let’s discuss further in this Saturday’s “Exploring Enlightenment – Part 1”.
.

The broader the mind, the wider the path
.
Many people share the same feeling, “It is not easy to be a kind person. At times, helping others can lead to misunderstanding!”
So how do we do good deeds and help others?
Let me share a story!!
.
Once upon a time, there was a Taoist temple in a village beside a huge lake in Shangdong. And an elderly Taoist priest lived in the temple.
.
On one particular summer, as the weather was very hot, the Taoist priest strolled to the pavilion beside the lake to enjoy the evening breeze. Suddenly, a toad spirit appeared from the lake and started singing strangely, “Yum, yum, tomorrow I will get to enjoy a sumptuous meal of a four ears!” The elderly priest knew then that the toad spirit was looking forward to his next meal – a human being. He then decided to save the person with four ears.
.
The next day, the elderly priest went early to guard by the side of the huge lake. By noon, the priest was totally drenched in his own perspiration and the floor was scorching hot from the strong sunlight. However, the elderly priest refused to leave and continued guarding.
.
At this moment, he saw a man walking towards the lake from afar. With him, on his head, was a frying wok with two handles. He was using the frying wok as a hat to provide some shelter from the sun.
Suddenly, it dawned on him that the people in Shangdong always describe the two handles of their frying pan as “ears”. He immediately tried to stop the man from advancing towards the lake. However, the man didn’t understand his intention. He pushed the elderly priest to the ground and even kicked him before he eventually left the lake. Though the priest was kicked, he felt very happy as he had saved the life of the man with four ears.
.
At this point, I would like to pause and ask, “If you were the elderly priest and the person you were trying to save kicked and hit you, would your heart be broad enough to want to continue saving this person?”
.
Moral of the story: Only someone who is compassionate and selfless would save others without harboring any hope of return. He will persist even if the person he is trying to save misunderstands him. It takes a broadminded person to do what the priest did.
.
On this coming Saturday, let us discuss “Progress towards Enlightenment” and how we can apply our wisdom and capability to help all people and at the same time elevate our spiritual growth.
.
If you like this post, please share it with your loved ones.
.
May all enjoy a healthy, happy, auspicious and peaceful life!
