【Lidan Zhang】 觀音幫我躲死劫
師父好！今天在溫哥華菩提禪堂聽到一個故事，當傳說般的奇蹟發生在我身邊的人身上時，讓我覺得那麼不可思議而又深受感動。觀世音菩薩成道紀念日就要到了，願和大家分享這個故事：

溫哥華有一位師姐，是越南華僑後裔。她的父親曾經是越南非常著名的醫師，在當地有很高的聲望。當年越南發生內戰時，一方的軍官受傷後特意投醫到他所在的醫院，救死扶傷本就是醫生的職責，所以她的父親毫無遲疑地就去搶救傷員，終於把人從鬼門關救了回來。未曾想，這就得罪了戰亂的另一方，沒多久他的父親被敵對方軍隊以通敵罪抓捕，投入監獄，並且被軍方判處死刑。

死刑期限轉眼即將到來，老醫生束手無措，叫天天不應，叫地地不靈，眼看著就只能冤死刑場。他突然想起自己的老母親一直念叨的觀世音菩薩，說觀世音菩薩救苦救難，誰真心念誦她的名號，祈請她，就能得到她的護佑，轉危為安。他就拼命地在自己的牢房中念誦觀世音菩薩名號，使勁地念，沒日沒夜地念，念著念著自己的眼淚嘩嘩地流下來，真是對自己的命運充滿了恐懼。

第二天一早就是行刑的日子，常規時間早上5點就會有車押送死刑犯去刑場的，結果沒想到這部車在半路上輪胎爆胎了，所以就沒法押送老醫生，只有把他繼續留在牢房裏。老人家在牢房裏繼續念誦觀世音菩薩名號，不停地念，不停地念⋯⋯第二次要來押送他去刑場的車，又不知什麽原因出了問題，結果又沒能把他押去刑場。就這樣來來回回地折騰，老醫生還被關在牢獄中，但是就是沒有被執行死刑。

後來，就在這短短一周的反復折騰中，老醫生的一位熱心朋友，也在外面非常努力地四處奔走為他斡旋，幾經周折，托人去求得上層一位高官的理解，替他出面向軍方解釋清楚這莫須有的“通敵罪”實乃冤枉啊，在這些貴人相助下，老醫生的罪名被洗清，很快就被釋放出來和家人團聚。最終他們一家得以移民來到加拿大，終於安定了下來。
死裏逃生的人生經歷實在是太讓人難忘了，老醫生後來反反復復地跟他的孩子們說，是觀世音菩薩救了他，是他求觀世音菩薩救命的呼聲讓菩薩聽到了。後來他們家裏就一直供奉著觀世音菩薩。

Guanyin Bodhisattva is devoted to help whenever she hear cries for help. No matter what sorrow or agony you may have, as long as you sincerely chant the name of Guanyin Boddhisattva and ask for help, she will be there to help you.

【Lidan Zhang】Guanyin Bodhisattva helped me escape death
Good day Master! I heard a story at our Vancouver Bodhi Meditation Centre today and was extremely moved and inspired by it as it is related to someone near me.
We have a fellow Chinese lady Bodhi practitioner of Vietnamese descent. Her father was a famous medical doctor in Vietnam with good reputation. During the Vietnam War, injured soldiers from one of the warring factions sought medical help from his hospital. As the doctors’ primary role is to save lives, her father did what he had to do without questioning, and saved the injured soldiers’ lives. In doing so, her father had offended the other warring party and was subsequently arrested, jailed, and given a death sentence.
As the day for the execution drew nearer, the doctor was completely helpless and had no recourse to be released but wait for the final day. He suddenly recalled that his mother once said that Guanyin Bodhisattva will help and save those who sincerely chant her name and asked to be protected and saved. The doctor, facing the fear of death, started to chant profusely the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva day and night, sometimes he even wept while chanting, in fear of his own destiny.
On the execution day, the truck that was supposed to pick the doctor up did not arrive at the stipulated time, 5am, as the truck had a punctured tyre. So, the doctor continued to stay in the jail, and waited. While in jail waiting, he continued to chant the name of Guanyin Bodhisattva continuously, as much as he can. The second pick up by the truck was again delayed due to unclear reasons, and the doctor had to wait in jail. For unknown reasons, the pickup never arrive and the doctor stayed in jail, waiting for the final day.
Eventually, during the week of painful waiting in jail, the doctor’s good friend, through numerous maneuvering, managed to seek the understanding of a senior officer who accepted that the charge on the doctor for helping the enemy was not valid, and released the doctor. The doctor finally reunited with his family and they moved to Vancouver for good.
For those who escape death, it must be truly unforgettable. The doctor repeatedly narrated to his children that he was saved by the Guanyin Bodhisattva because he repeatedly chanted her name to seek help and she had heard him. Eventually, the doctor and his family believed and worshipped Guanyin Bodhisattva at home.
