加上全球氣候暖化,近年的夏季年年飆高溫。今天我們迎來了今年的第11個節氣──小暑。

「小暑」顧名思義,就是說這個時節的天氣,來到了有點小熱、卻尚未到達最熱的階段。不過即使如此,在這炎熱的夏季,若是不注重防曬及補水,很有可能會導致中暑,因此在飲食方面,也需要特別注意。

相傳,在小暑這一天是龍宮曬龍袍的日子。因為在小暑的前夕,是一年中氣溫最高,日照時間最長,陽光也最強的日子。大夥兒趕緊將衣櫃中,收藏一年的被子、冬衣都拿出來曬一曬,接受陽光的洗禮、除霉、去濕和殺菌!

那麼這個時節合適吃什麼呢?
很多人直覺會想到色彩紛呈的各種水果,然而除了水果之外,中國傳統上也有「小暑吃藕」的習俗。蓮藕中含有豐富的維他命C及多種礦物質,食用可以清熱、開胃、消食、止瀉、安神,當中的膳食纖維還能促進新陳代謝,對身體很好;但蓮藕性寒,因此體質比較虛寒、脾胃功能較弱的人在食用時,要特別注意分量,不宜多吃。

As the Chinese saying goes: “The day gets hotter by 30% after the Minor Heat solar term.”
Add to the fact that the temperatures are rising globally as a result of global warming, summers just gets hotter year after year. Today is the day of the 11th solar term – Minor Heat.

As its name implies, “Minor Heat” is a time when the weather starts to get a bit hot, yet it is not at the hottest point of the year. Even so, we need to make sure that we apply sunblock and hydrate ourselves with sufficient water in order to avoid getting heatstroke. This is also the time when we need to be more cautious about our diet.

Legend has it that this is the day that the dragon robes in the Dragon Palace are placed out in the sun to dry. This is because in the few days before the Minor Heat solar term, the sun is strong, the days are long and the temperature is high. Hence everybody will rush to bring out their thick blankets and winter wear and place them under the sun to absorb the sunlight which helps to remove the mold, dampness and kill germs!

So what type of food is appropriate for this season?
Many people will instinctively think of colorful fruits. Other than fruits, the Chinese also believe that lotus root is the best food for this solar term. Lotus roots are rich in vitamin C and minerals. According to traditional Chinese beliefs, other benefits of consuming lotus roots include dispelling of heat, appetite stimulation, digestion and calming of the nerves. The rich fibers in it will also aid in metabolism. However, lotus roots are cooling in nature, hence folks who have weaker disposition and folks whose stomach and spleen are not as strong should not consume too much of it.

【菩提養生素食教室】──糯米藕

秋季養生注重養肺,可以多吃白色食物,如白蘿蔔、銀耳、百合、蓮藕等。來和大家分享一道糯米藕,平常在飯館裡吃的糯米藕都是甜的,加了很多的糖,今天咱們來做一道無糖版的糯米藕。

食材:蓮藕2節、糯米半碗、大棗5顆。
.
作法:
1、糯米洗淨,清水浸泡3個小時左右。
2、蓮藕洗淨,去掉外皮。
3、將蓮藕的一端切掉3釐米(千萬別扔)。
4、用筷子將泡好的糯米填進藕洞裡。
5、把剛才切下的藕頭蓋上,用牙籤固定住。
6、把糯米藕放入清水鍋中,水要蓋過蓮藕,再放入大棗。
7、大火煮開,轉文火煮40分鐘。
8、撈出來,稍晾涼後切片擺盤即可。

一道很適合秋季養生的料理,真吃不慣無糖的口味,切片後可以淋上少許的蜂蜜增添甜味。另外,糯米藕燙的時候切容易碎,冷透也又不好吃,所以晾至不燙手就能切片,切藕動作要俐落。有興趣的朋友可以試試!

In Autumn, a good way to maintain health is to focus on strengthening the lungs by consuming more white color food such as white radish, white fungus, bulbus lilii, lotus root etc. We like to share a recipe of lotus root glutinous rice, a dish which is commonly found in restaurants as a sweetened dish. Today, we shall have a sugar-free recipe of lotus root glutinous rice
Ingredients:
lotus root (2 segments), glutinous rice(half a bowl), red dates( 5)
Method:
1. Wash the glutinous rice and soak in water for about 3 hours.
2. Wash the lotus root and peel the skin.
3. Cut off a 3cm portion at the head of lotus root and put aside.
4. Fill the holes of the lotus root with glutinous rice and push the rice down the holes with chopsticks.
5. Attach the 3cm cut portion to cover holes of the lotus root and secure with a toothpick.
6. Put the lotus root glutinous rice into a pot of water, making sure that the water covers the lotus root, and then add red dates into the water.
7. Boil on high heat and turn to medium mode to cook for further 40 minutes.
8. Drain dry, cool it and then slice before serving.
This dish is suitable for maintaining good health in Autumn. If you are not used to the sugar-free version, some honey can be added after slicing. It may be clumsy to slice the lotus root glutinous rice while hot, yet it is not tasty when taken cold. To consume it warm, it is better to slice it when it is not too hot
