#禪的境界

讓自己變得更強大—
有兩個和尚要過一條小河,因為剛好下過雨,河水湍急石子濕滑,和尚二人小心翼翼地正準備渡河時,來了一位頗有幾分姿色的年輕婦女也要過河,婦女行色匆匆,好像有急事要辦,卻因為過不了河而心急如焚。

此時,大師兄主動向年輕婦女說:「小夫人,我可以幫你渡過這條河。」婦人滿心感激的答應了,於是大師兄謹慎地揹起婦人渡過湍急的河水。
在後頭的小師弟,悶聲不響,心裡卻非常不痛快,直想著大師兄怎能破戒呢?平時師父教導我們,不能接近女色,結果大師兄今天卻趁著大夥兒不在的時候,犯了清規?

此後,這位小師弟終日悶悶不樂,對這位大師兄也產生了疑惑。

隔了一年,這個小師弟給悶出了心病,躺在床上無法幹活,大師兄來探望他,問他是什麼事情讓他如此不開心?
小師弟便將一年前的疑惑告訴了師兄:「出家人是不可以親近女色的,為什麼一年前,您卻在小溪邊揹著一個女人過河呢?」
大師兄撓撓腦子想了許久說:「我早給忘了,我揹女人過河,早在過河的同時就已經把她放下了!沒想到師弟你卻把那位姑娘緊緊揹了一年,到現在都還沒放下啊!」
.
當我們的心靈不再負載累累,身心同時就會變得強壯。
因為,捨得與放下,也就意味著自由、意味著我們從此了無牽掛,沒有了牽掛,心中就無所畏懼,自然無堅不摧,變得強大。

也唯有學會放下,我們才會有更多的空間放進好的東西!

[ State Of Meditation ] .
Let Go, Be Broadminded
The rain had stopped but the river water was fast flowing and the stones were slippery. There were two monks intending to cross the river when a pretty young woman came along. She appeared to be in a hurry and was flustered when she could not cross the threatening water.

The elder monk approached her, “Little lady, I can help you cross the river.” The woman accepted his offer with gratitude. The elder monk carefully carried the woman on his back and tread through the rapids of the river.
.
The younger monk maintained his silence as he followed behind unhappily. In his mind, his senior had broken a precept taught by their master that there should not be any physical contact with females. Since that day, the younger monk harbored doubts about his senior whom he felt had acted contrary to the teaching.
.
A year passed and the unhappy young monk fell ill and stayed in bed. The elder monk came to visit him. Finally, the sick monk recounted the previous year’s incident and asked him, “Monks are not allowed physical contact with females. Why did you carry and cross the river with that young woman on your back?”
.
The puzzled elder monk thought for a long time before replying, “I had forgotten about her as soon as we crossed the river. You have been thinking about her for a year and you have not put down those thoughts!”
.
A heart that is not burdened will have a strong body and mind. The willingness to let go of negativities means freedom. When nothing can bother one’s mind, the state of fearlessness will make one resilient and broadminded.
.
How do we learn to let go to allow space to contain the goodness of life?
.
