[ The Aspirations of Avalokitesvara ] .
March 16th is the birthday of the revered Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Great Compassion. This day will be filled with great energy and auspiciousness.

Avalokitesvara fulfills earnest requests for, and bestows happiness upon, those who chant and make offerings with sincerity. It is an important day which all are encouraged to venerate.

When faced with difficulty, or when you are saying a prayer for yourself or for others, make a heartfelt call to Avalokitesvara. 【

#禪師妙問妙答、#湊合的幸福、#生活的伴侶rnrnMeditation Master’s Q&A Series’” — How to handle parental stress to get married?
.
.
Question:
“I’m close to 30, and my parents have repeatedly urged me to get married and settle down. In reality, I’m contented being single, but this difference in perspective has caused a rift between me and my family, resulting in general anxiety for all. I feel the immense pressure, and do not know how to handle it.
.
Master’s response:
When your parent urge you to settle down and get married, you can allay their concerns by explaining, “I’ve yet come across a suitable life-time partner.” In addition, you could reassure them that you would definitely consider settling down if a suitable partner comes along.
.
The Dharma offers a good reference in this instance. We are aware its essence is to liberate sentient beings from sufferings. Applying it to life-long happiness, we can understand that some personalities clash and are not suitable for marriage. These people would invariably encounter bitter disputes with their partners for the rest of their lives should they proceed with marriage. In this way, they would never be happy. For these people, remaining single could be a wiser choice.
.
Nonetheless, I would like to encourage our young friends to learn to seize the happiness, especially when the right opportunity and partner comes along, and get married!
.
Marriage is more than just falling head over heels in love and then have children. It is about genuine companionship, and that is the reason why couples call their spouses, “my better half”, or “my partner”. This helps explain why many arranged marriages in the past could thrive despite the couples not having met or fallen in love before tying the knot.
.
In summary, please remember that your spouse is your life-long companion.
.
Last but not least, may I also encourage our young friends to consider marriage with a deeper and longer perspective, and contemplate marriage with a suitable life-long companion. Not only will your parents’ concerns be resolved, you will also have a fulfilling companionship that ensures you do not get lonely as you grow older.

Unconditional Love
.
Nothing in this world can substitute a parents’ love for their children – not even money or power. A parent’s love is extremely pure, as it comes without any agenda or conditions attached to it. Their only wish is for us to grow up healthy and safe, which is why we should always treat our parents with love and respect. A very effective way to help improve our parents lives is for us to ask Buddha to bless them with good fortune, longevity and good health. Always remember that our beloved parents not only gave us life, but also their unconditional love, infinite compassion and mercy.
.
Our parents are like the Buddha in our lives. Regardless of what needs or wishes we have, our parents are always there to fulfill them. Have you noticed how people who are typically unruly or unreasonable outside their homes, can turn into the gentlest and most loving of parents in front of their children? They are the epitome of the most compassionate Buddha to their children, just like how our parents are to us.
.
All parents love their children without condition and reason. To honor this deep love, we must face our parents with a heart full of gratitude.

參月
.

【Practice Prostration daily for wisdom and a dignified appearance】
.
To buddhists and dharma practitioners, prostration is the most respectable ritual to the Buddha. Besides being a religious rite, what benefits does prostration bring to ordinary people? Based on my own experience in meditation, prostration brings many benefits including improvement in physical, mental and emotional health. The more advanced practitioners can even access the compassionate energy of the Buddha and Heavenly beings, receive their blessings and protection, and may even develop special Dharma power.
.
“The story of healing by a lama”
.
Enclosing the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, Tibet, is a street named Bakuo Street. In Tibetan Buddhism, prostrating in circumambulation of a temple is a form of meditation practice. Along this street of prostration, there was a lama who prostrated daily. His forehead had a bump, the size of half an egg- probably due to prolonged period of prostration and kowtows (knocking the forehead on the ground).
.
One day, a woman carrying a child who was unconscious came to seek assistance. She stopped a lama who passed by and pleaded, “Teacher, please help him. ” The lama shook his head, “I am unable to help.” He stroked the child’s head and said, “I have blessed and wished him well.” However, the child remained unconscious.
.
I pointed to the lama who was prostrating and told the woman, “Seek his help”. She stopped the lama who was prostrating and said, “I plead to you, teacher! My child had been unconscious for several days and doctors could not cure nor find the cause, please help to heal him.”
.
The lama replied, “I don’t know healing, why do you come to me?” I said, “I saw Buddha and Buddha said you are able to heal. Place your hands on the child’s head and try.” So the lama did as told. “What do I do next? ” he asked. “Have you seen the Buddha’s light during prostration?” I asked and he replied yes. I told him, “Send the Buddha’s light to the child.”
.
The lama placed his hand on the child, and after a while, the child miraculously opened his eyes and started crying. The child had been unconscious and silent for several days, but now he was able to open his eyes and cry. The mother was overjoyed with tears. Ever since this incident, the lama could no longer prostrate at the same place. Whenever he appears, he would attract a huge crowd asking for healing.
.
Actually, this lama was a diligent meditation practitioner. Though he had acquired strong energy, he did not know how to make use of it. He was actually not an intelligent person, and also did not do well in his academic and Buddhism studies. Nor was he competent in the Buddhism rituals except prostration. His master had told him, “prostration helps to develop your wisdom, and you would be wiser in the next life. ” In order to be a more intelligent person in his next life, the lama prostrated every day and kow-towed repeatedly. He lost count of the number of times he had prostrated and kow-towed. He would prostrate with every step, rise and continue with the next step of prostration. He would not skip any step, nor take a break till he completed the round. Over a long period of continued practice, he accumulated very strong energy.
.
So even for an ordinary person who is not intelligent at all, as long as he practices prostration diligently and sincerely, he will attain excellent results. We should refrain from high expectations initially, but instead begin with the objective of improving mental and physical health. Meditating in purity and calmness, our body will emanate auspicious energy and our mind will be clear and not confused. We will be able to view problems with broader perspective. With a broader mind, we will attain a clear purpose in life and direction. This will help us overcome ignorance and reduce mistakes in life.
