[Will you marry me? I will make you happy.] Lady bear replied: [ No. I will not marry you. If I marry you, I will give birth to a bear (combination of Chinese character Dog and bear). I want to marry a cat. Then I will give birth to a panda (combination of Chinese character bear and cat) which is more prestigious. ]May all enjoy a good laugh and forget all your troubles.

May all become a better person than you were before.
May lotus flower bloom, luck and auspiciousness be with you as you cross into the New Year.

May Buddha and Bodhisattvas bestow you with auspicious brilliance, may you receive a golden egg and become more prosperous, may all brighten up physically and mentally, enjoy a smooth life in the New Year, be accompanied by auspiciousness and good health . Happy New Year!

You asked me: “Why do people worry constantly?”

I replied: “When you learn to accept the blessings of others and in turn give more blessings to others, your life will start to change.”

漫談_聖誕馴鹿_魯道夫，鼻子為什麼這麼紅？

傳說，聖誕老人的雪橇車馴鹿_魯道夫，有著一只美麗，發著光芒的紅色鼻子，牠誕生於 1939 年羅伯特．梅（Robert L. May）的童話故事裡。
.
有一年「聖誕夜」裡，突然起了大霧，伸手不見五指，聖誕老人坐在雪橇車上發愁，不知道要怎樣去發送禮物，他想:「孩子們都還在等著我為他們送去禮物呢？天一亮，孩子們若沒看見聖誕禮物，一定會非常傷心和失望的。」

當聖誕老人正愁得發慌時，突然看見前方有一盞耀眼的紅色光芒，當光芒漸漸靠近，聖誕老人才看清楚，原來這盞美麗的紅色光芒，是馴鹿_魯道夫的鼻子啊，而「紅光」是最容易穿透霧氣的光，這也是人們的交通燈，喜好使用紅色作為停止信號的一個重要原因。

聖誕老人摸摸馴鹿_魯道夫的鼻子說:「今夜，是孩子們睡得最香甜的一個美麗夜晚，但天有不測風雲，竟然大霧漫天，還好有你這發光的紅鼻子啊。」
於是聖誕老人讓馴鹿_魯道夫，作為12隻馴鹿的總領隊，負責照亮前方的道路，也使12隻馴鹿從此不再迷失了方向，完成每年12月25日這天，重要的一項任務。

在這12月美麗的銀色季節裡，是個充滿愛的日子，聽說最乖的孩子在這個月份裡，向聖誕老人發出願望，夢想都可能會實現!

今天是24節氣中的「冬至」，是一年當中白晝最短的一天，天候也更加寒涼了，大家要注意多保暖，願「冬至」節氣好兆頭，吉祥如暖日子，祝你健康好身子，平平安安一輩子。

The Christmas Reindeer Rudolf – Why does he have a red nose?
.
Legend has it that Santa Claus’ sleigh-pulling reindeer Rudolf has a beautiful and shiny red nose. He was born in 1939, in the pages of the fairy tale penned by Robert L. May.
.
On the eve of Christmas one particular year, the weather turned so foggy that one could hardly see one’s hand stretched out in front of him. Santa sat on his sleigh, worrying about the poor visibility. He thought: “What should I do? The children are still waiting for me and my presents. They will be terribly heartbroken and disappointed if the Christmas presents are not waiting for them when morning arrives.”
.
Just when Santa was getting distressed, he saw a bright red glow moving towards him. It turned out that this beautiful red glow was coming from the nose of Rudolf the reindeer. Red-colored light penetrates fog better than lights of other colors, which is one of the important reasons why our traffic light uses red for Stop.
.
Santa Claus caressed Rudolf’s nose and remarked: “Tonight is a beautiful night, with the children sleeping very soundly. It is really unfortunate that the weather turned foggy out of the blue. Thank goodness for this glowing red nose of yours.”
.
Hence, Santa assigned Rudolf to be the leader of the pack of 12 reindeers, being responsible for illuminating the way ahead. Ever since then, the pack has never lost its way and can always complete their important task on December 25th year after year.
.
This beautiful silvery season in December is a season of love; a time when children are most obediently making their wishes to Santa, hoping their wishes would come true!
.
Today is 「Winter Solstice」of the 24 solar terms which is also the shortest day of the year. The weather is even colder. We must be mindful to keep warm. May the 「Winter Solstice」 brings good luck and good healthy throughout your life.

【如何學會歡喜接受】

所謂:「良藥苦口利於病，忠言逆耳利於行」。
.
「人」都喜歡聽好聽的話，吃好吃的東西，一但聽到有人說你的不是或缺點，就會火冒三丈，恨不得把對方給狠揍一頓，所以大家見了你，只好說說客套話，好聽的話，恭維你一番。因此，人們就再也聽不到真實的話語了。當你看不見自己，究竟會給自己帶來什麼結果呢，我來給大家說個真實的故事吧！
.
戰國時代有個有名的神醫，叫 扁鵲。
有一天，扁鵲去見蔡桓公，說：「王啊，您的皮膚有點小毛病，求桓公讓我給您醫治吧。」
桓侯不悅的說：「我沒有病，你請回吧。」
扁鵲走後，桓公說：「大夫(醫生)總是喜歡給沒病的人治病，以此做為自己的功勞！」
.
過了十天，扁鵲對桓公說：「您的病已經到了肌肉裡，不醫治的話，會更加嚴重下去。」桓公一樣不予理睬。再過了十天，扁鵲見桓公，仍警告地說：「您的病已經到了腸胃，王怎麼就是不信呢？」說完扁鵲嘆口氣踱步離去，桓公還是不理。
.
再過了十天，扁鵲遠遠望見桓公，竟突然拔腿就跑。
扁鵲說：「現在桓公的病已深入骨髓裡，我也無能為力了，為了避免被殺頭我只好逃跑。」
沒多久，桓公果真開始渾身疼痛，派人去尋扁鵲，卻已遍尋不著，扁鵲已經逃到秦國去了。
桓公因為病入膏肓，也就死去了。
.
所以，我們對待逆耳的、打擊的話語和行為，要學會歡喜接受、更需要正向思考。好多逆耳的話，對我們本身就是一種幫助，學習勇敢面對問題，才有機會解決問題。
.

（Learn to accept graciously and happily)
.
As a popular Chinese saying goes: (A bitter medicine cures the disease. Honest advices may be unpleasant for the ears but they are beneficial to our general well-being.)
.
Humans love to listen to nice words and eat tasty food. The moment they hear honest opinions about their flaws, they get angry and may even have the urge to beat the other person up. As a result when people see you, they will only say pleasantries and words that flatter you. You will no longer be able to hear sincere and honest words. When you cannot see yourself clearly, what will be the outcome? Let me share a story!
.
During warring states period, there was a highly skilled doctor. His name was Bianque.
One day, Bianque went to see Cai Huangong and said: “Your majesty, you have some minor skin diseases, please allow me to treat you.”
Huangong said in displeasure: “I am not ill, please leave.”
After Bianque left, Huangong said to himself: “Doctors like to treat people who are not ill so as to gain credits for themselves!”
.
After ten days, Bianque told Huangong: “Your illness had spread to your muscles. If you do not seek for treatment, it will get worse.”
Again, Huangong ignored Bianque’s words. After another ten days, Bianque continued to warn Huangong when he saw him: “Your illness had spread to your stomach, why do you not trust me, your Majesty?” With these words, Bianque sighed and walked away. Huangong continued to remain indifferent to Bianque’s words.
.
Ten days later, the moment Bianque spotted Huangong from a distance, he immediately started running. Bianque said: “Huangong’s illness had spread to his bone marrow, there is nothing I can do to cure him now. To avoid being beheaded, I can only flee.”
.
Not long after, Huangong started to feel aching in his whole body. He sent his guards to look for Bianque but failed to locate hm. Bianque had run to neighboring Qin country to hide. As Huangong was beyond cure, he eventually passed on.
.
Hence when we hear words that are unpleasant to our ears, we must learn to accept graciously and contemplate whether there is truth in them. Sincere, honest advices are beneficial to us and we must learn to face our problems bravely. Only then would we be able to resolve them.
.
Today let us discuss in Guide to Meditation- Part 3 how we can learn to accept happily and graciously. Only then would we be able to rectify and correct our problems. We will only gain happiness when we are compassionate and brings happiness to people around us.
.

多少年輕夫妻，想要擁有一個孩子，卻怎樣就是懷不上，因為生活壓力和過度緊張，造成的不孕症，儼然已經成了這個世代的文明症！那麼有沒有辦法可能順利懷上孩子，完成想要傳宗接代的心願呢？

佛前點燈得好孕

我是來自舊金山_白蓮禪堂的_容棠
我兒子很優秀，從哈佛醫學院第一名畢業，大學還沒有畢業就在醫院裡做醫生，同時也很順利地結了婚，媳婦很能幹，所以我從不擔心他們，但是他們卻遲遲沒有小孩，我也不敢問。
.
有一天兒媳突然對著我一直哭，我覺得很奇怪！什麼事情是他們兩位不能解決的呢？我關心的問，才知道是因為醫生檢查出來，我媳婦的卵子太老又很少，加上宮寒的問題，幾乎不太能受孕。
.
說來很好笑，我兒子是全世界200 名以內的名醫生，他接生了無數個嬰兒，幫過很多人生了小孩，雖然夫妻感情非常好，可是就是沒有小孩，他們也嘗試過去買卵子做試管嬰兒，價錢非常高，從1萬美金到5萬美金不等，付出這麼高的價錢，卻還是不保證能成功受孕，他們嘗試了好幾次試管嬰兒，結果不是失敗，就是中途流產，可能是因為子宮太冷了，宮寒不孕。
.
去年感恩節，醫生告訴他們這是最後一顆卵子，如果這次再不成功，就必需用別人的卵子或別人的子宮了， 這對女性來說也是非常痛苦的一件事，我就勸媳婦：不要再這麼痛苦了，沒有小孩也沒關係。
.
去年的十二月份，就是將最後一顆卵子放入身體裡，後來我想：「兒子能幹，從不需要我操心，我也不知能為兒子做些什麼，我看我這次就為他們在佛前點個燈吧！
.
他們聖誕節來看我，聖誕節的禮物是，「我送給他們一盞燈」，在從洛杉磯來的前一天，我點了49天的燈，而且是專心點給我的媳婦及她肚子裡那顆卵子的。我本來也是抱著試試看的心情 ，沒想到最後一顆卵子「成功受孕了」！兒媳成功懷孕，今年孫子也順利生出來了，寶寶健康、可愛，相貌非常端莊，還很聰明呢！因此，佛前供燈不可思議,，能化腐朽為神奇，非常的感恩菩提禪修，感恩藥師佛陀，感恩送子觀音，為我和我的兒女找回希望。

Fertility Blessings by the Guanyin Bodhisattva _ how can we seek a smooth pregnancy?

There are many young couples who want to conceive, but are infertile due to societal pressures and high tension. This has become a typical “disease” of recent civilization! Thus, is there a way to ensure a smooth pregnancy, so as to fulfill the aspirations to carry on the family line?
.
The answer of course, is “yes.”
Let’s hear this true story!

Offering light before the Buddha for smooth pregnancy
.
I am Rong Tang from the Bailian Bodhi Meditation Center in Milpitas, U.S.
My son is distinguished; a top graduate from the Harvard Medical College who had started practicing at the hospital even before his graduation. At the same time, his marriage had been plain sailing, and my daughter-in-law is very capable, so I never had to worry about them. Yet, they remained childless, a question that I was hesitant to ask.
.
One day, my daughter-in-law suddenly came crying to me. I was most puzzled! What was it that the couple cannot solve? Concerned, I asked her and realized that the doctor’s report had indicated that my daughter-in-law had eggs that were aged and few. In combination with the poor womb condition, conception was nearly impossible.
.
Ironically, my son has a strong standing within the top-200 eminent doctors in the world. He had helped to deliver countless babies, and enabled many to have children, yet despite the strong relationship, the couple had no children. They had tried to buy donor eggs to conduct in-vitro fertilization (IVF) at a very high price, ranging from USD10,000 – 50,000, but this was without guarantee of success. They tried IVF several times, ending in failure or had to abort mid-way, as the weak uterus was not in the condition to conceive.
.
During Thanksgiving last year, the doctor advised that it was the last egg. If it was not successful, it would be necessary to use another donor’s eggs or womb – an option that was considered most distressing to my daughter-in-law. I had advised my daughter-in-law, “.. don’t dwell in the sorrow, it does not matter if you have no children.”
.
During that December, as the last egg was incepted, a thought came to mind, “My son has been capable, and never caused me any worry. I do not know what I can do for him. Let me offer a light before the Buddha on their behalf!”
.
Subsequently, they came to visit me during Christmas and my gift was the “light offering” – the day before I traveled from Los Angeles, I had made a light offering of 49 days on behalf of my daughter-in-law and the egg in her womb. I had adopted a “trying” mentality and did not expect the last egg to lead to successful conception! My daughter-in-law had a successful pregnancy, and my grandchild was smoothly delivered this year with good health, lovely character, dignified appearance, and good wits! Therefore, offering light to the Buddha is inconceivable; it can be alchemic. I’m immensely grateful to Bodhi Meditation, the Medicine Buddha, and the Fertility Blessing Guanyin Bodhisattva for fulfilling the wishes of my children.

The Universal Gate Sutra of the Guanyin Bodhisattva says, “If a woman, desires to seek a male companion, (and) worships and venerates the Guanyin Bodhisattva, (she) secures a man of merit and intelligence; if a male seeking a female companion (does the same), he secures a female of dignified good looks, of good character and virtues, and is well-loved and respected.”

「臥牛禪師_十」

一位公司總經理愁眉不展的問臥牛禪師：
“我怎樣才能擁有整個公司的資產？”
.
臥牛禪師：“現在的公司不是你的嗎？”
總 經 理：“是我老闆的。”
.
臥牛禪師：“你的待遇如何？”
總 經 理：“還行。年薪三十多萬吧。”
.
臥牛禪師：“據我知道你公司的員工平均年薪是兩萬元。你的老闆已經很好了。你為什麼還想吞下你老闆的公司呢？”
.
總 經 理：“和員工比，我的收入確實很高。但是和老闆比呢，我非常自卑。因此，一年前，我便有了一個夢想：我也要做真正的老闆。可是自己創業太困難了，所以我就想借用，將我們這間公司拿到自己手中。”
.
臥牛禪師：“你不覺得你缺少點什麼嗎？”
總 經 理：“什麼啊？”
.
臥牛禪師：“一點良心。真是人心不足蛇吞象啊。”
.

Zen Master Cow Ten
.
One company’s general manager asked Zen Master Cow with a frown: “How can I swallow the assets of my company?”
Zen Master Cow: “Isn’t the company yours now?”
General manager: “Nope. It belongs to my boss.”
Zen Master Cow: “How did your boss treat you?”
General manager: “Still acceptable. My annual salary is three hundred thousand.”
Zen Master Cow: “According to my sources, the average remuneration for your company’s staff is two hundred thousand. Your boss already paid you better than average. Why do you still want to swallow your boss’s company?”
General manager: “ Compared to normal staff, my salary is indeed higher. However comparatively to my boss, I am still more inferior. Hence starting from last year, I had a dream: I want to become a boss. But it is very difficult to build up an enterprise from scratch hence I want to use some ploys to swallow this company.”
Zen Master Cow: “ Don’t you think you lack something?”
General manager: “What?”

一位公司總經理愁眉不展的問臥牛禪師：
“我怎樣才能擁有整個公司的資產？”

臥牛禪師：“現在的公司不是你的嗎？”
總 經 理：“是我老闆的。”

臥牛禪師：“你的待遇如何？”
總 經 理：“還行。年薪三十多萬吧。”
.
臥牛禪師：“據我知道你公司的員工平均年薪是兩萬元。你的老闆已經很好了。你為什麼還想吞下你老闆的公司呢？”
.
總 經 理：“和員工比，我的收入確實很高。但是和老闆比呢，我非常自卑。因此，一年前，我便有了一個夢想：我也要做真正的老闆。可是自己創業太困難了，所以我就想借用，將我們這間公司拿到自己手中。”

臥牛禪師：“你不覺得你缺少點什麼嗎？”
總 經 理：“什麼啊？”

臥牛禪師：“一點良心。真是人心不足蛇吞象啊。”

One company’s general manager asked Zen Master Cow with a frown: “How can I swallow the assets of my company?”
Zen Master Cow: “Isn’t the company yours now?”
General manager: “Nope. It belongs to my boss.”
Zen Master Cow: “How did your boss treat you?”
General manager: “Still acceptable. My annual salary is three hundred thousand.”
Zen Master Cow: “According to my sources, the average remuneration for your company’s staff is two hundred thousand. Your boss already paid you better than average. Why do you still want to swallow your boss’s company?”
General manager: “ Compared to normal staff, my salary is indeed higher. However comparatively to my boss, I am still more inferior. Hence starting from last year, I had a dream: I want to become a boss. But it is very difficult to build up an enterprise from scratch hence I want to use some ploys to swallow this company.”
Zen Master Cow: “ Don’t you think you lack something?”
General manager: “What?”
Zen Master Cow: “Conscience. A man who is never content is like a snake trying to swallow an elephant.”

傳說，擁有一頭漂亮金髮的老婆婆，有兩只非常可愛而美麗的大耳朵，它是用來聆聽孩子們的願望。他的工作是，為全世界的孩子們圓滿願望，並且送去禮物，他的願望是：「看見全世界的孩子們，燦爛、天真的笑容，並且幸福的沈睡夢鄉。」

而大小孩子們都喜愛的「聖誕老人」願望是怎麼來的呢？
在數千年前的_斯堪納維亞島中，一個風雪交加的聖誕夜裡，有一對饑寒交迫的小男孩，因為大雪覆蓋天地好幾個月了，家家戶戶緊鎖門戶，糧食更顯得珍貴，他一路走一路敲門，卻不見善心的人家願意給他一口飯吃，當他覺得自己將要被凍死的時候，突然面前出現了一個大耳婆婆，接待他吃了一頓豐盛的聖誕晚餐，還貼心的為小男孩準備溫暖的寢具，隔日大雪竟奇蹟似的停了。

臨走前，大耳婆婆特別折了一根杉樹枝送給他，並叮囑說：「你找個肥沃的土地將它種下吧，並且細心地呵護它，他將會長成一顆非常美麗的小樹，年年此日，將會禮物滿枝，但是你必須繼續完成我的願望，為所有跟你一樣，需要幫助的孩子們送去溫暖，為他們圓滿願望。」

原來那位大耳婆婆，是千手千眼_觀世音菩薩的化身，而那個小男孩，就是現在的聖誕老公公。
.
後來許多受到大耳婆婆幫助的孩子們長大了，他們也都立志要成為聖誕老人的化身，聖誕節的溫暖氛圍從此流傳下來，千古不衰，甚至化身成千千萬萬的聖誕老人！
.
因此，每年的12月，聖誕老人都會灑下漫天的雪花與祝福 ，並且送出禮物 ?給孩子們，從此許多孩子們再也不受飢凍所苦了。
因為，這就是佛的願望。。。

Warmth in snowy white season- Big ear granny

According to legend, there was a granny with beautiful golden hair. She had a pair of attractive big ears to listen to the wishes of children from all over the world.

Her job was to fulfil the dreams and wishes of children by sending them presents. Her wish: (to see radiant and happy smiles on the innocent faces of all children and ensure they go to bed with pleasant dreams.)

How does the wish of Santa Claus (children’s all-time favourite character) come about?
.
Few thousand years ago at an island of Scandinavia, on a snowy and windy Christmas night , there was a little boy who was feeling very hungry and cold. Due to a few months of heavy snow, every household locked their houses and windows tightly to keep out the cold and food was precious and rare. As the boy walked on the street, he knocked on each door, hoping that some kind soul would offer him warm food. However, no one offered him and he continued to remain hungry. Just when he was about to freeze to death, a granny with big ears appeared in front of him. The granny offered him a sumptuous Christmas dinner and thoughtfully prepared a warm mattress and blanket for the night. On the very next day, the snow miraculously stopped.

Before the boy left, big ear granny gave him a redwood branch and instructed him: “Find a fertile land to grow this redwood branch. Look after it well and it will grow into a beautiful tree. On this day of every year, the tree will be filled with presents. However, I have one condition: you must help to fulfil my dream by giving out warmth and hope to children like yourself and others who needed help, make their wishes come true.”

Apparently the big ear granny was the incarnation of Thousand Hands Thousand Eyes Guanyin Bodhisattva and the little boy was Santa Claus.

Subsequently, children who received help from big ear granny grew up and aspired to be incarnation of Santa Claus. From then on, this heart-warming tradition of Christmas passed down over generations and manifest in the form of thousands and millions of Santa Claus!
.
Since then, on the December of every year, Santa Claus would sprinkle glittering brilliance and wishes to fill the entire sky and send out presents to children. Thanks to Santa Claus, children no longer suffer from hunger and bitter cold. All this is possible because it is the wish of Buddha….
.
