Putting on the Magical Cap
In regards to magic, we all heard about Harry Potter,
In regards to Bodhi, she found a magical cap.
Is it really magical? Continue reading to find out…

Here’s where the magic starts…
I registered my daughter for a summer tennis camp, and it seems to be a mistake right from the very beginning…
When I asked my daughter if she wanted to learn tennis, she gave me a blank look and asked “what ‘s that?”. Recalling my fond memories of playing tennis during my high school days, I replied: “It’s a fun sport! Why don’t you pick it up and play with me?” and look forward to enjoying the game with her in the near future.
So, on the first day of the training, she came back moody.
“Mom, why did you make me learn tennis? I can’t even hit the ball!” she cried.
“It’s ok, that is normal since you’re still in the beginners’ class” I replied
“But everyone except me played well! I’m not happy.” my daughter continued to complain
Then I realized that though the summer tennis camp was meant for beginners, the participants were mainly those working their way to get into the High School team. Hence, the standards were much higher than beginners level.
So I apologetically told her, “ Well, since we’ve paid the fees, why don’t you just learn the basics and not compare yourself with the rest of the participants.”
In the subsequent days of training, my daughter would return home with lots of complaints and grievances.
“Tennis is not for me.”
“I hate to have to pick the balls all the times.”
“Sigh, I think the coach has given up on me”
“I’m done, and hopeless”
Sigh…
Today, as I was sending my daughter to the tennis training, I was thinking of giving her additional training in the evening to help her pick up and gain confidence. Suddenly she shouted out at the back of the car, “where‘s my tennis cap?”
Have she forgotten to bring her cap? Luckily I left two Bodhi caps in the car after attending an outdoor meditation activity yesterday.
“Why don’t you take my Bodhi cap? They are light and made of good material to help block the sun rays.” I suggested.
As my daughter was hesitating, I added, “Take it. These Bodhi cap has special magical powers!”
Unwillingly, she took the Bodhi cap, and I prayed silently, “Master, please protect my daughter with a smooth tennis training lesson…”
Surprisingly, when I pick her up after the training class, she was proud and joyful. She exclaimed: “Mom, is your Bodhi cap a magical cap? I put it on and played well today! Tennis is not that difficult after all!”
Alleluia, it is indeed a magical Bodhi Cap!
Thank you Master, thank you Buddha.
